Edited by: Miilla on 08/03/2011 11:57:33 We have report an Isk spammer (Should be relabled Seller) why can we not have Report a BOT?
Sure people abuse it, warn them like the other button. This would at least give CCP some data set to mine and think about. no?

Report ISK seller button - easy for CCP to check recent chat logs, find ISK spam in Local, take action.
Report Bot - what next? Track back through hours upon hours of server records, ship movements, combat, market orders, PI interaction? Somebody doesn't move from an asteroid have they just gone to get coffee? Tabbed out to watch YouTube? Pilot ratting in a consistent pattern, has he just figured out the optimal spawn cycle and is being efficient? Sell orders / buy orders not behaving as you expect couldn't that just be that 99% of players don't understand Margin Trading? Guy in a mission not responding to convo requests maybe he doesn't want to talk to you?
And all that to find it's some tear-stained juvenile sociopath who is trying to get "revenge" or "lols" by using one-click to report another player as a bot and sic CCP on then, when what they actually did was pop his precious shiny new cruiser while he auto-piloted it to gate.
Don't get me wrong, bots are a pox on any MMO - but a structured petition with suspicions, evidence and reason is the way to go about it. If you can't be bothered to write that out, you're obviously not that concerned or not that sure of your accusation.

Well no if you get many reports from different people in different corps and that reduces the likely hood of "revenge" clicks.
At first they can just have some data set to mine over, not to act over.
Is there a petition item called "report a bot"? I never found it.

You'd only be giving them more work. i.e. making them create another junk mail filter.

Report isk seller seemed to work didn't it? I hardly see any isk seller spam now.
Do you?

I suspect the reason is simple.
When some one spams an isk selling message it chat its clear that they are an isk spammer and can be quickly dealt with.
For a bot (mining/ratting/ missions) its not immediately clear that they are bots, before reporting them players should spend some time considering why they think they are a bot. Both to reduce the number of false reports and to help CCP do the initial assessment.
If we could right click report bot, CCP would get people reporting every mining barge in hi sec.
Even with the current system of having to open a petition and create the report you still get false positives. I know that I have been reported before just because I refused to accept chat requests and ignored posts in local from idiots (spent most of my time involved in other channels or hunting though contract for someone selling a tech2 BPO cheap by mistake). Macrointel, the place were the nature order of the universe does not hold sway. Pirates and ore thief's are congratulated by carebears for the actions. |

I don't read local. So you are correct, I don't see isk spammers.

The system WoW uses for this solves this problem by simply not giving a **** until that account builds up a certain number of reports from different players.
But yeah, they should probably add it as a category of petition rather than a one-click thing. ---

Maybe CCP could design a bot that could do that automatically for them.

Certain bot habits are something that does not need to be found and ccp could easily fix with simple macro to alert them to these activities 1. Mining/ratting in a system from downtime-downtime. ( if you rat from downtime-downtime 23 hours a day for a week straight you are either sharing your account or botting) 2. This is the easist to see, If you see 45 magnates all with similar cargo all taking the same path for a week. Its a bot.

bot owners pay for game time with GTC/sub/plex(that someone else paid for) ergo they are good for business, why would CCP want to lower their revenue?

Have you looked at the analysis that has been done on the financial effects of bots? Bots are bad for business for two reasons 1) They deter real players that keep the game going 2) While they pay for the game, the cost of the game is based on fixed over head X and operation costs Y (say 23 hours of game play per week). In the case of botters is X+7*Y.
This means that CCP's not fixed overhead as gone up by 7 times, so CCP loss money on each bot account.
Fixed overheads are office space, devs etc
Operation costs, are power for the servers, network costs etc.
The Botters force CCP to spend disproportionate more on hardware and network bandwidth then on players due to the number of hours they are on line.

Bots are a issue indeed, I agree. We should deal with them.
Then I'll laugh at the counter whine posts where ship prices increase by 50% and moon mining profit goes down the drain because there are no super cheap fuel to buy, which makes t2 prices skyrocket.
Ban all bots, cya all on the forums after. ---

I support this, but its not going to do anything. Bots pay CCP good money to play.
