Edited by: Catari Taga on 14/02/2011 16:03:36 Reposting what I already posted in the tech labs thread on the 1.1.0 image dump which was in that format already (dev blog is late?).
Originally by: Catari Taga Well I'm happy with the new format, and while I haven't entirely understood the reason for all the duplication, the new structure is basically how I always handled the old image packs, anyway (put everything in one folder). I would like to echo however that rather than add the image size in the file name these should be put into separate folders again.
The 512 px sized renders are much appreciated, however I would like to request unpublished types to be added, too (notable examples include noob ships and the capsule, but adding all of them again as in previous image exports would be appreciated). Also strategic cruisers, while added, are only 64px sized (typeIDs 29984 to 29990).
The errors and omissions are - of course - still in the current one, but the strategic cruiser renders are now 256 (i.e. someone touched them, but got it wrong once more). --

Is it possible to get the renders and items as transparent pngs, without the background? This would be much more useful.
And for T3 ships, it would be great to get renders of each combination. Again, as a png with transparent background.

Since you are now messing with the structure can we then get the NPC's ships added?
It would be a lot less images if you just used graphicIDs for those that dont need the overlays. That way you only need around 1000 icons. ----- http://games.chruker.dk/eve_online ----- Top wishes: - No daily downtime - Faster training on sisi

Edited by: Dacil Arandur on 14/02/2011 23:03:48 I just finished rewriting everything to use the new icon database structure that came out in the last fansite kit! lol - oh well, I like these changes better anyway.
Thanks for keeping things up to do date for us developers! It's great to be able to use official database dumps and images in our own applications and websites!
Hopefully one day we will be able to make much more interactive sites, like storefronts! http://www.eveonline.com/ingameboard.asp?a=topic&threadID=1461878

For the record, since the toolkit page has no permanence, here are the links to the Incursion 1.1.2 images:
Incursion_1.1.2_imgs_Icons.7z Incursion_1.1.2_imgs_Renders.7z Incursion_1.1.2_imgs_Types.7z
Also, I'm a little disappointed that our feedback has largely been unaddressed. In particular, I have two requests for future image exports.
First, I would like the type icons to be split into directories based on size and to not include the size in their filename. For example, I'd prefer "types/64/582.png" to "types/582_64.png".
Second, I would like the NPC corporation and faction logos to be made available by corporationID and factionID, as in "1000120.png" for the Federation Navy or "500004.png" for the Gallente Federation.
I appreciate your work to make the image export more accessible and useful to third party developers. I think these two small changes would make the export even more useful. Thank you.

If you do the ship renders like that, you better pick different angles so that the ships are recognizable by silhouette. It would suck, for example, to render the Vexor from the same angle as the Rifter (and those two other ships). The Vexor has a recognizable shape if you snapshot it from the side.

Edited by: Manfred Rickenbocker on 17/02/2011 01:17:22 So I was planning on doing a project to utilize these renders and Ive never done this before... is this a static package to download or is it a reference to the website?
Also: are the icons/pictures with opaque or transparent backgrounds? Are there nebulae-less ship renders as well (i.e. with transparent backgrounds)? ------------------------ Peace through superior firepower: a guiding principle for uncertain times. |

Are you talking about shuttles or rookie ships or something else? There are no ships with these exact names in the game.

Yes, I'm aware that the image server includes the NPC corporation and faction images. I mentioned that in the new image export format thread:
Originally by: Epitrope For posterity's sake, I'd like to point out that alliance logos aren't in either version of the image export for Incursion 1.1.0. There is an image server that is more up-to-date. The server does have the NPC logos, too, but I would still like to have them in the export as they're static data.
Most, if not all, of the images in the export are available on a CCP web server somewhere. The point of the image export is to make it easier to develop applications by having all the images easily available and explorable.
The NPC corporation and faction logos are in the image export, but they're in iconXX_YY form, and to the best of my knowledge there's no way to link a factionID or NPC corporationID to XX_YY using only the data and image exports. In order to make use of the logos included, you need to use a hardcoded table that t20 put out several years ago: CrpNPCCorporations.
I think that it's good and useful to have the logos in the image export, because they are static, unchanging data; I'd just like them to be more easily usable. The update to the image export format is to make the images more useful. So, this seems like a good time to improve things.

Most, if not all, of the images in the export are available on a CCP web server somewhere. The point of the image export is to make it easier to develop applications by having all the images easily available and explorable.
We decided to move all alliance logos (including Factions) and all corporations logos (including NPC Corporations) to the Image Server. The reasons were to have an easy way to update the alliance logos, to get better renders for the corporation logos and to have a single system to look up all images. Leaving the Factions and NPC Corporations outside that system would have created an exception whereby code would have to look up images in different ways depending on if a character was in a PC corp or an NPC corp.
The reason the NPC logos are also in the Image Export Collection is that we simply ship all the icons that are available, again so as not create an exception in the code that creates the Image Export.

If you want to use those images; which I don't recommend, I recommend that you use the Image Server; then you can look up the mapping via the Static Data Export Database (SDE). Look for iconID in chrFactions and crpNPCCorporations. Look up that iconID in eveIcons to get the mapping to the filename.

So.. no response to my request for ship images without the backgrounds? And where's the T3 variant images? Not all T3 ships look the same based on the modules used, why can't we have the T3 variants? It would be nice to at least have a response on the idea.

I like how we keep quoting ourselves from that previous thread that remains ignored, and so far it doesn't look as if feedback in the current thread would be more relevant.

As Epitrope said, you cannot do that with the SDE you guys put out (iconID IS NULL for several entries), the only complete table is on the EVE-DEV Wiki. --
