I was trying to do a guristas vigil in an Ishkur and in the 2nd room there are two towers at 30km. I had my drones attack them, but all the drones were killed and I had to warp out. How should I deal with the towers? Or, are you just supposed to use a cruiser with missiles? _____________________________________________ I am not an alt |

Try to use rails+spike and release drones when you get full aggro.

The 'Vigil' combat sites are the highest level ones found in high security systems. I think they should be done with a couple of fleet members in Battlecruisers. Could probably solo it in T3 Cruiser or Command Ship.

I did ok with an Ishkur (T2 frigate). I had to kite a little bit. The main problem was the stasis towers (no kiting). The thing is that I have it set up as a blaster ship (which is the normal PVE loadout) so there is no way to attack the towers other than with the drones (in which case you lose the drones). I guess I could try using 150mm railguns with spike ammo; that might get me out to 30km.
What about my second question. After I killed everything in the second room, including the dread gurista guy, I used the gate in the second room it went to nowhere. Is that normal?
BTW OT the main thing the dread guy dropped was an alpha crystal worth like 5m so I don't see what is so good about this exploration thing. I mean I searched all night and found almost no good sites, a few user manuals, stuff like that. The 5m alpha crystal was the "highlight". I could have done like 10 or more L4 missions in the same time span. Remind me why I am doing this again?

To not get bored to death in level 4 missions? I cannot think of any better reason than this if you do exploration only in hisec.

I have solo'ed all highsec caldari combat sites in a Hawk (T2 Frigate)with rockets. This was about 2-2.5 years ago and the Hawk was also setup for probing (sisters probes with gravi rigs). It took me about a week to buy a tengu running with this hawk back when they were 2+ bil isk each.

Edited by: XXSketchxx on 22/02/2011 15:51:03 Edited by: XXSketchxx on 22/02/2011 15:49:23 Vigils are a PITA due to the fact that you can't blitz them without a lot of damage. The faction spawn that can trigger the escalation in the second room is on a timer and takes about 20 minutes to spawn. Alternatively you can kill all the ships in the room, but reinforcement waves usually come in before you can if you're not doing at least 400 DPS.
To the op, the third room will show a pop up "Kidnapped" if it escalated. If not, no escalation.
Like I said, the cruiser can also trigger the escalation. It is my belief that if you attempt to trigger it from either of these points (activating the gate or waiting and killing the dread cruiser) and you do not get the escalation, trying the other method will not yield it either.
Oh and as for "I did some exploration and all I got was this lousy T-shirt"....
Imagine if that LG Crystal Alpha had been a Delta, Epsilon or even an Omega. Or possibly a worm BPC. That might change your tune eh?

So, when you say "combat sites" are you talking anomalies? Would I be better off just doing L3 anomalies? From the high sec exploration sites I have seen so far you would be lucky to make 20 million a night unless you get an escalation, and one guy told me he gets escalations 5% of the time. So even if you worked all week and did say 20 vigils, got one escalation, you might make 150 million + say 150 million for the escalation, that is nowhere near 2 billion. In the same time you could make 150 million a day doing L4s easy for a total of at least a billion.

If you want a steady, reliable stream of isk, exploration may not be for you.
Exploration is for those that want something different than the mundane; getting a nice drop provides an awesome feeling every time in addition to a pile of isk.
If you need steady isk and instant gratification, missions may suit you better.

use an afterburner, get in close and orbit at around 900m. get full aggro before releasing your drones. This is how I do it in my Ishkur and I never have a problem with towers/batteries.

The question involves stasis towers. Stasis towers prevent you from moving. You sit there motionless in space while dozens of heavy missiles slam into you. _____________________________________________ I am not an alt |

Heh, you're a fool. I may not have done any Guristas Vigil sites but if you try to solo Angel Vigil site, you'll get spanked hard. Angels love to Target Paint, add to that the dual Stasis Towers and you can kiss your troll arse goodbye.

Angel Vigil is still doable in a hac or bc.
