so... I got attacked by a PKer for the first time yesterday. or rather, three.. in frigates.
all I got in was one shot, which took out half the shields of one of them. (one shot from a 650mm artillery, and I had two more in my loadout).
then the game stopped responding, and I was subsequently CTD'd.
my ISP had decided to belly-up.
due to this.. I lost not only my vexor and those three 650s... but loot and equipment worth quite a lot. (to me anyway).
oh.. yeah.. and my clone too.
but... the thing that gets me.. is that I also lost sec-rating.. for defending myself? I used to be at 3.1, now I'm at 3.0. considering how hard it is to gain sec-rating now it kinda ****es me off.
if I'd lost fair and square... as in, if I had gotten the chance to actually FIGHT.. I would probably still be playing the game. but as it is now...
there's really no reason to play it, if the drop of an ISP is all it takes to lose millions of isk. heck... even if I had been in a battleship it'd make no difference.
as for poor foresight... yeah, there really is no excuse for there not to be any sa***uards to prevent things like this from happening.
I may jump in now and then... at first to see if my petition gets any responces.. though I seriously doubt it. I've only had one positive experience from CCP and it's volunteers. one out of around ten-fifteen or so.

You realize that everyone would be able to kill own connection to escape from a fight?
Get a new ISP contract. ---

Karma, I hate to say this but no MMOG developer will cover ISP issues.
Many games have ingame precautions in place to cover losses, including Eve. But no developer can program the client/server architecture to tell the difference between someone's ISP going nuts or the player yanking the cord when they're about to lose. It's not possible and giving the victim the benefit of the doubt makes others the victim instead, especially in a game with PvP in it.
Imagine you're attacking someone and get them to 1/4 armor. Suddenly they yank the cord and the game is programmed to log them out immediately. Now you're deprived of the kill and any reward you should have received.
Eve has ship insurance and it generally covers most of the cost of the ship (unless you got a really bad deal). That's about the best anyone can hope for in this environment.
I mean its like you want corporations to oblige each other like its sex or something. Pffft I would rather **** my enemy.- Rohann
Be careful out there. That other guy waiting in the queue for the gate MIGHT be a baby-munching frock-burner, YOU JUST DON'T KNOW!- Lallante |

Yeah molly especially when you sit in space for 5 minutes after disconnecting. Real safe way of logging off in combat.

Accidental disco's are the bane of online life. Unfortunatly due to the fact people DO combat disco ( which in any MMPORPG should be an instant ban ) developers have no option but to allow combat to continue. In your case it sounds like it was just bad timing because with 3x650mm one on each frigate I guess, especially if you'd hit a shield booster, you'd have got away with the CTD as your ship does carry on firing when your disco'd.
