I know you have all played this game alot and so you have become used to it and you accept it as is...
But ffs, skills take SOOOOOO LOOOONG to get to lvl 4s in 5s especially on the higher up stuff. It really makes the game a snail race, I can make isk to buy ships and modules way faster then I can skill for them.
I have 21m sp and that only seems like a drop in the bucket. O look javelin torps, that looks cool my raven has crappy torp range, 25day skill for lvl 5.... are you f***en kidding me? Why do I have to wait a month for just one skill...I can see a week at the most but a month? And why do implants cost so much but don't really increase the speed all that much nor are they better ones then +5'ers
I'm sure alot of you will tell give me alot of intelligent reasons explanations why, but I've played alot of mmo's and other games and the way this one is set up, as awesome as it may be, is one of the most slowest paced as far as character/account progression I've ever played.
So much more to say on the subject but whats the point? no one from ccp is going to read this and even if they did they wouldn't care. They are just greedy just like most other mmo game company's. Design a attractive game and update it full of new things that take forever to get to, prolonging progression to get to really what you want out of the game ( with in the realm they designed.
"Then don't play" I bet will be the first post but really dood, when you this far invested into it, there is no turning back.
I'm just venting,
but It just really grinds my gears u know?...

Problem is there is no static "progression," in this game at all. You make your own goals and see them through. Yes, there is a baked-in delay to climbing up the percieved isk-grinding ladder to peak isk/hr efficiency. But ask yourself this first: Why do you want that isk? Why do you want to run those missions? What determines the progress you have made?
I think you'll find those answers are going to involve circular reasoning.

I've been preaching this same stuff for a long time. After years of work I still can't fly these or use those. It just sucks tbh and I wish someone would have told me earlier. Just pay and pay and, well, for what. It all just feels overwhelming.

Edited by: Maximillian Dragonard on 03/04/2011 10:37:25 I hate to break it to you, but the goal of any company, game companies included, is to make money..... EVERY mmorpg has some form of grind to it, just be thankful that you don't have to spend hours on end beating some poor rat to death just to up that skill one level.
I always come back to Eve for the same reason.. I'm too damn old, with too many responsibilities, to spend my time grinding for a skill for the next shiny. I log on when I want, for as long as I want, and do what I want. If I want to pve, I do so. If I want to pvp, I do so. If I run out of isk, I'll either mission, do exploration, or sell a plex or 4, the choice is MINE. Freedom.... what a concept

One MMO I played had infinite levels. Every level was 2x the points of the previous.
Where most people were level 6-9 in a skill, a few people that macroed daily for years were level 20+ in that skill.
The biggest downside was that it encouraged macroing, which also wasn't enforced.

I think the main reason is to keep people interested. You can see it both as a strength and as a weakness. One the one hand it's nice if you finally get that skill and it keeps people interested longer, on the other hand it apparently means CCP thinks the game content isn't interesting enough to keep people interested for that reason alone.
Also, apparently ISK is far too easy to make so that can't be the bottleneck. I also made billions in my 1st months and I still can't fly half the ships I bought back then.
Well concluded: apparently EVE is a game where it takes 2+ years to decently fly and fit a decent range of ships.

Considering that most players are in the same situation it tends to shake out in most combat situations (and pve outside of high class WH can be done with pididdle for skillpoints). It's a little worst on some ships (minmatar ships obviously require a lot more training than others, for example), but most of the time your utility slots are otherwise occupied (neuts) anyway.
Also, if ISK really wasn't an issue players would flock to the bazaar to trade up. I don't think that many newbs are pulling in the 20bil necessary to purchase a well trained 50m+ sp character within their first few months. I could be wrong about that, but I think the generalization that isk is much easier to come by than sp is a little illusory. Getting the first billion is easy. Getting another billion or more than 10 is tough unless you're a very dilligent industrialist/trader/missioner.
The way I see it, eve is all about finding a nice balance between efficiency and pure isk-burning amusement. If I didn't have to consider my skillpoints or my costs i'd just be playing the spaceship equivalent of an fps.

Forces you to get more than 1 toon
Once you get over the hump. With having all T2 Ships trained with logi 5 and recon 5 plus all racial cruisers trained to 5 and all t2 weapons trained. Alright, maybe none of the caldari stuff or hybrids You will be happy.

Do you have 20 million SP in science or something?
I'm in a similar boat as you and I can fly AF, t3, Marauders, HACs, recon/logi for caldari and AF, T3, HAC/recon/logi for amarr.
Oh and I can fire all the missiles except HAMs(incl capital cruise/torps) AND t2 large lasers.
Also I have great shield tanking and moderate armor tank skills.

Edited by: NovaCat13 on 04/04/2011 08:34:30 I for one can't stand for this outlandish idea! Level 5 is really only there for maximizing and for some pre-req stuff. Many T2 things open at lvl 4 which is VERY easy to reach compared to the jump to 5. EVE has a very unique progression system (not anymore, I know of at least 1 other mmo that has time based skills), I don't have to grind if I don't want to and I can be at ease knowing I'm still training just fine. I could just cruise and find some monoliths or some other random things in game that serves no other purpose than to say "neat," without ever having the nagging idea of, "man I should be webbing something, I needs me some webbing xp."
When I was in college (astrophysics major ie NO free time) I was happy knowing I can log in when I could but I wouldn't be hindered skill-wise to other players, I progress all the same. Plus, it's not about the destination but the journey, do I sound like a Harley ad?

Yeah it's almost as if the game is deliberately structured such that one person can't do everything perfectly.

Hey bro, I heard of this awesome spaceship shooter game where you set your own pace for how fast you train.
I also heard it has joystick support.

So what?
You control the rate at which you grind, if you want some really bad ass hull or weapon in BP you can get it as fast or slow as you want.
Thats what a lot of people want, and if you don't like that; "Lol, newb go back to Eve" and "lol, eve is that way" statements apply to you.
yea I totally wanna wait 1+ month for something in eve when I could grind for something similar in under 3-4 days in BP.
yea thats totally better, and better yet, why not I pay real life money to wait 2!!

Grinding is grinding and grinding = lame. And I agree lvl 4 is sufficient, lvl 5 is all about maximizing gains.

Not at all, NOT having to grind like mad to gain skills is something a lot of us are REALLY happy about and frankly the biggest reason i play this game. I have limited time to play due to work and marriage so.. for me knowing if i cant log in for say a week, my character is still getting better is a HUGE plus. Unlike say some other fantasy MMO i used to play.. back when i was single and not married to the best man EVER! :) (hiiii Matt).. where you had to spend hours hacking at a monster to get your skills up.. or spend hours mixing plants in bottles.. no thanks.. fine when you are in school and got tons of time.
