Reports suggests there is / was some internal bleeding being sorted out via surgery..
also another note, when surgeon was asked whether need to amplutate Kubica's hand, he simpley said we cannot say at this stage..
Also a correction to the OP, it was not believed to be on the way to the stage but aprox 3.5km into a stage

Real shame for a future World Champion. I worry about his future in the sport.

No worries there was many stories and rumours about it, so was hard to know what was really going on tbh
Latest: Kubica will need ATLEAST a year to recover to possible race fitness, of course depending if his hand heals..

latest..
The 26-year-old underwent seven hours of surgery on Sunday as doctors operated on his right hand which was partially severed by a metal railing following a crash into a church during a rally in Italy.
His recovery so far has been described as "encouraging" but is set to remain in hospital for two to three weeks.
"On Thursday, Robert should undergo some more surgery in order to stabilise the fractures to his right shoulder and right foot," the latest Renault update said.
"Three or four days later, another operation will allow his elbow fracture to be stabilised as well."
The team added that everyone is happy with his progress.
"According to the doctors, the levels of inflammation are in the norm considering his medical condition, and the recovery of his forearm remains encouraging.
"Yesterday, Robert was able to talk to his doctors and relatives. His medication makes him sleep quite a lot, but he is responding to all external stimulation," the team added.
"He has reacted well to the news about his condition and is ready to fight for his comeback."
