I played for exactly 1 month. It was a buggy pile of crap with a market that was completely out of control. In less than a week I had made enough money to buy every ship in the game 10 times over along with the best upgrades.
Yee.. er.. haw?
They tried.. but the game wasn't ready. It should have been better. ---

You only get the 30 days free if you get a GTC too, or enter your Credit card data to subscribe then cancel. But then Cryptic has your data.
Yeah, the game was rushed, had practically no endgame and one levels up in a flash. Devs are dedicated though, and with the Foundry(player created missions) in beta I have high hopes. Space combat is much more fun than EVE, the ground combat is broken though. When they fix this up next, it¦ll be worth another shot. Right now it isn¦t, maybe end of this year.. ______________ Mal-¦Appears we got here just in a nick of time. What does that make us?¦ Zoe-`Big damn heroes, sir.` Mal-¦Aint we just.¦ |

I found the space combat to be rather crappy. just spin around to show em your good side or if you were an escort just charge in with all weapons blazing. Although it is kinda fun to know that my Apoc gets over 8 times the range of STO weapons and fires almost 3 times further than they can even see while being faster
But yea, finished the whole game in beta, then again 2 weeks after launch. Game sucks balls.

Edited by: dr cisco on 11/02/2011 01:53:42 i liked the whole movement part of the fight in STO, getting in range and making sure your strongest side was facing the enemy. but that does not change the fact that it felt too much like wow in space.

I played the beta up until launch and then bought the game after launch just because it seemed a nice time waster based in the trek universe. Beta was better. Waaay better.

In beta and till around july, you could only autofire two weapons max. one fore and one aft.
so if you flew a cruiser with eight phaser arrays, you still had to SPACEBAR SPACEBAR SPACEBAR SPACEBAR. my thumb did not approve.

Yep, after about 4 hours of EVE I was totally hooked too because I learned EVERYTHING there was in the game.
Though honestly, the current STO Demo sucks Major Balls. Was so pi$$ed off at downloading 8 gigs of data to only play for about 15mins to half an hour tops.
If you¦re not a Trekkie and don¦t get one of the rare 10 day keys, give this one a pass until they finally revamp the demo too.
As for the space-spammers, I already had this discussion.

Seriously? Well then I must be the luckiest son-of-a-bastich around, because when I tried the game you could autofire everything and the kitchen sink.
BTW if all you OZOM beta Vets get hung up about the fricken phasers then somebody forgot to tell you about the bridge officer powers. Which are the actual tactical part of the game.
Constant Phaser spamming is the part you mostly do in the lower levels, as your BOs aren¦t advanced enough to really make a difference. ______________ Mal-¦Appears we got here just in a nick of time. What does that make us?¦ Zoe-`Big damn heroes, sir.` Mal-¦Aint we just.¦ |

No. I can't say I care.
That said, I care about the environment, the planet, the people if you were in a position to procreate. Then it would turn into a bug hunt. |

It's a casual amusment park IP. If you're not into that kinda of game you won't like it.
Things they added in the last year for those who may like casual amusment park IP game:
1. "Weekly" mission series (imo the best thing they added, they're on their 3rd set of 5 missions/set now). 2. set items (think Diablo2 sets) 3. skill balance changes (a constant for any mmo) 4. missions for kdf 5. new crafting system 6. stfs (ie raids) 7. mission you can fail at 8. PvE difficulty slider where characters/ships can sustain injuries (try ground on elite if you think the PvE is easy) 9. new ships 10. Foundry (tool for players to create linear flow missions) 11. Non combat missions introducted (still meh, but better)
PvP is still meh, but it does require more micro (not saying skill per se) in a fun way than Eve, but fights are generally at a much smaller scale and have no impact on game events. |

Edited by: REiiGN15 on 12/02/2011 03:46:50 STO was the first MMO I played. For a month. OP is right, one month and done. Even more hilarious, when they brought out "episodes"...yeah, it was an episode...about one hour of new missions. Ground combat was a joke. PvP? Boring as hell, with the klingons being cloaked the whole time and federation mining it up.
EVE Online is the second MMO I played...I lost my ship. Wait, its not going to respawn? WTF? They neuted me? WTF does that mean? Is he a science ship?
No, noob this isn't STO.
I want the cool lasers.
You're in a ferox noob.
Why aren't the torps sparkily?
Again, not STO.
I want to visit this planet.
To do what? PI?
You can't just visit the planet?
Yes, like people in hell can drink ice water.
Holy ****, there's like 300 ships here. What is this?
Nullsec
I'm sold.
