Out of all the game so far this is the thing i'm most hazy on. What is the point of them exactly..?
I was told I need a standing of 8.0 with a particular corp to use a jump clone in their territory. But that one corps territory is tiny in comparision to the eve universe... surely you'd want to jump further afied, like the other side of the galaxy. It just seems like a lot of work missions wise... can someone explain what i'm missing with regard to the importance placed on jump clones please.
Thanks in advance.

Once you have a jump clone, you can move it anywhere (more or less).

You are here and a corp mated requests: "I needz teh wepls, come quick!". You go dock and press a button. Now you can help your corp mate with dieing at the other end of the galaxy.
Them JCs are futher quite handy if you want to stash your implants away because you intend to die (the welp-thing again).
Nobody really knows what the 8.0 restriction is about. Mostly because you don't need corp standing at all to get a JC. Have a friendly Rorqual pilot in your corp and ask him kindly to fit that clone bay vet thingy.

Right... So you get the clone and can use it anywhere? I thought it was only valid with the corp you get the standing from. I see now... thanks for the help.

Since jumpclones can be a difficult concept to grasp, I've written a comprehensive guide to jumpclones, explaining everything from how they work and how to create them to using and even destroying them. You can download the PDF guide from EVE-files in several languages: English (original, by Estel Arador), German (translated by Maglamoore Maraga) and Spanish (translated by Crassus Detlator). The guide has been downloaded over 12000 times.

The 8.0 standing requirement is likely about trust.
Excerpt from Jita 4-4:
Quote: And that cloning facility you wake up in?
That cloning facility is surrounded by some of the most high-clearance people in the field - these invisible caretakers who oversee the rebirth of the universe's elite. They have a job with an importance like no other in our world, and with it, surveillance and monitoring you won't see anywhere else either. They are the real bodyguards. If a corporate CEO is waking up in one of these facilities, his contingent on the ground have already failed, and this, the most sacred of contingency plans, now depends on the people in the white suits. Obviously, not everyone is comfortable with that, least of all us capsuleers who won't often admit how tenuous our grip on everything really is.
Why? Because these people in white suits could make things go horribly wrong for you and me.
I think the reason we've started installing cloning vats on our largest, most powerful ships has less to do with logistics and more to do with trust issues.

Jump clones are teleport points, pretty much. You need high standings to buy the clone from an NPC station, or you can get one from a player corporation with 0.0 outposts (they will charge you several million ISK, but no standings are required). You buy the clone, you jump to it from your home base, and then you can fly the clone to wherever you want. Every 24 hrs you can jump back or forward between your original and your clone, and they each can hold separate sets of implants.
Typical use: one clone in empire space with high-level implants, for PVE activities, and one clone in lowsec or 0.0 space with no implants - whenever you feel like PVP'ing a bit, you jump to the no-implants clone and can go kill and be killed to your hearts content. When done, jump back to Empire and mine away while training skills at high speed.

Guess you live in nullsec. For most players the Rorqual is an irrelevancy.
Just join a corporation that has established good relations with at least one NPC corp and you can use their standings to set up your jump clone. Any empire corporation worth a damn should have one set aside for this purpose. __________________________________________________ Player Since 2005 Over 4000 hours logged

Oddly, Estel did not mention that he is responsible for the creation of a service that provides free jump clones all over the galaxy (He no longer runs it himself).
Don't bother grinding to 8.0, just check out this thread for free jump clones. ----- Malevolence. is recruiting. Dive into the world of 0.0 !

I understood the question to be about moving jumpclones, not getting jumpclones. To get jumpclones, EACS (now run by Alacta Lithia) indeed is an excellent option

The reasoning given by CCP (they used to do that a few years ago in public, nowadays you have to join the CSM to get any reasonable statement) was that it is supposed to encourage pilots to join player corps to get a JC. Sadly the documentation of EVE Online is rather poor in that reguard. In fact it does not mention it in any positive manner. I'm not sure if you can encourage young pilots to join a player corp to get a JC by warning them about storing clowns in player owned stations.
Anyway, since the general consensus amongst CCP and the player base is that a new player should join a player corp real quick to learn how to play the game well, this is not much of an issuse. No wait! I just slipped a few years back in time. One step for and two back is the way forward!
