Greetings Forum goers.
Tired of clicking through all those intel gathering websites looking for info on pilots or systems.
E(ve)-(In)Tell does what it says on the tin!
Solar System: -Jovelabs -Trends (on jovelabs) -WH Statics -Dotlan -databased -Battleclinic -Eve-kill
Pilot: -Battleclinic -Eve-kill -Eve-search (posts by) -Eveboard -Eve-Gate
Project home: (Source code available) etell.codeplex.com
Direct Download: http://etell.codeplex.com/releases/view/63624#DownloadId=223025
Virus Total: (100% clean)

Screenshot: http://lookpic.com/c1/i2/3497/AtQ78eAu.png
Usage: Type in the name of a system or a pilot and then click on the links that you want to checkout. If you want to open all the links at once, just hit enter.
Suggestions and criticism welcome.
Peace,
Ef.

Good day, Efraya:
The installation went cleanly; and the concept is extremely good.
If there was a way to collect all of the data, and then drill down, that would be cool. Hitting enter is easy, but then when it opens a lot of browser tabs, then hunting through them can be a pain; and if you are like me with multiple browsers open (for organizational purposes), and happen to have focus on say your "work browser" then things get messy visually.
I'm not sure of the best solution -- whether it has its own GUI or it opens up a completely new browser window (then opens tabs in that new browser -- or at least has the option to do so) or creates a HTML page on its own that allows you to drill down (that would probably be the best) into the other sites.
Good job to start!
Thank you.

Thanks for taking a look Mara.
It will spawn the tabs in the default browser. If it's already open it will add them to the already open tabs. I appreciate that if you have many tabs open already, it's like WTF, more tabs!
The concept you put forward of opening 1 page with links to the subsequent pages is already implemented, you just need to click on the individual links that you want to have a look at.
I want to keep this as simple as possible as I don't have a massive amount of development time available to make this into a full blown Intel suite. The work of other devs at their respective site's is gui enough for me!
Thanks for your feedback.
Ef.

Scraping data from websites without having permissions is likely not tolerated and will end in funny situations (like providing fake data or fakemails instead of the data you would expect).

Edited by: Etil DeLaFuente on 29/04/2011 20:04:02 Hi Efraya,
feel free to have a look here Eve Intel.
I remade your tool so it can use search providers as plugins and displays results inside the application. It would make your application lot more flexible and anyone could make providers.
I used WPF for the UI, but the most important part is MEF, which provides the ability to use search providers as plugins very easily.
You'll need VS2010 to build and test the app.
I hope it'll help you make E-Tell even better.
ps : Your Codeplex link is broken btw

Edited by: Efraya on 03/05/2011 12:30:02 Hello Etil,
Glad too see that I have sparked your creative juices and I appreciate the effort you've made in reworking the tool.
Unfortunately, I don't have VS2010 :(
I went to check your codeplex page and I can only find the source code listing, no completed application for me to check out.
You aren't the first person to request that information is pulled from community sites into the application. I don't wish to do this as I want to drive traffic towards these fantastic sites, and not just leech their content.
I'm currently in work, but I will try and check out the solution into vs2008.
I am interested in working in WPF but haven't had a chance to do so yet. I will certainly check it out.
Thanks,
Ef.

You can get Visual Studio 2010 Express for free if this helps.

I'll make an exe for you to try. The UI is really basic, only meant to show how plugins based app is working. I can't convert it to vs2008 unfortunately since the app cannot use earlier .net version than 4.0.

Plugins only return a formatted url, so you just have to use that url for the integrated browser (IE engine) which displays the site. It's working exactly the same way as your application, only thing is instead of built-in providers, there are plugins. Each provider is represented by a project. The assembly compiled is then loaded at runtime if found in the correct directory. You then can add more providers without touching anything in your main application.

You can find lots of examples around the web. I'd recommend you first msdn examples and some articles on codeproject. I'm not sure my app will be the best to start with. And don't waste your time with expression tools, it's crap imo

Wow, that is seriously smooth.
Eve Intel > Etell :(
Only criticism I have, the search button is disabled and you have too tab out of the pilot box to click on it. Annoying.
I take it that is an "Web Browser" control in the "Main body"?

Happy you like it, i won't maintain it tho, just here for you :)
The search button "Enabled" property is bound to the textbox text value and combox selected value. The first one only fires a validation event when it loses focus. You can change that behavior by settings the OnPropertyChanged event instead of Validation event in the binding property. As soon as something is typed in the textbox, event is fired which will make the search button enabled.
Yes the main control is the built-in web browser control using the Internet Explorer engine. I saw a .net version of the Webkit engine if you prefer.

If you feel that my measly application is "Infringing" on your IP, feel free to ban my toons. Will be a shame, but I'm happy to make a stand over this.

I believe that is only for people that want to charge $ for their apps. If you are not intending to make a profit (which would infringe their IP) you probably need not worry.

Nice idea Efraya. It would be cool though it grabbed information from different sources and put it together somehow. The hard part is not finding the information, it's making something useful of it. Would be really nice with an app that could help with that.

They do, besides you can block their spiders from your site with a simple piece of code, that they provide...
