For all of you that are interested in DotA like games. Leage of Legends is free to play and if you want to test it out, you can creat an account by following this link:

Tried it when it came out. IMO way WAY too cartoony and geared towards a much younger audience than EVE. I was working in a LAN back then and i've never seen anyone over 18 playing it. The entire thing is made in flash ffs. Also, their business model favors players with a handy credit card and free players are somewhat at a disadvantage.
Also, i see what what you did there with the ref link.

LoL is a great way to waste time in a somewhat meaningless manner..
Also, you really should drop the referral link, mods dont like those.
As for the game preferring people with a credit card - its no different than eve. If you can pour real life money into the game, you will have more toys. That doesnt mean you can use them any better. Nothing that actually impacts the game can only be purchased with rl money, and the only thing real life money buys that game currency doesnt is skins for your champions, which only ever change aesthetics(and in some cases an anmiation or two)

If you really want a tower defense game, there's enough towers to defend in EVE if you join an alliance :>

Heroes of Newerth is a much better, and far more skill orientated game. Only reason LoL does well is because it's free. ---

You have no idea what you're talking about.
This is the one free game I've seen where paying money offers no ingame advantage and thats exactly why its the only free game thats every seen money from me. $35 to be exact and its been worth every penny. This is a fantastic game, and its a lot of fun when you play with people you know.

I wouldn't say HON is "better". It's just designed with a different style of play in mind. I like both - LOL is much more relaxed and forgiving, ideal for when you just want to relax. HON on the other hand is much harsher and tense, but a much better competitive game.

no armada online love? It's not really like DOTA but it has item shops and item combo just like DOTA does. Plus I love the way you fight over the bases. plus it's DOTA in space, you should all get over there and play!

I wouldn't doubt the player age on average is pretty low, but it doesn't lack its finesse because of it, it just happens mainly because the art design seems to be attractive to those types (and the fact it's free). A few corrections though should be in order:
The only part of the game that utilizes flash is the game community browser or frontend of the game I should say. It is only used to start or join an existing game as well as a couple of misc. functions, but when game starts it is minimized and the game runs off of its own engine (not sure what engine, prolly proprietary).
Also, the items only available via money are skins (and even then community has their own player-made skins for free). Free characters are rotated each week, and any character you wish to keep you can pay with points gathered by playing games (winning obviously gives more). Runes are items which give minor improvements and yet still can be purchased with ingame points. The only problem I see here is a person with cash to spend starts playing the game and spends money to get the runes early on to give him an advantage over those with low levels who do not enough points to spend on getting runes. This is quickly leveled out once people start buying them with ingame money, however. They are pretty cheap and a couple wins will score you enough for one or more no prob.
I have to admit I like the idea of HoN, and would love to try it once I am willing to spend money on it. However for now, LoL is a pretty well-polished game for being free-to-play, and does well at accomplishing its goal. Definitely accomplished soaking up hours of my time. Level 28 and haven't spent a red cent on the game. |

I'm not sure why you believe HoN is a more "skill orientated game"; I've played both and they each have their merits.
Unfortunately the HoN community is a little dismissive of LoL which is unwarranted and smacks of simple tribalism.
I'm not going to argue for one or the other, however it is worth noting LoL has done a better job of attracting new players to the DoTA genre which has helped its rapid growth in addition to it being free.
I'd recommend them both to anyone who hasn't tried them.

With a more hostile player base though. Though it shouldn't be much of a problem if you play EVE.

I play LoL a lot. It's a really fun game. I haven't tried HoN yet, but I've been meaning to. LoL is easy to get in to, but there's a little learning curve and people are not really forgiving.

Adding my support for armada online. 2 guys making a video games mean updates come slow and spread out, but I go back to play every once an a while. Fun times.
Specialy the new map which is like 10vComputer DOTA creeps. You got to stop an increasing number of creep while holding the bases in the mid that power up your defenses.

HoN have even less forgiving people, even in the 50 RANKLESS training matches there are people screaming at you, however none of those "dota-like" games ever had a patient player base, most of them make even the CS community sound nice...
however, i am a LoL player myself, as i normally play with a team of friends, my only complain is the unstable EU servers... ____________________

James have you checked out the new planet side missions? it's pretty awesome, you can explore in a top down asteroids style combat to get exp and items for crafting. It's really cool you can even customize your shuttle!
