Refuelling POSes is just moving RASTER pictures (again, no 3D required at all, doable on map screen) from one container to another. I'd offend your intelligence if I'd say that chatting would require Shader Model 3.0, ain't it?
Said so, what part of "activities that don't require high end graphics" you seem to not understand?
At home I have a machine that happily supports SM4.0, so I'm not complaining about CCP preventing me from playing. But stripping me of a convenience, without any real reason to do so.
Even in 2011, there ARE situations where a low-end output would be desirable, if possible, in addition to the "oooh shiny" one used to sell accounts.
In my original post I started with "Ok, CCP, nice move and all". I'm not complaining for the sake of it. I'm complaining for the rather lame excuse ("8 years old" is a deceiving statement - proven wrong by many other postsers, myself included), and intentionally and unreasonably reduction of game options. That's all.
I agree with Katrina.
Unfortunately I think there're only about 12 people in the world that might agree with us and none of them are in charge of video game development.
I wish there were more options in EVE (and other games) to not display graphics. I've seen the benefits of less graphics in many good games in many ways.
I can only assume the reason developers refuse to allow the turning off of graphics is it's an easy way to draw a line on what systems the game will run on. Doing this restricts the variety of systems the company has to support and so creates fewer phone calls and e-mails to deal with.
It's also easier to not add another option. No matter how simple it is to add a check box to turn off the rendering of a model it does take some time to code the option into the client and into the game.
We should be grateful we can at least turn off drone models and a few other effects in EVE.
I don't suppose CCP might add gamma control? I hate having to wear my sunglasses inside a nebula or near a star. == Support fixing the EVE UI |
