Edited by: Kovorix on 30/03/2011 02:25:28 Edited by: Kovorix on 30/03/2011 02:18:01 Hey all. Was waiting for the new forums, but I got impatient and decided I don't really care... So here goes:
LINKY
I am aware that direct download doesn't seem to be working, so let me know if you can't use torrents and need me to upload it again.
Length: 18:26 Format: .mkv Resolution: 1680x1050 Size: 986mb Ships Featured: Tempest, Maelstrom, Dominix (not the one you think, though)
This movie features 100% pure solo action, all located in low-sec. No T3 booster alts, no scout alts, ect. ect. (I do cheat with fancy crystal implants, though)
The Story:
I reactivated my account about a month ago after about a year away. I thought a great way shake the rust off would be to work on a solo video project. The name of the video reflects the period of time between the first and last scene - 17 days.
DISCLAIMER: I don't consider myself to be an extremely good pvp pilot! I make tons of mistakes and while I probably have noticed most of them, any constructive advice is appreciated. And although it's not really shown in the movie, I'd just like to mention I lost a TON of ships in stupid and boring ways, thoroughly decimating my wallet... Just don't want to mislead anyone there. :P
Soundtrack:
FLYING LOTUS - Cosmic Drama/Zodiac **** DAFT PUNK - Around the World/Harder Better Faster Stronger (Live) FLYING LOTUS - Table Tennis/Galaxy in Janaki SPECIFICS - The Beach of Life

The video was very cool . I love to watch Maelstrom, Tempest and Dominix videos. This is also the first time I see an active shield dominix, very cool, it sure melted some drakes. Also, what was that cynabal pilot thinking at the end of that fight?

Sorry about that guys, I thought they were okay but it's always hard to tell for the person making the video. I will certainly be putting them near the center of the screen in my next video, a la Prozacxx.

Haha I can tell he was thinking "Oh Sh** he's about to go down, lemme get close to maximize damage" but that obviously was a stupid idea no matter the case. It's amazing how many vaga/cynabal pilots make these types of mistakes though.
Thanks for all the kind words, guys.

I'll gladly tell you a third time that your video is great ;P
As for the comments: I think that they would be easier to notice if they just appeared instead of fading in and out slowly. The human eye gets attracted to movement and change, so a sudden change should do the trick. The fact that no one complained about my comments during the last two videos seems to support that.

I didnt like the music, but you can't argue about taste I guess.
The PvP was a nice watch, but I have one question: Is there a special reason you wait until you are almost in structure to activate the shield booster?

In my Maelstrom I do this when I know I can tank everything on the field, but want to appear weak in order to keep everone from warping off. Bait tanking, it's called.

Honestly that's probably mostly negligence, but again when my hps drop faster because of lack of resists, I look weaker than I really am. Also I like overheating the booster over the invuln because of the shorter cycle time.

I really liked it, even if I facepalmed at few times at the heat/tank management. Overloading the invuln is usually on the long run because it generates a lot less heat.
Great stuff. ____________________________________________

so that the people who are shooting him think they have a chance of killing him. If he was running his tank full blast they would quickly realize they have no chance of breaking it and **** off. If they see him in structure they're going to stick around.

if you have an SBA fit (as you seem to on the mael) heating the booster will generate twice as much heat as it otherwise would. Another good reason to heat the invuln instead.

Ah, I figured it would be something like that, but it's nice to have a confirmation.
I would be interested in a short overview of what you lost and killed in those few days (I could probably look you up at battleclinic for that, but I dont know if you post everything there). Just interested in some general numbers to see what you can kill (and loose) in that time, since I didnt manage to find more than two fights during one week of roaming lowsec, and everyone in these videos seems to get at least a few decent fights in between ganks and being ganked.
Thanks in Advance.

Well my old videos are the same style - all solo pvp in BC and BS. My first, Battlecry, features largely dual-rep domi action with some cyclone stuff. I believe it's pre-dominion. The second, Riot, is mostly cyclone with some hurricane and 1 hype scene. The text is totally unreadable and horrible so it's difficult to tell whats going on.
Honestly, I don't think either are nearly as good as this video and probably wont be worth downloading if you have limited bandwidth.

Well, it has a lot to do with luck. And roaming around low-sec in an unscouted battleship like me is a horrible idea if you have any interest in keeping your wallet level. I would say, on average, if I play for 3-4 hours I would typically lose 1 ship to some circumstance, but would usually get 1 manageable fight as well. But of the manageable fights, many are boring or I just plain f-ed them up.
Overall the judgment that low-sec is dead for solo pvp is pretty inaccurate in my opinion. However, I also think you almost have to roll in a battleship in order to get good fights. The majority of gangs are BCs - typically hurricanes/drakes (as demonstrated in the video ) - and are pretty much un-engagable with anything smaller. Nobody flies the cruiser gangs of old, so you need to be able to take on multiple BC+. You might be successful in a frigate, but I don't have experience with that.
As far as getting fights - it's often just luck. But things like pretend-pirating (as in the 2nd domi fight) can up your chances. Just pick a route through inhabited but not overcrowded low-sec - 10 and under in a system is preferable - and make up some trouble when there's a couple people in the same corp in a system.
