Looking to try my luck in the coming Hulkageddon but I'm a raw noob to the Fine Art Of Suicide Ganking. Is there some guide available out there that might help me out? I've heard that destroyers are good for that, but what is the weapon of choice... Smartbombs, or..? Can smartbombs be linked together like guns/lasers to initiate a huge alpha? If not it seems like if I fit a bunch on I'd not have the chance to fire them all off before I get Concorded. I'm clueless about all this.

You either use arties(Any size, really. Most use large arties + a BS for Hulks) or Smartbombs(Only works with the large variety). Some people use Catalysts with blasters though. /shrug

A destroyer with smartbombs isn't going to do much but catch a pod. The best destroyer for the job is an artillery thrasher but you want to team up with a couple of people if you want to gank hulks. There's already plenty of guides on how to do this if you search around.
For solo ganking hulks and mackinaws you want a high alpha battlecruiser or battleship (pest or apoc work best for this).
Generally, the only time you want to use smartbombs is on a battleship. Typhoons are the most commonly used ship for this purpose but anything that can fit a full rack of smarties works ok. ~~~

I explained some of this to some folks "elsewhere" a while ago so I'll put some info here.
Don't think DPS. Don't think Alpha. Think volleys until concord.
You only have about 12-16 seconds until concord shows and shuts down your act. As such, the timing of the volleys will make a huge difference in how well or how poorly a gun performs for this task.
The alpha from a thrasher is tops but you'll only 1-2 volleys and concord is there.
The cycle time on blasters is fairly quick with good damage. It's not too hard to pull out over 3500 damage to a target by a Catalyst using blasters. That is rather tricky to pull off with a Thrasher using artillery.
Also, the shorter the time, the less the size of the blaster will make a difference. Electrons and Ions can be equally effective to Neutrons at certain seconds along that time-line.
Check it out a bit on "volley" based damage vs alpha and you'll see why it works.

That is all that matters in suicidal runs. The higher the alpha the better. SCHALAC HAS SPOKEN |

For 1.0 sec, yes. For 0.5-0.7 sec, a 1k dps overheated blaster Brutix will give you more bang for the buck than anything else, and is ideally suited for ganking stationary miners.

If you are quick with a high alpha you can gank a few in .5 space. Specially if they are stationary. SCHALAC HAS SPOKEN |

Edited by: oldmanst4r on 03/02/2011 03:58:02 Here's what I've found from my own experience.
0.8-1.0 You really want alpha. Groups of Artillery thrashers or a Battleship with a full rack of 1400mms is the way to go.
0.5-0.7
In groups: Groups of thrashers or groups of catalysts are the way to go. You can also take out large quantities of hulks with a group of three smartbombing battleships.
Solo: You can still go for the classic BS alpha strike suicide gank. However, the cheapest way is the blaster brutix. Just fill up on Blasters in the highs and magstabs in the lows. Don't forget drones as well.
