Congrats to CCP for selling a bug or flaw as a feature. Well, reading the post below, a feature with a flaw,
From my point of view a waste of resources.
I assume most of the players are interested in flying in space not in "Space Station Second Life". Hopefully, you'll turn your attention to the first again, the second life part is not important, just a nice diversion for 1% of the time online. |

Much appreciated for not bringing out the ban hammer, would be great if it could read other formats and any possibility of linking it in with the existing jukebox controls - maybe so you can have music playing and then have the video show in CQ when you dock.
would also love to see alliance tournament coverage, results etc on CQ screen. |

The premade files work fine in the games I "borrowed" them from as do my converted ones so I would hazard a guess that it's probably a problem with the binkw32 version in use by eve and specific hardware. running an amd 880+sb710 based motherboard, amd quad black edition, amd gfx card with realtek onboard sound... no nvidia stuff which may well be the problem
i7 920, win7 64bit, nvidia gtx 285, and creative titanium pro soundcard. so i guess pretty much everything is different, but we still got the same prob ^^ running eve in fixed window 1920x1080 and pretty much all graphics to max and all graphic enhancing options enabled. had the problem with every .bik video i tried :( |

While This is a good showing, and i like that CCP has given the OK to do this what would have been nicer would have been a "hey guys we also added a nifty little "load Bik" selector where you can create playlists for movies, and at the same time we redid the jukebox with some epic music...
While i'm glad to see gleamering hope of the old ccp, i'm still sad that we still havent seen a update for the
...WATCH THIS SPACE...
that was posted in earlier blogs, so we dont have any word on when the new effects are coming, new nebulas, any interation, nullsec fixes, balancing changes... nothing

Nevermind what some haters say.
This rocks. Can we have some controlls and perhaps one or two channels ?
Oh and you COULD integrate the old juke box in this one...

i seem to have fixed it by first converting the avi to bik without audio and then using Mix in Sound afterwards. At least for HTFU it worked but i still have to try it for the other files. HTFU plays fine now just 2 or 3 times there was a slight increase in audio speed for about half a second, dont know why though. |

I can see the moaning toads are out in numbers so I feel obliged to double my praise of this feature you are providing.
I know it is not a FiS feature but it is darn innovative and opens up for a whole new meta profession in EVE. I see a lot of ISK changing hands to those capable of making good EVE related short movies. And it opens for creativity where the creativity is best located; at the players. That is what this sandbox is all about.
I hope to see some creative people grabbing this opportunity soon. Mr. Science & Trade Institute, EVE Online Lorebook-á |

It's meh at best as far as I'm concerned.
Now if an animation could be added where my toon is eating popcorn and drinking a Quafe, that might be cool.

Now THIS is one real reason why Incarna have a future.
I don't know if you are aware, but this one feature opens up so many doors (uhmmm... yeah.... not those doors).
You have effectively created a whole new content expansion with only this "minor" gesture. EVE just got richer for a market of immersion boosting content. Players building content for other players for fun and/or ISK, player made in-game commercials about space ships, corporation identity videos looping in the CQ, CQ video contests... the options are endless. Fantastic move, CCP!!!
... and, all you had to do is think outside of the box.
I love it. |

Is it just me, but didn't a dev mention something about streaming content/programming via this "screen"? I may have dreamed it, but I feel sure I read that somewhere.
Being able to use your own videos is cool, but using CQ is not worth it. |

i see it as more of a "rather than ban people for what is basically an exploit and breach of a eula, we are instead going make it a feature"
eve is all about player created content and this is an extension of that, and at no point in that dev blog do ccp take credit for it, other than the whole not banning people and "fixing" it thing, they clearly state that players are responsible and let others that mgiht not have known about it know that it is possible.
im also guessing this dev blog came about as a result of a recent thread in gd askign for an official ccp stance on several possible exploits/rule violations, some of which have been around since at least 2007, and which included this "feature". its good to see them communicating more and actually supporting something that would usually be concidered an exploit and against the eula.
speacking of the eula, does this mean there will be an update to it so that modifying the vid screens contents is excluded from the "do not tamper with the client" clause? it would help remvoe some confusion, espedcially in a couple of years with this thread and dev blog are burried and would cut down on the number of petitions relating to this We Want Space Penguins! |

Clever move of CCP, and the right thing to do at this time. However it would have been even more clever to have foreseen how this were gonna get "haxored", and to make it a feature of sorts to begin with. Features & Ideas Discussion: Agent Finder, Black Holes Needs a banner here.. |

bink format you say. Would that be the 2nd definition?
Not too sure this is needed; But given what I suspect that it didn't take much effort given all the time in the station thing you spent that I suppose can't complain. Though who will be the first to watch xxx in there's and post First will be the main question I'm comming away from this.
Now if you were to add the ability to record ingame action like you can in TeamFotress2, then this would have alot more going for it. Is that something you plan on working on, or adding. Or is fraps an area you plan on leaving alone and it's just the likes of VLC that need to worry here :).
Either way, feature wise - who's it goona hurt with the flat screen TV, but be more interesting reading how people use it than the feature itself, currently.

Ok, so we can put converted video's in a folder...
But what if I would ask others to fill the void for me? Say that news blogs (EVEnews24 for example) made a video of the most recent news for us. And each time that there is an update, it is placed in that DIR automatically... Few things that could make this work;
- A volunteer making a news roll and converting it - Uploading it to server X - Tool that downloads stuff from server X - Puts the stuff in the said DIR (set by user) - Deletes the stuff out of the DIR on user preferred setting (once a day, week, etc)
This way I would have a relax place to watch the news, while trading or waiting for everyone's endless jumps to our op. |

This is awesome. Not game changing by any means and I really hope this isn't what they meant by big changes are coming but you have to give them props. They are the only company I know of save for flight simulator who is cool with you modifying their program and even shows you how to do it. That said I knew about this before and didn't do it for concerns about repercussions as well as to me playing a video of something else would detract from the environment of EVE. Maybe better EVE videos though. |

After reading the first paragraph of the dev blog, I was fully expecting the rest of it to describe how they banned the offender and then added a flat screen TV to the NEX store for the price of a real life flat screen TV.
I was pleasantly surprised to discover otherwise, but I'm still not renewing my subscription. |
