Yeah, the ones that come up 'null' or that weren't linkified still qualify, it's fine. I just *prefer* links. --------------

Edited by: Nakayme Caonis on 31/03/2011 00:57:42 Out of the five to ten I read, I have to say that I like The Ball KingÆs Subjects the most. You can find it here: http://www.eveonline.com/ingameboard.asp?a=topic&threadID=1486316&page=1
I started off by picking five stories at random, and was disappointed that most of them were Sansha based, Starship based, or had overly-powerful hero characters. I also tried to stay away from historical events. That doesnÆt mean that the stories I read were bad, but I was hoping to see a bit more variety û particularly in the kind that depicts different portions of EVE that are not much considered or reflected in the game itself.
However, the reason I like The Ball KingÆs Subjects isnÆt just because itÆs the first story I read that actually got away from this û it is written rather well, and describes the Minmatar Republic in a rather dark and grimy way û that non-capsuleers are not as fortunate, and that many, many people who are fortunate have very little control to change their own destinies, and the destinies of others.
Stories like this are what give meaning to being a capsuleer û to have the wealth of nations, the power of stars, and the influence of gods. It is from the perspective of people in Stateira KaydosÆ story that it becomes clear û Capsuleers have the power to shed the bright light of hope to millions, or to blanket their futures into the deepest, darkest recesses of despair. To us, they are but a way to profit and further our trade. But to them, the power we have is unimaginable. It is no wonder that there was such a dislike for capsuleers in CCP DropbearÆs Chronicle Jita 4-4.
So, while I did read about ten stories, some even good, The Ball KingÆs Subjects was the only one that stood out as being original, deep, and exemplary of the non-starship culture that makes EVE, well, EVE.
PS - Stateira Kaydos: If you win, you owe me a Quafe in game. K? Thx.

Any news on this or maybe a hint of how the decision process is going or if the contest has just been pulled out?
Are the EON Mag folk dragging their feet again? =^,^=

It just takes a little bit, between the volume of stories and also having RL.
I should have an announcement about the winners up in the next couple days (possibly today if I have enough time.) --------------

Take your time, and thanks for holding this contest. Actually, I'd be surprised if you got it done today - 10 days after the entry deadline. Seriously. Haven't you learned anything from the CCP contests? You have to keep everyone waiting 1-3 months - OR LONGER - to announce the winners, for suspense! If you go faster, people might start thinking you are addicted to EVE or something.

Reposted the winners here - there is also a thread on the new forum with the announcement, if the new forums come back up again. I could have given out a lot more prizes than we did, and it was tough to narrow it down to so few. I'm already looking forward to next year. --------------

Edited by: Lupus Albus on 16/04/2011 17:32:12 Well damn. Look what I get for taking a 4-month break from Eve; I miss the writing contest! I guess I'll just have to try and reclaim my spot in the winners' circle next year! ----------------------------------------------

No word on that. I don't know if they'd be talking to me or to the authors in question. That sort of stuff may happen on a more expanded timescale tahn the contest happened on, though. --------------

Oh, some great stories, well done to all the entries. Although first prize to fellow Alliance members pongs a little of nepotism? But hey, your game, your rules: "but in the end, Eve isn't fair. Value it as a learning experience."

I felt her story was the best.
If I wanted to give faction ships to people in my alliance because they were in my alliance, I wouldn't need to read 50 stories. --------------

I just learned about this contest now.
I have a short story to submit. Are these contests held annually? Do you have any recommendations about where I should submit my story (with the hopes of being rewarded in ISK?)

So I know there are forums and whatnot, but do you know of any other contests or frequented forums where we can further post our stuff?

If you've not found it already, Backstage has a section for player-created fiction. You could also do what several writers have and make a blogspot/wordpress/podlogs site to link back to. ---------------------------------
