Hi, this my new portrait BTW (I like it, its happy compared to the old one) *blushes* but It just occured to my while doing the new me... sometimes the character creators slows down a lot and It got me thinking... how would this work with everyone in walking in station? Performance... So when we finally get to walk in stations soon, will we able to use our avatars , or will we have to make new ones?

With Shaders on Low in display options it has good performance even on my old system. I edit bone structure and all that on low and only turn it to high for the final touches. So i think many people will just have to run it that way, it dosen't look nearly as good but hey at least you can take part.

Yes, avatars will be used to walk in stations. And EVE is 7 years old, and been upgraded several times.
Sometimes we, the players, have to make hardware upgrades to keep up. Part of being a PC gamer. ----------------------------- Welcome to EVE. Ship happens. |

It shouldn't be too big a problem. Most people can probably just lower the settings and be fine, though I'm sure Incarna will use pretty strict LoD (Level of Detail) settings, so that people a few meters away from where you're looking will be less detailed until you get up close, thus lowering the stress on the GPU and your system in general.
I'm sure if it was going to be a big issue, CCP would have dumped Incarna long ago.

I was running some performance tests on it last week. It was fairly good, even when I tried it on my old NX9420 laptop.
So yeah, depending on the spec of your system it could be pretty good! As I understand they use a different, slightly less detailed rendering engine for the walking in stations part.
I'd say performance on the various machines I tried it with was about on-par with Project Entropia, which is actually a bit richer for that type of thing.

really? because it looks like you're constipated.
I'm still struggling to understand how "walking in stations" will help an internetspaceshipgame.
I mean, I don't not play grantourismo because I can't walk around my garage... it's a racing game... I expect to race ¼¼

The answer is - read what CCP says about Eve. They tend to see it as a space opera simulation rather than the internet space ship game it is now.

I don't think anyone in their right minds can call eve a spaceship game only. I mean there is so much stuff that one can do WITHOUT flying a ship. Eve is a opera, so it should be thought like one too. I also don't think "incarna" will have such a big effect on performance because it's handled differently. Just because you are walking around in Jita doesn't mean the guy in Amarr will have issues with anything. Even Jita will probably work fine because trading and walking are on different nodes.
The question is if the node dedicated to Jitas "walkabout" can handle it. If than one crashes it doesn't mean jitas trading will (different node). Other than that you can just think any normal fps game and think how many people you can have there. Walking in station will be far less computer hungry than normal fps-games. No guns, no physics related to shooting etc. Basically there will probably be the environment and players that is done by the node. Of course there will probably be more to it than just walking around, but probably not much. I doubt you can see the actual ships docking and undocking from some window.
Also when you think about the amounts of players on each station...it's not really that many. Tradehubs and mission centers will have the most of players, but I don't think any of them will have more than 500 players walking around at the same time. With bigger players amounts they can probably control the nodes quite well due to them being "hubs". You really think 1000+ players will accidentally pop up at some "middle of nowhere" station? Why? Specially when CCP has said that smuggle will be a big part of incarna. My guess is illegal stations working as walking stations.

and yet I'm still flaccid over the whole affair.
The "Opera" comes from the drama, the drama in eve comes from the conflicts, the conflics come from the space people hold, which comes from the pvp, which comes from the internet spaceships.
It's almost like the pvpinternetspaceshiphappytimes is the core of the universe. Argue away from that statement if you like but all roads lead to roam, maybe they should be focusing on that rather than beta testing WoD.
