Is there a way to manage the skill learning queue outside of the game? I have a lot of 2 and 3 hour skills to train and it would be cool to change them around from my work without having to launch the game.

CCP don't want to be selling methadone.

they could quite easy do this with EVE Gate, but the question is will they? I would love this too. I know most ppl that play can just go home each night and log in to up date the queue. My problem is that i work away and cant always get internet access with my laptop. even when i can get access there are quite often firewalls that block you. theres also the problem when am on a ship with slow internet access, with downloading 1.5gig patches before logging in.
so yes if you live in a house with fast internet and home easy night t may seem lazy not to log in to update. but there are a lot of us that just cant do it. this is why a inter net based system using EVE Gate would really help us out.
for most ppl it would allow them to not miss out on a few hours training till they get home, (normally down to bad management of queue) but for the likes of military personal on operation, they can lose out on 6 months of training because there doing there bit for the country. have a heart CCP and help out these that can't always log in, we pay are money like the rest of them!

I'd like to have a temporary skill to dump points into that you can re assign later. like 'dummy can't log in this week skill' and make it the average of all stats or even lower than that for those times when you really can't log in. having it at lower skill points would help prevent abuse and keep players from losing a week or 3 of training time. there's not always a useful level v to dump skill points into that works. or maybe a way of adding a months que to skills. something simple that you could chain a level 4 and 5 skill together would be enough to make me happy. 2 ~ 3 days plus a 17 day after that would be great.

I'd love to see this too, or at least a longer training queue. I'm away 5 out of the 7 days a week. Currently I've got a load of my skills to 23 hours 59minutes, so I can then just dump a long skill on the end.
But then again, if there had been this years ago and I'd just gone AWOL from the game, I'd have a nice 400mil sp by now :P

He changed "unfortunately" to "fortunately", indicating that he considers it a good thing that we can not update skill queues from outside of game.

Apparently some people think freedom and flexibility is bad.

Is there a game design reason for not being able to queue skills offline?
When you go on holiday for a long weekend you can always train something to level 5 or somesuch.
But what about people who go on month-long absences with charities to 3rd world countries to install clean water pumping systems in remote villages and hand out condoms?
Or rescue workers who give up their internet access for weeks to dig Chileans out of collapsed mines?
Or Buddhist pilgrims who give up worldly luxuries to go on journeys of deep contemplation and introspection?
These people have enough to worry about without knowing, at the back of their minds, that their Eve characters are wilting from neglect. You're punishing them, CCP.

OP, you should enjoy this phase of the game, too soon comes a time when you will only have to log on every other week to change your skill.

You would still need an internet connection to do this out of game most likely. If you have that, then you might as well log into the game to change your skill |

Edited by: J Kunjeh on 08/07/2011 22:03:12 I think this would be a great feature to add to Eve Gate and the mobile app (when it comes). But if they do this, I think they should seriously consider also making skills train slightly faster when you're actually logged into the game, thereby incentivizing pilots to log in rather than just changing it all the time on their iPhone. |

From CCP hammer, in reference to the skill queue in EVE:
"Yes, we intend to put skill queue functionality and many other in-game features onto EVE Gate." |

Or those such as myself in the military who are currently overseas and have quite nearly the worst internet in the world and are unable to actually log into the game. Can't I manage my skills for the year that I am deployed? Guess not.

1) Several of my internet devices do not currently support the client (e.g. iPhone & iPad) Today's slashdot is 35% use their tablet in the bathroom, 78% in bed, and 30% at a restaurant.
2) I can go from a powered off iPad to a web page much, much faster than I can boot a PC or launch EVE, let alone both
3) If I am on account#1, I can update the skills of account#2 from a browser/mobile without docking, without waiting for EVE to logout and reenter.
4) I have recently tried internet in a couple of airplanes and a few airports. A browser is a much better idea than the client in most of those places and some hotel rooms.
5) Most people who have internet at work can not install a game or bring their PC on the network Some even have firewall issues and will need to use their mobile device to access the web. |
