Hello capsuleers,
We hope you enjoyed the March 8th Live Dev Blog on Fiction and Content in EVE Online and hearing from CCP devs t0nyG, Abraxas, Gnauton, Big Dumb Object, and Headfirst about their work on EVE Online.
WeÆre also interested in whatever constructive feedback you have that will help us improve the next Live Dev Blog. Please let us know what you think in this thread, weÆll be keeping an eye on it and taking your views into consideration as we move forward with the final part of this Live Dev Blog series in April.
(Further details on the next Live Dev Blog will be announced in advance of that broadcast.)

One question I asked did not get answered well, I think because I asked it poorly.
When we get incarna, we will dock, and then quickly appear on our balcony (thanks for that).
But in incarna trailers we have seen a lengthy decanting process.
How is eve canon being modified to account for the fast transition of ship to balcony?
Edit: First!

This was fun, interesting and informative, though from the outside looking in it was hard to follow along with the flow, to know who was who, and what kinds of questions they would be in a position to answer. It might be easier for non-CCP listeners to follow if there was a little bit of a programme/agenda thing we could read along with.
If the questions are picked and the guests are briefed beforehand, it would be nice to post the list of questions on the forums so we can attempt follow along from there.
Noticed a lot of "hi, how are you?" "um... good? you?" Might have sounded better: "Next up is CCP SuperDev with the dev department. Tell us how you dev, SuperDev." Maybe include a 1-line bio on the programme/agenda so we can keep track of who does what.
In all, it definitely felt a lot smoother and more fun than the previous one. Looking forward to the next.

I think your question was pretty clear. I mean this problem jumps out at anyone even remotely familiar with EVE's lore, and these guys are supposedly writing it.
My question was on the same subject: What is the 'story' reasoning for having the pod-pilot disembark (and then not go anywhere) every single time the ship docks, even if only for a second to pick up some remotely purchased stuff.
Here's the 'answer' from a transcript here: "WhatÆs happening between docking and the balcony? CCP is trying to minimize the impact of the feature on performances." Is that a "story" explanation?
Lolcustomers indeed. ...

I enjoyed the devblog a lot.
Certainly keep the straight talk. If something (like COSMOS and epic arcs) are not in the books, its good to simply state that fact.
there where certainly a few new things revealed, about dust for instance. that was cool.
Someone (I think CCP t0nyG) was hitting his desk or something pretty much the entire time. Maybe... not do that

Edited by: Jowen Datloran on 09/03/2011 10:12:59 CCP t0nyG likes to gesticulate when talking. That is fine except when we cannot see him and there is a desk in front of him. That desk took a severe beating, I must say.
I will also agree to the question to why capsuleers now, seemingly by default, leaves their pod every single time they dock at a station was misunderstood and answered poorly. Right, sure, game mechanics takes precedence as usual, but if CCP wants to create immersion they should not make things that aims at breaking it.
The priority of questions was a bit off; the most frequently asked topic was COSMOS and it was nice to hear that is on minor maintenance task due to the need of reworking the whole system to improve on it. Though CCP management might not currently want to spend the man hours to relaunch old content as new, we can only hope one day they will want to seriously finish the half-done content in the game instead of just adding more half-done stuff to the pile. I bet I am not the only one getting tired of hearing "this is foundation to improve upon".
But considering that the two most 'hot topics' in the Fiction forum is all about Sleepers it was odd that they did not get mentioned at all in this dev blog. I did manage to get a short reply after the session but still, we should have had a question about Sleepers.
P.S. Thumps up to CCP Soundwave for being the first person ever to vocally pronounce my characters name while I hear it.

A sensible mechanic would be to keep the pilot in his pod & ship and use the station services by Neocom if you want to get quickly to marketing etc., and to transfer in the pod into other ships if you want, but to have a new command "leave pod" that allows you to enter the Captain's Quarters. This would then show the decanting process and be consistent with existing canon.

You're not going to have to sit through a video every time you dock, no. As for the canon changing to account for the quick transition, all I can say is: "nanites."
As you'll be appearing on the balcony when you dock, you'll be able to see the pod nearby, so what happens during that brief transition is up to your imagination! :)

Not mine but a link to a site with summary and links to the recording in there.
Got to listen to first few minutes before I had to leave for work =(.
All sounds good, I like that you are going through some content and patching and making sure it's all filled out. However I think this needs to be done much much more than it currently is. We need more high quality content and more of it rather than new content. I'm seeing a massive sea of content that was introduced with plans to add, improve or even fix later on but most of it is just being left there and becoming useless dead weight in the eve universe. Eve right now is looking a lot like a minmatar ship, it's awesome and cool but it's covered in rust.
oh and just picking on this cause I spent a long time running mining missions to work up my standing with Minmatar. Copy paste of % mission type given from eve wiki, guess which % is mining missions.
Mining 41.06% 23.85% 27.75% 7.34%
My own records show it somewhat higher but still less than 2 thirds of missions from mining agents are mining missions. ------------------------------ God is an afk cloaker |

Not sure what that has to do with the dev blog since those numbers are player-provided, not dev. I am looking forward to the reworking of divisions. I am disappointed however on the flat out "no" to mission selection being weighted by corp of the agent. More faction missions for Navy agents would mean shaking up mission hubs and encouraging people to move to less used agents.

Is this going to happen every time we dock? Can you see yourself jumping out of your car at every stop light? I know that's not an analogy; nonetheless, that's what it will feel like. ...

First of all sorry for any misspellings.
About the immersion project: I have already asked in the ingame-chat CCP Abraxas about a picture. Because I wanted to know, how the pages on evelopedia will look, like for example: will the background:#3e3d45 or more #222 (like in evegate)?... At that time he hadn¦t a pic.
I asked because, I have rework some articles, but I have the fear that it will be in the end useless (Current work)
So my question is... can CCP give a example (a page or a pic) of how it will look in the end? (so maybe I can rework some stuff add more or delete something etc... like CCP it will)

The "procedure" involves a six pack of Heineken and a weary dev sitting down after a day's work typing, pausing, editing, playing, typing, pausing, editing, playing...
The only "test" here is the resolve of said Dev.
...and on that note, this may take an extra day (or two). I didn't realize quite how long this one was, or how fast Big Dumb Object can speak post-caffeine.
Blame the circadian rhythm. Or something (Heineken).

Somehow I thought the immersion project was supposed to increase immersion. Docking is something we will do several times in a typical session. Having something we see over and over left so poorly described is not immersive. Surely, CCP, you can do better than "nanites", or make it up ourselves? (Actually I'm quite willing to make it up myself, as long as you are willing to declare what I came up with as Canon).

CCP, I understand that there are reasons that you can't/didn't want to answer specific questions about Sleepers, but, if I may ask, why is it that you guys can't/didn't discuss sleepers? If we're just not asking the right questions, or if they're too specific, please give us a clue. If nanites are seriously the clue, please confirm this for us.

Hi Cornwalace, the 'nanites' thing wasn't a clue or subtle hint, it was simply a joke made before the broadcast started in the chat channel.
We actually had an abundance of questions ready to go that we didn't get to - this ran 90 minutes as it was- including a group of questions on the Sleepers. The fact remains that had we gotten to those questions, there is little concrete info that could be revealed, beyond mentioning that some of the more mysterious aspects of EVE's lore will factor in to the next novel to some degree.
I don't want you to think those questions were ignored but, as I said, there are some deep/mysterious aspects of EVE's lore that couldn't have been addressed fully in the Live Dev Blog.
