So. I am terrible at video games.
No, no, no need for your sympathy. I have come to terms with it.
However, out of some masochistic compulsion I have determined that I would like to join a nullsec corp at some point. My question is, what should I specialize in? What type of ship, or role in nullsec warfare, may a player with poor manual dexterity and mental bandwidth engage in without frustrating corpmates to the point of self-immolation...?

Choose a role like DPS. That way you alone aren't the linchpin of most operations and your role is very simple. Leave the electronic warfare, logistics, scouting, commanding and tackling to others. You just fit gunz/missiles and shoot them at the target you fleet commander calls. With proper overview settings no friendly ships will be shown in your overview and holding down the control-button freezes the overview, so you will have a hard time miss clicking a target.

The best is to start out small. Specialise in small frigates then cruisers and join a corp that does a lot of fighting and pick up from them.
There will be some frustrations because you are new but hey, people have to pick up the game from somewhere. As long as you lose ISKs much slower than you gain ISKs, you should be able to learn to fight in a sustainable way. --------- The making of the new Jenny Spitfire |

Bait scorpion!
In fact, any kind of bait ship. They require little to no coordination since all the skill goes into planning the fitout and having the ship at the right place at the right time.

Edited by: Tzar''rim on 13/02/2011 01:11:06 OP seems to be no worse than the average 0.0 pilot, at least he can type without using "lulz", "omfg" and "umad". You'll do well if you would choose a dps role, as earlier stated in this thread. As it stands the low SP ship of choice for DPS blobs is the Drake, which is also very useful in a myriad of scenarios.
Fly drake decently well, be able to follow orders (also, bend over and accept being a number and essentially cattle). The majority of 0.0 players never gets beyond this level, even though they might act like fierce warriors, so you'll do fine.

Are you in a good player corp now? If not, why is that?
I don't think manual dex has that much to do with EVE. It's not a twitch game, so your mentally dexterity is far more important. Ninja Extravaganza, Strategies for Ninja Salvagers

Many great replies! Appreciate the kind words. (If ONLY my somewhat-above-average command of the English language translated into in-game competence.)
As a bit of good luck, I have a sizable pool of Learning Skill refund points to play with, so I've got some big - and potentially immediate - decisions to make.
The suggestion to go DPS - effectively as an expendable frontline grunt - resonates with what I'm trying to accomplish here. What ship types would be effective training targets in this regard? (I heard Drake mentioned ... I'm not terribly fond of going FOTM, but if that's the surest path to getting into the action I'll keep an open mind...!)

Awesome post made me laugh. +1 Internetz.. Now as for your question.. Just do what you like to do in EVE matey.. Its a sandbox game wich means you have to forge your own path and goal. That in turn means the only real reason your here is to have fun. So stick with what you like and become as good as possible at it. 0sec alliances need all sorts of pilots from haulers to logistics to capital pilots to combat pilots

This. I'm not much of a game player myself, a lot of the twitch based games I can get by on but they don't have enough depth for me. EVE gives you the chance to think your way through a situation. There are times when you need to be quick, but if you think beforehand you can set your important modules into the top slots on your HUD and just use F1-F8 to activate in a hurry so there's less need to be twitchy like most games.
You might consider logistics possibly. ------------------------------------------------ Quafe is people! |

I would 't recommed flying logistics if you are slow of wit or lumbering in thought (relative to gamers, who are generally well above average in this respect, if not always in depth of thought).
Logi pilots are the keystone, the lynchpin, the heart of a fleet. You need to make sure you are repping the right logi buddies to keep each others' caps up. If one goes down, you need to know right away who to switch to. You will need eagle eyes on the broadcasts and be able to prioritise reps, even when it is sometimes impossible to keep everyone alive.
If you have any desire at all to get on killmails, you will have drones attacking enemy ships. Lose concentration and you could find you are repping the enemy and putting your attack drones on your own side.
The least skilled role, as others have said, is damage dealer. Just turn up in a BS, the FC will tell you who is primary. Lock them, fire weapons. Rinse repeat.

I was in Smashkill back in the day and had to read Peoke's alliance mails. OP might actually be too literate and articulate to lead an alliance.
