Greetings Space People!
I noticed we didn't have a topic for discussion of the PVP tournament at Fanfest so I wanted to kick off a thread here to get some feedback and see what people have to say about the format. The current rules can be found Here
In general we had two overarching objectives for this tournament, accessibility and uniqueness. I believe we've achieved both of those. As far as accessibility, we wanted to make sure that everyone, no matter how knowledgeable you are of particular shiptypes or fittings, could participate. We don't want people spending hours agonizing over how to fit what ship, we have the Alliance Tournament for that type of thing. Fanfest is a celebration of every player so we wanted to ensure that we were setting the bar nice and low.
The unique piece comes in from our use of capture mechanics as a determinant for victory. We've had to do some fun custom stuff to make it work but ultimately I think it will be a satisfying event.
On top of that we've added a few rounds of Royal Rumbles, which is an every man for himself battle with the last man standing taking the prize. We've also added some Duel a Dev time where, in essence, there'll be some Devs hanging out with us down in the tournament area for you to test your mettle against, or vice versa.
All in all I'm pretty amped and I'm looking forward to hearing your feedback. Discuss. |

Looks pretty cool.
I am hesitant about having factions assigned, and limiting it to only 2. What gave rise to that particular decision? The ship class restriction is welcome (no drakes!). Leveling the field somewhat in terms of Ewar is nice (no faction specific ewar allowed), and combined with no logistics should lead to some nice explosions.
A few questions come to mind: Are T2 drones going to be allowed? Will rigs be seeded? Is the capture point triggered by Proximity (i.e. Who ever has more people within a certain range?) What is the minimum time required to capture the point (assuming the time is reduced per member present). And will a fully captured point end the match?

There are a few things that are not clear with the rules:
Drones: Will there be T2 drones. What about the use of shield and armor transfer drones as well as ECM drones.
Electronic Warfare: The rules say the only ECM allowed will be disruptors, scramblers, and stais webs. None of these are actually ECM, does it mean electronic warfare. Also, would that mean no use of Target Painters.
Remote Logistics: Does this include all forms of remote assistance, such as Energy Transfers and Remote Sensor Boosters, or just Shield Transporters and Remote Armor Repairers.

im only guessing here but rigs have always been in. and also all T2 drones or at least the last few years.
im unhappy about little things like the lack of "proper" EW also are there restrictions on the type of drones you can have?
and last thing this is specially true for the first round and perhaps the second one. but teams need a lot more then 5 min to setup the ships. 10 min is cutting it close. if you win a few rounds you can easy setup the ship in 5 min but the first one is always hell. im speaking from experience here!
i also won 2008 but i did not get any sig |

Hey guys I'm going to answer some of your questions now and I'll have a few big updates today or tomorrow regarding fittings but for these specific questions:
T2 drones will be allowed. No Rigs. Capture point is triggered by proximity - I believe it's 20k minimum but I'll give more detail once I confirm. A fully captured point will end the match, but is not required. |

We'll be linking the complete list of allowed modules and hulls in this thread shortly so there's no ambiguity. This will give you plenty of time to fool around with fittings in various ways. We will also be providing prefit ships which we will be making a post about as well shortly. We sacrificed some of the variability in fittings in favor of accessibility for Fanfest. We want to make the tournament available to ANYONE, from a super fitting genius to someone who just started playing last week.

WHOOPSY, here you go! You can also always use the battleclinic tool to plan your fittings.
