EVE Online: Incursion 1.4 will be deployed Tuesday April 5 during an extended downtime. Tranquility will be taken offline at 09:00 UTC and is expected to return to service at 15:00 UTC. Incursion 1.4 introduces new features to EVE Online, such as new DED complexes, more locations for avatar portraits, the new forums (on Wednesday), and many other highly anticipated features you can read about here. Patch notes will be available soon.

Once more, CCP doesn't listen to its community... WE ARE WHO PAID FOR THIS GAME...
Sad, really sad... i dont want a great looking game.. i want a fun game. LAG is so bad in major fleet battles that you cant even load grid... What about that??? ALL you care is nerfing the good and fun things on eve and not fixing the REAL issues.

I'm usually the first one to ball bust over lag, but they have made huge leaps and bounds over the last week. The new hardware would likely be a key part of this.
Had a 500 man fight 2 nights ago, it was completely lag free, and I even had turret effects turned on.
As far as the over zealous use of nerf bats... I concur.

To anyone who's experiencing lag since january, seemingly out of nowhere; Please visit the known issues section of the forum, some amazing advice and insite(and trolling) is provided. Look at the deny cache character writing(particularly the new portraits) something about disk drives and storing every person you meets picture starts to kill your seek/read/write times, and depth effects in particular.
As for the new hard-ware.... I'm still fappiiiiing so cloooosee....

By 6 hours downtime, to implement a few missing plexes, they of course mean INSHALLAH!!!!
It only took em half a decade to get to polish DED plexes, at this rate I might be able to introduce my grandchildren to a decent Faction War system before they are off to conquer their stake of Mars.
No but seriously. I never thought it possible to encounter a company that sucks more than GOA (French, used to run the European DAOC servers).

Quick question... Is this the update where you can change your portrait at any station for free - or is that adding in later?

Dude, Warhammer was mostly Mythic's screw up, not GOA's. In DAOC however it was entirely GOA.

Edited by: Kuni Wah on 01/04/2011 16:42:26 Are any of the updates in this patch going to stop those with non shader 3 set-ups logging back in after it?
(Yes i know this is the date that anything less than S3 is no longer supported so this isnt a complaint, more a heads-up to any others like myself who are in the process of upgrading their rig.)

Please, give us the option to disable portrait loading. Or at least have it automatically disable if a system is over a certain number of people. Granted, it's probably pulling them from a different server, but even so, do you really want to be having 500 people load a portrait every time someone jumps into Jita or every time an FC calls a target?

"Improved Quality/Risk Scaling in Anomalies"
Lol
How about Quality/Risk Scaling in Missions and make every L4 that happens in high-sec spawn no battleship rats (or maybe a token few like the new anom system). I mean, its obviously a problem if all the missioners stay in the same space, no competition and all that.
I'm NC but I don't rat for my isk, this is still very silly that you all haven't reconsidered this decision. It wont make smaller alliances able to get off the ground in 0.0- because they wont be able to make any isk, and any of the 'decent' systems will be quickly controlled by either our macro friends from the motherland, or the NC.

Sounds like I may need to set even more cache folders as read only. :S The small portraits for local is no longer going to be enough. I freakin' hate portraits so bad lately.

Edited by: Serenity 159080 on 01/04/2011 18:22:50 Wow, where is the love? Players have spent years complaining about the small things in EVE that just annoy the hell out of you, and now CCP are fixing them, and players complain that they don't care.
Originally by: XFluke Once more, CCP doesn't listen to its community... WE ARE WHO PAID FOR THIS GAME...

Good point, we do pay for the game, but they are the ones that create it, so I guess without a little of both there would be no game. Also it might be good to remember that this is not your person game, that other people play it and appreciate the changes.
As for lag, yep thats a killer. However the dev blogs linked above give good information on why lag is something that can never be removed from the game, just minimised, as shown by the increasing cap on the Jita population.
Originally by: Ramingo By 6 hours downtime, to implement a few missing plexes, they of course mean INSHALLAH!!!!
As you most likely do not have technical knowledge of the CCP servers and software, then I would say it might be difficult to say what is and is not a long deployment time. However with the changes made to EVE recently, downtime has been reduced substantially, so if they need to take a little extra time for deployment to make sure everything works, thats fine with me.
Originally by: Arth Lawing Figured out how to install stone age, freely availible forums. Missing DED plex's we didn't bother doing from years ago added. Other Crap. Many hours offline.
And again, I am sure CCP apologise that EVE is not your personaly customised game with all the features you want.
As for me, I am quite happy with the way that CCP are moving, they have a long way to go, but are getting there. Server upgrades, staggered release of Incursion, and refocusing on updating old content, all good stuff. But you have to ask yourself, would you want CCP to dedicate an entire expansion just to fixing old content, without bringing out anything new? I think a balance of both is good.
Serenity
An after thought, a devblog on the recent server problems would be nice, just to fully explain the issues that have been occuring.

oh and i know its a late late hour to bring this up, but you realize that if you are relying on DED sites to make up for the loss in anomoly income.... well you do realize that the RUS/EU players will have them all run long before nay US player logs in to even begin probing right? i mean you have thought these out and taken that into account? oh wait nm, this is ccp we are talking about, of course you haven't.

What you're not getting here is that for the handful of these things that are actually improvements (and not just adding extra lag for reduced functionality), the few minor things that might help the game (I count about 4-5) in no way, shape, or form, justify the fact that team "hair up it's ass" is ****ing over 0.0. In fact it's bad enough that if the 0.0 cluster-hump isn't removed from this half-assed thrown-together patch, it completely de-legitimizes CCP and will likely kill the game. Team "do whatever we want with no oversight" has already lost legitimacy for even thinking of the stupid idea and for their obstinacy over it. They need to be moved to project "no way an idiot could screw it up" and get a team that actually plays the game to work on game play issues.

Edited by: Drunk ****** on 01/04/2011 18:42:35 The simplest thing this patch is gonna do is reduce ccp's income, so i dont think the anomolie changes will last long...
Think it through. I have 6 accounts, I spend 4 or 5 days of the month doing sanctums/havens in order to afford the plex cards for those 6 accounts. The rest of the month is split between pvp and making isk to replace the pvp ships.
Remove the sanctums, and well, I might be able to afford 1 or 2 plex a month from ratting so you lose 4 accounts due to me not able to afford all 6 plex each month.
May not seem like much, but 400,000 subs, say 50% of them will be affected by this change, and 50% of them pay by ingame, going by my loss of income of 4 out of 6. Means you lose 66,000 accounts worth of isk per month. 66,000 x $15 = $990,000 lost income for ccp. wonder if your financial adviser pointed this out to you...

yeah stop blobbing then. only way to fix lag permanently.
do agree that the change on anoms is a bit kneejerked tho, and the new forums aren't really that great. ---

How many obsticals are left before all down time created items like DED sites, FW plexes, mining belts, and other stuff can be generated in game per rules that can be tweaked?
Once these sites are unlocked from the downtime mechanic the happier everyone will be.

to be fair, I do like some of these
Server-side ship fittings, the mass repackaging, that bookmark thing (don't know what they called it), being able to strip a ship without getting in it and the default squad commander thing.
Also nice was the fixing the guristas jamming business... but they are effectively removing anoms from most of 0.0, so that doesn't matter much.
CCP had to have known that most residents of 0.0 would be upset as hell about the anom changes, and the fact that they decided to do it anyway- and then ignore the threads about it tells a lot about how much they really care about us out here. But hey! loot logging is enabled by default now so that more than makes up for it... right guys? (Oh wait, it was already that way once everyone hit the little check box they so thoughtfully provided)

From what I understood, when CCP ignore the players you complain, and now that they are doing what players have asked for and improving the quality of the game you also don't like that.
To respond more fully to you, please could you list the changes and in which way they will increase lag while decreasing functionality so that I can understand where you are coming from.
It would also be useful if you could link to some of your forums posts where you propose your ideas for how to improve EVE, I can read them and understand what features you would like to see instead of what CCP are releasing.

i think he is refering to the factthat your screwing large swathes of 0.0 while making botting more attractive, and rewarding the largest collection of botters in the game. oh and btw, lag wont be fixed until fighterbombers/supercarriers are fixed. as soon as they drop their 3000 drakes on the field the system is screwed.
