Question for PVPers and Carebears alike - If Pods were invulnerable , would there be more or less pvp. Would you care? and Would it destroy the eve economy or just the implant market?
Please leave constructive feed back. Pods go squish.

There would be less PvP obviously since you can't destroy the pods - that means less kills (damn, I was trying to bull**** you but it turned out to be technically correct).
Also, it would obviously destroy the whole economy and all of Eve.

There would be more pvp, but it would have less meaning. Aside from someone getting themselves in a situation where they lose a faction ship or officer mods the random hope that the pod you just killed had a crystal set in it is the only thing that keeps people going.

Honestly it could go both ways.
You would get a lot of new people trying out pvp for the first time, however you would get some old timer pvp pilots losing interest as there would be less risk. Part of the rush of pvp is the risk of losing it all and having to buy a new clone.

Apart from nullsec, they are virtually invulnerable. There are a few things that can catch you by surprise, but they all are avoidable if you are careful.

Overview has a 1 second delay to update. Add some kind of lag to that and human reaction time at the other end... should normally be long enough to warp your pod out.
Only reason you should lose your pod is a) in a warp bubble b) if you go afk or your client dies
Personally I would not hate it if CCP changed bubbles such that they did not catch pods. BUT this would change game mechanics a bit (podding people back to their med clone station) and probably not be generally loved by the 0.0 dwellers. Who knows.

implants would be STUPIDLY expensive.
nothing in this game apart from trained skills are safe from destruction/loss, and thats why they are sold by NPCs.

Checked BC for lulz, it auto adds all my kill/lossmails. Lost 5 pods in 6 years, and the last one was in 2007
--edit: Scratch that, was looking at page 2 of losses. Apparently I lost one last year, though that was me suiciding a blank jump clone back to empire, if that counts I guess?
Certainly hasn't deterred me from PvP :p

People who don't have the ******* to risk a few measly implants (with mechanics making it almost impossible to lose a pod), sure as **** don't have the ******* to risk their vulnerable ship in PvP.

Honestly I would pvp more if I didn't lose my implants when I was podded, or if there was only a chance to lose them. Strategically it makes sense to pod in order to send people far away. I have bad timing as when I do JC, I often find myself wanting to pvp before the 24 hrs. I have now just stopped caring, but it would have helped when I first started out.

REALLY!?
Without the potential loss of pods, losing implants, having to upgrade a clone etc. Where is the risk. Where is the heart thumping oh crap i need to GTFO of here. Where is the satisfaction of the soft gooey center to KAIK.
Personally I believe that losing a pod is so shall we say no big deal that they should increase the cost of clone upgrades or implants. Then it would bring a new meaning and dynamic back of actually negotiating to keep your pod.

Actually if no pods exploded the demand for implants would drop and prices would fall after the initial rush.
Lowsec is like rockets - nobody uses that content, so why would they fix it?

People would definitely PvP more. As it stands you pretty much have to choose between low risk (no or lesser implants) and faster skill training. If you want +5s, then you probably ought to stay out of PvP. The 24 hour delay on jump clones doesn't help either.

Very true. The 24h wait every time you jump clones is really very prohibiting.
Podding isn't that bad but to lose skilltime every time you PvP is a very high price in a game where skilltraining is the only bottleneck. ________________* - If you're in favour of a bloodline change please vote in the Assembly Hall in this thread - |

This should be true, but my recent experience shows that, for some reason, it isn't.

I would definitely get into PVP, who cares about losing a PVP ship, its the chip set that is the $$$. Especially as a newbie, I feel I need +5 all the time without all those vets around me with their massive SP.

It'd probably be a bit more boring to PvP without squishy pods, personally my objective in PvP is to kick people as hard as I can in the financial pants. As other posters have said though I doubt it would have a significant effect on the economy when you bear in mind CCP has a precedent of market adjustments when resources become either too abundant or a bottleneck occurs. If pods were all of a sudden totally invulnerable I would imagine CCP would either increase their LP cost or provide another mechanic for obtaining them - most likely removing stat implants from the LP stores and adding them as mission loot as hardwirings currently are or keeping them as special awards.

Not sure if the effect will be that great. How many people actually take the risk to get podded with +5s anyway ... they must be either extremely rich or extremely stupid.

Perhaps make clone jumping cost money just like buying a new clone. 24 hours is just too long, especially as you "pay in advance", sometimes without even getting into PvP at all.
