Edited by: Roxanna Kell on 12/03/2011 15:33:14 How many people stopped palying eve as often as usual because of World of tanks?
I say this cause a few eve palyers are in my clan, and i my self havent done anything in eve besides training skills since january.
We all love fighting games, generations of violance and action movies, and thats what wot seems to bring, and lots of it. that, and less waiting around, less doing crappy tasks to get weapons...etc and 2top it all. you aim and shoot your self, not some stupid skills that take forever, sometimes years. but the best of it all, is no politcs :D. i know right? who would have thought.
Flame away

If only it was not instanced and had some actual dept it might be worth a try.
I rather play a single player game over it. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The question is, how long will you find it interesting before going back to EVE almost exclusively ?

I always sort of left and came back to eve, but every time i took a longer and longer break, and palyed less and less on the coming back part.
I think eve has seen better years. as for WOt, it has clan battles on full release. yes its instanced. but its about battles, not building empire like its real life. Dept is good, but dept also = ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Well, Eve has been pretty low on my games list for ~6 months already. Changing skills and turning on my PI factories every now and then to make some easy ISK for GTCs is pretty much everything I'm doing here. In the same time I am spending quite a lot of my spare time playing WoT - and enjoying it. So I guess that makes me one of those who switched their spaceships for tanks

for me it was few months. played pretty hardcore got into a panther and maxed out, when the soft wipe hit I got a maus, got kinda bored pretty shortly after that.
tbh the thing that killed it the most for me was whenever you launched the updater it killed your internet connection for like 30 seconds. plus the matches got really stale

Do you make use of a Homeplug adapter? I mean this in a completely serious non-homoerotic manner.

game is still in beta, there are clan tournaments. for that competetive edge. company battles, clan wars coming out too. normal battles are jsut for leveling up.
and yes the maus is not the most fun tank to play with now is it? Slow as hell.
if you got good people playing it with you and using proper tactics, the game wont get boring.
but if you only play on public battles, than lol.

Well ... when I looked at the WoT web site and watched some of the videos ... it pretty much looked like a shooter with everyone running around in tanks. The thing is ... tanks rarely engage each other at point blank range - and that's all this was. Computer games just have inherent problems with ranged combat.
The other thing is - I'm more interested in persistent games like Planetside or EVE or WWII Online where there is an ongoing effort by large groups of people to accomplish things than a bunch of individuals just running around shooting each other.
As with the BattleField games ... it seems to mostly be about individuals just playing with different weapons than large groups (in the hundreds) working toward common goals.
All that is fine if that's what you like - but - that's not what I'm into so after looking at what they had I passed on it.
It did have nice graphics though.
When I want a break from EVE I go play Planetside.
*shrug*

I frequently stop playing EVE for a bit of BC2, CoX and Go.
Why do people on this forum keep thinking that if you play EVE you don't play anything else?

This is a bit like CCP releasing videos of battles that look so good, yet in game they look crap.
its called a marketing video.
In real wot, especially in company battles and such, tehre is a lot of sniping from 500 meters.

I played wot a lot when It came out. But given that FPS games like BFBC2 let you drive armoured vehicles wot has less scope.

Because they can't bear to have their 7 year old characters idleing and not skilling up? I might not be playing atm but I'm still training. Far too many level 5 still to go.

WoT is a great game that doesn't require much in the way of upkeep once you have the tanks you want to drive.
EVE is a great game that doesn't require much in the way of upkeep except to keep skill queue topped off.
.... why not play both? ♥

Well if they market something as a point blank range shooter - what are people to think it is?
Actually ... 500 meters is pretty close but ... *shrug* it's farther than in Planetside. I can't remember about WWII Online ... that game was so buggy I ... just didn't play it enough to really spend much time in the tanks.
I assume you've got some good telescopic sights.
I saw how the artillery worked. I guess there's no infantry though.

They said they want to add infantry in the same way that CCP wanted to add Incarna/Ambulation/Walking In Stations 5 years ago, that is, they have no idea if they ever will but it would be cool if it happened.

As far as I understand World of tanks is just another FPS. And the only special about it being an MMOG.
I loathe FPS and usually anything ascociated with WASD!

It's a good little game, for when you have just 20 mins free for a quick battle. WOT strkes me as an opportunity lost. The Clan/Campaigne battles seems to have been cobbled together as an afterthought and so the gameplay will still stay as a shallow quick blast game.
It's a shame realy, had it been done right from the start we could have seen another game able to match the drama of the Delve war as player clans clash for the best resource regions

I think both of these quotes say it best. WoT isn't even out of Beta yet and after 2 weeks of solid play, I am all tanked out.
Its so amazingly obvious that WoT is setup to try and get you to spend money via microtransactions that its silly.
Spend gold in game, that after beta you can get with RL cash, and then spend the gold on 'better' ammo... LOL. Yes, they know your little tank fired 10 tens at the big boy tank and the only messages you heard were, "We just dinged 'um" and "That one didnt even go through." and then the big boy tank fired once and you died.
Introduce frustration into a game that can be somewhat alleviated "if you just give us a bit of cash" so you can train faster and get into the big boy tank faster then you too can own the other tanks.....
Taking advantage of human psychology for profit. LoLz.

I have 5500 battles on that game, once you learn it, you wont whine so much about being dinged. Gold ammo usually adds a little bit better penetration. I mean the game is free, if you pay around 10$ a month wish is less than eve, you will have more gold ammo than you can shoot. One thing i grew to hate, is people being *****y about a game thats completly utterly free. If you played eve for 1 year, thats 150$ at least, x 5 years to some.
There s going to be conquest warfare, isntanced once the game is out, but at least instance means, you wont be over blobed, and fighting comes down to skill, tacic, planning.
not who got more ships. and less lag. plus company battles where clans fight on all the time, not to mention the regular competetions. Wot its onyl boring if all you do is paly random battles in public..

Actually no.
EVE, with its instanced free PVP actually do need skill, tactic and planning. Becuse the concequenses of what you do are so very real (real for ingame that is).
Do you suck at planning? Too bad, now you lost. Do you know how to hold an alliance togehter and being able to to formulate decent plans? Success, now you killed off your enemy. And since its all live on teh same server, it has real effects on teh people playing on the servere, amking your actions actually mean somthing.
An instance is just pathetic in comaprison.
