I'm currently rebooting into Windows to play EVE, but have fooled around with installing it in Linux with WINE.
I use the Nouveau drivers for my graphics card, which has experimental 3D support with Mesa. I could remove it and instead use the stock nVidia drivers for Linux (which work fine).
Anyone have any advice/experience with which Linux nVidia driver to use?
Setup: Fedora 14 x64 (testing repos enabled) nVidia 8800 GT

I'll preface by saying that I continue to boot into Windows to play EVE. But do log into EVE in Linux once in a while just to do something quickly.
I'm using nVidia's 260.19.36 driver with my 9600 GT card in Ubuntu 10.10 (32 bit)
I haven't yet experienced any graphical problems with this driver (all settings on high) other than the character creator screen being a little choppy, but usable.
The reason that I continue to reboot into Windows to play EVE is due to random client crashes. I don't believe that they are graphics related, but I don't know for certain. These become more frequent with two clients open, as I normally do.
Being the Linux newbie that I am, I don't know if the following command lines will work for you on Fedora. But, I'll leave them anyway for anyone else reading this. This will install the current nVidia driver loaded into the corresponding repository onto your system.
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ferramroberto/nvidia sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install nvidia-current nvidia-current-modaliases nvidia-settings The driver version number is the same for the 32 vs. 64 bit operating system, so I don't know if the driver is actually any different.
I hope this helps.

Its not even a competition. The open source Nouveau drivers aren't anywhere NEAR the binary drivers in regards to performance, especially with games such as EVE. While the 3d support is improving, if you wish to play games such as EVE via wine, the Nvidia drivers are the ONLY way to go.

I have them too. Heard that if you compile wine yourself, its way more stable. Give it a try, I will do that shortly too.
