Wait 30 seconds or so for a live one to get back to you.
I live really close to the cluster so I get all dramatic if it so much as sneezes.

Thats all i see for a few hours now. Cant even think you guys dont have a backup for this, if you dont have, fire the guys who are in charge of your network, really. There is only one excuse for not having the server up: all of Iceland is afected. |

Apparently the packets logged off at a bubbled POS just before downtime. This would explain how they we're lost I think |

Anyone using wine?
My wine is crashing about 20-30 secs after opening EVE. I have tried many many things at this point (driver, reinstall of wine, ect...).
Is it possible the eve clients' issues are what is causing the wine program to crash? I tried just sitting at log-in screen, crash. Character selection, crash. Seems to be based on the time it is open.
Any help is most appreciated!

I have the exact same problem. Fairly certain it is related to the network issue described here, as I have not made any changes to my Linux installation including wine and EVE during the day, and it worked just fine earlier. |

Edited by: 2259 on 01/02/2011 22:33:51 CCP can you explain how it is that you have only *one* peering provider for your production network? You should have multiples, two bare minimum. If you do have multiples, then why haven't you mitigated impact by turning down BGP or OSPF (or if no routing protocols are used, physical link) with said provider and use the alternate?
A game and infrastructure of this size should not have a SPOF, especially when it comes to network peering providers.
EDIT: And why does Tranquility have to be rebooted/restarted as a result of a network provider having problems/packet loss? This equates to: "my ISP is broken, I better reboot my laptop". Sorry, the information here doesn't add up.

Don't worry. Its what Wine does. I have the Mac client which is built on Wine. When the client can't connect either due to your connection or theirs, the client just closes. It doesn't crash.
Oh...and the Interwebs are sad today....

It is directly related. Running the logserver.exe application, eve crashes with timeouts to "motd" and other exceptions.
Always ALWAYS check the forums for info (here in general or the linux section) before thinking you borked something...especially if you have made no changes and no eve "patches". Almost always its going to be some sort of network issue causing 'splosians.

Yes, network timeout exceptions cause crashes in wine and with these network issues even attempting to retrieve the banner ad send us wine users to hell
In case a dev is reading this, offending code is at:
Quote:
/../carbon/common/stdlib/urllib2.py(1148) do_open err = timeout('timed out',)
The way that exception is thrown is causing wine to crash.

Well I don't get why my client said it was corrupted I ran repair.exe about 5 times and it 'fixes' my client to a pre-client patch state, now I'm being asked to use the 'optional' client patch again. So unless there was a 2nd 'optional' client patch the game didn't like it or repair.exe was still being told to use the 'old' client.

i'm still getting status: unknown...
as far as i can tell, everything else web-related is working at my end... any chance this could be an issue with sluggish DNS server updates? |
