DEVBLOG
Duality on Evelopedia
This week we will open up a new semi-public test server called Duality. The focus of this new test server will be events, such as mass-tests and CCP-coordinated public play-tests.
A few important things you should know about Duality:
Duality will be running database mirrors from Tranquility, just like Singularity does. Duality will NOT be accessible to the players all the time. Outside of organized testing events we will keep Duality in VIP mode, for internal testing only. If you use Duality, make sure that you make a separate client install for it. There is no account reactivation support for Duality at the moment, but this is something we're working on for the future. There is no combat system on Duality.

So, does this mean that you will stop Mass Tests on Sisi?

We aim to have mass tests on Duality instead of Singularity in the future and use Singularity for ongoing public testing.

basically yes. They will still exist just on their own special server thats only gonna be online for specific things, the free sp rewards and bans for disrupting the testing will still be applied to singularity though.
Edit: i fail for not typing fast enough, Oneiromancer beat me to the answer ________________________________________________

Edited by: Graegori Hauss on 15/03/2011 14:18:40 So basically we have to waste another 8 GB of space just so they can have a separate server for mass tests?
Gee, thanks CCP. It's not like I wanted to use that disk space for something else like music or movies or, god forbid, other games. |

Will this mean another install of the eve client? Or will you change the Sisi updating tool so we can amend the Test Server installation to either Sisi or Ducie as we require?

Originally by: CCP Hypnotic Things like the weekly mass tests, or guided play tests will, in the future, happen on Duality with much better coordination and preparation than what was capable on Singularity in the past.
This is good news I think, though it will take another chunk of harddrive space like above posters pointed out. On the other hand, what's 8GB these days..
I hope this means it will be easier to patch and get on in time for mass-testing.

- Followed all the steps in the Evelopedia page - No autopatch when trying to log in (status incompatible (release) - The "Download TQ to Duality Patch" doesn't download.
I guess it is still early and not all pieces are yet in place. Let us know when we the patch is ready so we can update our third EvE installation.

I would assume Duality will be running the same version as Singularity, in which case all you need is a different shortcut with /server:Duality key appended. Well, and you might need to clear the cache. If not, chances are it still won't be that different, so you can probably get away with DucieLauncher.exe patching Sisi client for the duration of the mass test, then SisiLauncher.exe patching it back afterwards.
Duality will be inaccessible most of the time, so there's no real need to keep a separate installation for it the whole time. Besides, honestly, eight gigs isn't the end of the world. I've got 20+ gigs of just Eve screenshots alone, and i'm just a bitter hater vet.
Although it does irk me somewhat that a big chunk of those 8 gigs is Incarna-related resources. Would be kinda nice if all the Carbon stuff could just be installed separately, once, by those who care about it, and ignored by those who don't. I've re-created my avatar and don't plan to walk in stations a whole lot, so three copies of that content do feel like somewhat of a waste of space. Especially in the TQ client, those files currently have no purpose whatsoever.
Also, whatever happened to Multiplicity? Wasn't it supposed to have more or less the same purpose?

Edited by: Mikal Morataya on 16/03/2011 19:36:47 I have tried creating a new client for this, and installing the TQ > Duality patch and it seemed to install the required stuff, yet when I run my short cut for Duality, its still coming up "incompatible version" with no autopatch option?

Yes, this is something that we're working on.
Duality is currently running the same build as Singularity, so you should be fine with copying the install and changing the server IP in the shortcut. In the future it will likely run a different build from Singularity, but patches from the TQ build will be available.

Newsitem: Linkage Frequently updated thread in GD: Linkage As for a patch - read CCP Oneiromancer posted right above you. There is no special patch for Duality. A copy of a working Sisi client and a change in the shortcut will suffice.

Well, then the instructions on the Duality EVElopedia page are incorrect, as it says to copy the TQ client, not the Sisi client.

It is correct. Duality just *happens* to run the same built as Sisi, which makes it easier to just copy the sisi folder, at the moment.
Most of the times, the Sisi and the Duality build will be different and you should be patching with a Duality-patch from a copy of the TQ folder.

After my rant on another thread yesterday I got Duality set up and working. But do you have any idea how long it will be b4 the "Character Stuck, please choose another Character or try again later" will be fixed when logging into the regular Singularity? Thanks

We are looking into the issue of systems and characters getting stuck, this is happening on both Singularity and Duality.

Okay, finally a response from CCP. But perhaps, since this issue is so far-reaching, widespread, and completely screws the player trying to use the test server(s), it deserves its own thread? Such things can be stickied for the duration, and then unstickied when resolved. (Prerequisites: Requires Poasting 5 and Forum Management 3.)
