Hi everyone and specialy CCP.....
First of all i'd like to say incursions is a nice implementation and i love it.
Now to the issue. This Air Raid Alarm CCP put into game is literaly dangerous. It is a sound that is used in RL more or less across the world for real air raids, and prepare ppl to find the closest bomb shelter. By having this sound in game, ppl will learn to ignore it, kind of whipe it from your unconsiousnes. Sleeping well you will not wake up if you hear that alarm, and IF so, well a RL bomb next to your house while you sleep. So plz CCP change this alarm for another sound. I've lived in War areas just like many other players here in the univers of EVE. And I get a chill down my neck every time that thing goes of, not to mention duties and actions that has to be put in motion in RL when that thing goes of.
Players might say turn of the sound in game, BUT hey sound is half the experiance ;)
Regards Lighter & Co.

Dear CCP, please remove all references to slaves from EVE Online. Slavery was a horrible practice that had a terrible impact on millions of people over hundreds of years of European oppression and has had a lasting impact to this day. Please, think of the children CCP.

changing the language or ignoring history won't change what happened but it'll prevent people from learning from it.
please stop all brainwashing and suck it up. .

It should have been fairly obvious that my comment was a sarcastic response to the OP. I am against censorship, and especially self-censorship on the behalf of content creators for the sake of "political correctness".
It's a sound effect. The intention of this sound effect is to portray a desperate situation that is on the same level of urgency as what an air raid siren would be used for in real life. If we start imposing limits on how closely games, films, and other media start to imitate real life it's easy to go overboard.
When I was 10 years old, I had to call emergency services to get medical attention for a close family member who ended up dying. Does the sound of ambulances make me stop and relive those painful moments every time? No. OP, it sounds like you might be suffering from PTSD or some other psychological condition related to your experiences, and should seek the assistance of a trained professional in this area. Please do not attempt to make the game conform to your own personal problems. Thanks!

My personal pet peeve are radio commercials that include ambulance/police sirens in them (normally as a background sound in the commercial.) You're driving along and suddenly hear a siren and you're looking around trying to see where it is.
No censorship is just as bad as heavy censorship. Think food and medicine. Or Truth in Advertising. Where you draw the line between what is a regulation and what is outright censorship can be a tad gray, fuzzy, and seemingly arbitrary .
Sirens can be a very critical alarm in such places as tornado alley in the US. I can see the OP's point.

I'm gonna pretend your post isn't a troll...
Being ex-Navy and having been in a few "interesting situations" I can tell you that just the opposite is true: If that air raid sound in game makes you take notice that something is about to happen then you won't ignore the sound in real life.

When the real (not if) sh't hits the fan, you will know. Believe me. Propaganda is a soft weapon; hold it in your hands too long, and it will move about like a snake, and strike the other way.

Edited by: Baldar Einstein on 15/02/2011 14:02:48 Thx for the reply, some usefull and others not. My point is not to remove the alarm totaly, but swap the sound, or have it go of now and then. Having it on in the background all the time is the dangerous part. Since your mind will fade out that sound over time.
Some ppl claim that the sound is no longer in use, but it is the official RL alarm for an Air Raid, and running for cover when the bombs fall well that is to late.
To those of you that is in, or have been in the army, or is "Dry behind the ears" you know know alot of actions has to be put in motion to save lifs.
And if anyone wonder yes my action is not to find a shelter, but to head straight for the airport and try and get a few aircrafts into the skys and prevent the bombs from ever falling.

This is hilarious :-D
Just FYI, in Germany e.g. those air raid sirens have long been taken down in most places.
Also, I've gotten so used to the "shield reaching critical level"-sound that I never notice when my RL spaceship gets into deep shields :-(

I'll gladly listen to the siren, as long as it blocks out the Amarr choir.

It's always funny when people are comparing this game into world war two or battleships into battleships that sailed at oceans. Or carriers to aircraft carriers :D

I hear that sound every Friday at 11 when they test the sirens. Over here it's used as a tornado/severe weather warning. I've heard it a few times during storms too.

Dear CCP,
The French are a blight upon our world and the Gallente reek of their influence. Please delete the Gallente Empire from the game. Any player that had the poor judgment and simpering idiocy to pick a character from one of the poofty Gallente factions should have all their characters biomassed pronto.

This is why I am glad I turned my sound off. Its the same as our volcano warnings and I live in a lahar route. It would be so embarrassing to be playing a video game and end up charging out to the car wearing my bug out bag, armed to the teeth. The neighbors would never let me live it down.

Pretty sure if people hear a real life air raid siren they will get off their asses and do something about it, i.e gtfo and hide... Anyone that doesn't do anything as a result of becoming de-sensitised from hearing the air raid siren in eve quite frankly deserves the darwinian themed end that awaits them.
Also, i havent heard these sirens but i assume they sound in the system, but sound cant travel through vacuums can it?

All of the sounds in your pod are generated by your pod anyway, as additional sensory input to keep those areas of your brain occupied and stimulated as well as providing an additional information channel into your brain.
