Is it possible to scan down Lvl 4 Mission runners in a Noctis to ninja salvage? Or do I need a ship with scanning bonuses?
Thanks,

Absolutely doable even with a full rack of salvagers. Might need some co-processors if you want to add tank + mwd (expanded probe launcher is 220 cpu).

It's possible. It's also a complete waste of a ship and you might as well do it in a Hulk.
Your only advantage will be a (slightly) shorter salvager cycle, but you won't ever be able to use it since you'll most likely be the slowest thing in the field and since it will take you (roughly) forever to get between the wrecks.
What makes the Noctis such an excellent salvager is its tractor range, which means it never has to move anywhere to get to all the wrecks. If you're ninja salvaging, you can't do that. Instead, you have to travel from one wreck to the nextà in a very non-agile, slow-moving battlecruiser hull. Chances are that even the mission-runner, in his slow-ass battleship, will be able to outrun you (even more so these days, when prop mods on mission ships have become increasingly popular).
In short, the exact same reasons that make the Noctis great for salvaging makes it absolute garbage for ninja salvaging. ùùù ôIf you're not willing to fight for what you have in ≡v≡à you don't deserve it, and you will lose it.ö ù Karath Piki |

My view is use either a fast t1 hull like a rifter or go with an inty or AF. There are all sorts of great reasons for going t1 since there are all sorts of great ways to die.

What if it's fitted with a MWD, would that make it too slow? Surely I can fit a Probe Launcher, all the Salvagers, and a MWD on a Noctis. I'll have to try something on EFT when I get home cause now I'm determined to make a Ninja Noctis

Yes. It's still a battlecruiser-size hull, and one that is very slow and non-agile even for a BC. It provides you pretty much zero benefits for what you're going to do, and does so at a rather high price.
Any T1 frigate will do the job better; any of the T1 astrometric frigates will be far better, since they have a probing bonus; any of the covops ships will be an order of magnitude better since they have ample fitting space and a probing bonus. All of these will be faster, cheaper, and better suited for the task. Oh, and they'll probably tank better as well, should you come across one of the more belligerent mission runnersà
Hell, if you absolutely feel the need for a BC-class ship, why not go for a battlecruiser? You get loads more fitting space to counteract that sluggishness.
So again, you might as well go for a ninja-salvaging hulk, if the point of the exercise is to make things difficult for yourself. The only benefit a Noctis provides for a ninja salvager is a benefit that will rarely come into play because of how the ship fails to perform in every other respect. ùùù ôIf you're not willing to fight for what you have in ≡v≡à you don't deserve it, and you will lose it.ö ù Karath Piki |

Everything that has been stated above is true. If you don't loot (get flagged for thievery), it is entirely possible to salvage the whole place and laugh as the mission runner rages in local. But if you get shot at by either the missioner of the rats, you're pretty much screwed.
Best not to do this. Just use a fast frigate and hit the large wrecks as normal.

If you're having troubles in a fast frigate when a Noctis is onsite salvaging the mission then here's a trick: Park your butt right on top of the Noctis and salvager the large wrecks as he reels them in. I used to do this pre-tyrannis to mission salvagers. It's both demoralizing and sometimes they'd leave and great for tears....it's also effortless.

Epic lolz. I approve of this product and/or service.

Parking on the top of the Noctis only works, if his/her salvaging skills aren't all that high. If he is able to salvage most of the wrecks in a single cycle, his single cycle always finishes before your single cycle = no salvage for you.

A well trained Noctisnpilot might end up having wrecks tractored in that are queued up for salvaging, so just salvage the stuff the Noctis is not salvaging. Alternately, while the Noctis is busy fracturing other wrecks, bump the Noctis off its wreck ball. -- [Aussie players: join ANZAC channel] |

Okay okay I've come to my senses. So I made up this fit on EFT;
Minmatar Frigate Probe
Sisters Expanded Probe Launcher (Sisters Core Scanner Probe 1) - Or should I use Combat Scanner Probes? Salvager II
1MN MicroWarpdrive II Cap Recharger II
Inertia Stabilizers II Overdrive Injector System II
Small Salvage Tackle II x3
This baby can hit speeds in excess of 2.8km/s, probably 3km/s with proper implants, and is cap stable at 32%. Training on a brand new pilot would only take 3 weeks to be able to fit everything, add an extra month to make it cap stable. Of course you could always fit T1 versions of everything to make a cheaper fit(around 10 or 15Mil) but it won't be cap stable.

I would LOVE to see you ninja salvage in a Noctis. They would be great at it.

Waste of a perfectly good Noctis, but I see what you're getting at.
If you want a similar experience, that is to say you want to gobble up the loot and salvage at an alarming speed, I suggest a fleet stabber, fleet scythe, or Drami, add the Cyna to the list if price isn't an option, and of course T2 salvagers. None of those will QUITE match what the Noctis is capable of doing when the wrecks are tractor beam targets, but they are stupidly fast at ripping a room apart. I'm pretty sure that in the case where the wrecks are yellow, the Noctis would lag FAR behind those 4. Additionally, they're very resilient to rat or player aggro. You might lose one or two a year once you know what you're doing with the added bonus that you can do ninja gank hijinks that just aren't possible w/ the Noctis.
