Edited by: Pele Healfdene on 28/02/2011 00:47:08 Edited by: Pele Healfdene on 28/02/2011 00:45:08 What is a easy fail safe tank setup for level 4 mission in a Dominix?
I mean, I want to be able to go afk and make some food while tanking a extravaganza or basically any fully loaded spawn I may encounter in a level 4 mission. A kill all setup, not having to pay attention to triggers and all that. I can fit T2 whatever I may need. I read that I basically need to fit 2 of each damage type active hardeners for the damage type that will be dealt to me, but are they always only 2 types of damage?
If possible I would like to fit a 1 setup works for all kinda setup if possible, but if not I can switch hardeners for damage types being dealt to me.
What should I use for my low and mid slots is mostly what I'm asking. And also, what should I put in my rig slots? And what size of drones should I bring?
I come back with my salvager to pick up my loot and salvage all the wrecks. |

the main issue with afking missions in a domi is that respawns have a tendency to shoot your drones.
as for the setup a dual rep + 4 specific hardeners + damage control + cap recharger + ccc fit should work for most missions. there are only a few that can break that tank.
for afking the drones of choice would be Ogre IIs.

If you have changing hardeners, might aswell make a loadout for each NPC enemy and with correct and hardeners and correct drones.
Ogres only do most damage against some mercenaries and Amarr/Sansha.(Preator doesn't fall that much behind though, but are faster).
So many dominix pilots out there who haven't done 5 minutes research, but just use the (usually) inferior Ogres against everything.
So, the correct answer is use the right drone, for the right enemy. |

ok, I think I almost got this ship built. But now I'm wondering what size of guns and to use T2 or T1?

If you're seriously planning on going afk -- meh. It doesn't matter. You're not going to be firing (except to draw agro) anyway. Might as well use a civie gun or a gattling pulse laser (never have to reload; woot).

^^ What Zhilia said. Use another Drone Link or something, no sense wasting a slot. If you want to fit guns for a LITTLE extra DPS, I guess fit the biggest ones you can with your fitting skill.

Low: 1600mm rolled tungsten 2 x large armor reps tech II Damage Control Hardeners accoring to rats (you can go 2 x eanmII's + exp II if you want to "omnitank" it and your skills are good enough for passive)...
medium: cap recharger II's
high: 1 noob-gun (no ammo and for pulling agro) 2 large smartbombs tractor beam salvager Drone range
rigs:
CCCx2 and a drone speed if you use heavy drones or a sentry dmg if you go for sentries.
This setup tanks everything and is cap stable provided you skillz are cool. Screw the guns, gpo do something else while the drones do their part (You'll quickly learn which missions spawn drone aggroing rats and not).

@ Schmacos
Pls no armor plating in PVE. Lol at smartbombs in highsec, concord will finish the work of the rats.
@ OP
Simply build your domi around a dual LAR, and make it cap stable. A drone navi comp helps when using Heavy Drones, omnidirectional when using Sentries.

I run missions and one of my ships is a domi with dual large armor reps. I think my fit is pretty solid (cap stable, pertinent resists > 70, etc.) but I can assure you that some level 4 missions, if you mess up aggro/kill all the triggers/etc... you will not be able to tank all the incoming DPS. You'll have to run. So if you truly want to AFK a mission, you will, at the very least, have to be careful about what missions you run.
That being said, if you want something with an insane tank... you really aren't that far from a rattlesnake (if you have the money for it). You can train up caldari battleship 1 in less than 2 weeks and if you have skills for a shield tank.... the rattlesnake can be fitted for an obscene overtank. I've seen passive fits that would take 1400 dps (with implants). I still don't think you could take full pocket aggro in all the missions but you could AFK more missions with a rattler than with a domi (assuming your drones don't all die from catching aggro).
