Just a post to get peoples opinion on the Dramiel. Is it worth the money? Is it battle worthy or is it just a trophy ship?
Peace.

It's one of the best ships in the game.
It's got a tracking bonus as well as a range and damage bonus, uses capless guns, and it's also the fastest available ship and one of the most agile. Not only that but it has a flight of 3 light drones.
The problem is most people who fly them are idiots who only go after easy targets because if they fought any competent assault ships they would die in a fire.
The other problem is that it is quite overrated. I personally by far prefer the Daredevil.

IMO they are not worth it. I have seen a Helios beat a Dram 1v1

The fact that there are many many fail Dramiel pilots out there, coupled with the fact that the Helios is a damned fine ship for killing frigates, really makes that quite unsurprising.
Hell, Zach Donnell somehow beat a rail Daredevil in a blaster Enyo. Gonna tell me the Daredevil isn't worth the price because of that? No, fail pilots are the cause of a lot of "surprising" kills.

Exactly. Stick with good T2 ships and max them out with tactics, skills and mods, and you would go just as far as in a 100m frigate.

The fact that you have to ask would make it not worth it in your case, you will end up as a statistic .. the generic fail Dramiel pilot.
Use/abuse Rifters and Firetails until you feel confident enough to get a Dram.

I currently have 3 of them and my corp says I'm crazy for spending up on them but I haven't lost one yet in over 4 mths, as ISK isn't a problem for me, I was simply trying to get some non bias feedback but thanks for the reply.

Its an Op ship in terms of running but for solo, it cant deal enough DPS to kill anything before a blob lands.
When compared to its partner the duel prop ranis (people say dram is like an upgraded ranis, lol no) its ****.
About 80mil to buy and fit a dram time you buy a decent AB and literally no one can fly a dram decently, my killboard is not amazing and my activity is kind of meh but this is what tends to happen when I go out hunting with my frigates.
Frigates killed
Tbh if you want a expensive pwn ship get a daredevil, if you want duo prop get a ranis.

IMO they aint worth it, its only GTFO ship - nothing but that.
Situation:
- blob get reported - i warp to station @ 0 - dramiel comes baiting me - i dont bite - another neut comes in cane, dramiel goes to "bait" and tackle him - dramiels blob arrives - ??? - 2 pods - 1 belonging to dram pilot and the canes one leave the field
Conclusion - he would be far better of luring ppl with a cane then a dramiel. Cane guy lost 20M after insurance payout, dram guy lost prolly close to 100M
If you wanna tackle ship - get an interceptor - they are great for losing cause they cost peanuts + you prolly dont want 100M isk ship getting instapopped... which can and will happen to dramiel if you snooze for a second in critical moment...

Every single T2/faction frigate I fit... I start by asking the question can this beat/escape/handle Dramiels
Yes, as dramiels get more popular, the fail pilots start flying them, but in proper hands, you'll be hardpressed to find a better frigate. ...Then when you stopped to think about it. All you really said was Lalala. |

Well they're an incredibly common sight so light years away from being an trophy ship only. They're also popular for a reason.
Very fun to fly, would probably still fly em if the hull cost was tripled.

Dramiel is easily the best all around frigate. This doesnt mean it'll beat every frigate (though it will beat 90% of them), it means it has the best combination of attributes. Its the fastest frigate, can dual prop, can troll gun users with its 2km/s using only an AB. Can fit decent buffer. Has three drones and average or slightly above average gun dps, depending on how you fit it.
It is also the ultimate troll ship due to its ability to escape virtually any ship not specifically designed to catch Dramiels (or ships named Rapier).

The dramiel is a good ship, but in my opinion they're just not worth the cost. If you were to fly one then you really need to be a decent pilot and take advantage of the speed and agility it has.
Otherwise you're better off going for a cheap assault frigate for tank and gank. Or an interceptor for fleet tackle. You can go through several t2 frigs for the price of a cheaply fit dramiel.

You can get *almost* comparable performance out of a Claw or a Firetail, both of which are much cheaper.
Personally, I'm glad that so many failtards are flying Dramiels these days, it's cut down hugely on the number of "ZOMG DRAMIEL IS INVINCIBLE" whine threads.

THIS is why i am skilling up for ceptors.
I can get 10 ceptors to one daredevil.. rather loose 10 ceptors than one dram/devil.
loooking forward to flying maledictions.

Dramiel is a pretty good ship, and can benefit from the reduced size* the Republic Fleet Medium Shield Extender can give to it. Active armor tanking Dramiels need much more experienced maneuvering skills though, yet they are superior if one is fighting against EM-damage. Avoid Sabres, Hurricanes and Cynabals, but you can go tackle sniper-BS if you approach in spiral motion with overheated AB. If piloted well, the passive shieldtanked Dramiel is just uber, and more forgiving to the pilot's faults than the Daredevil.

Well then you've probably made your decision already which is fine, just a completely different mind set than me. If I'm trying to have some fun pvp'ing for an evenin some weird efficiency measure sure as hell won't be my first priority.
To each his own though, fly relatively safe.

If you know you can fly a frigate well vs other frigates and actually gtfo against larger things that can instapop you if you screw up, then get one. If you can't fly a frigate well, don't, many ships are worth losing trying to kill you if they care about efficiency even if you don't. |

Not long ago a WT in a Taranis was playing hide and seek with me. He stopped showing up on gates and stations so we assumed he was afk. I popped around the system dscanning. The only ranis i could find was off grid. After a couple minutes of probing him down i landed on grid with him only to see 200+ km away and burning away at over 3km/s. Swapped the prober for a Dram and headed back to where i saw him. At this point he had plenty of time to exit grid. I managed to dscan his direction and flew towards his signal. Found him, closed, popped his ranis and got him settled into a new clone.
A Taranis might be cheaper then a Dram but i'd never have caught him in a ranis myself. In this situation he was perfectly safe from everything but drams. Drams are great just don't be an idiot and think you're invulnerable.

This has brought up so many key argument points I have had with my corp. And TBH I am still sitting on the fence. I have no problem spending the money on them and they are extremely fun to pilot but they do have a stigma to them about being a fail ship. Still I love the different arguments coming out in this thread, many good opinions. Thank you.

Thanks, no I used to own a business where we would build race cars for people and for myself I built a little 1973 Mazda 1300 up with a 13B in it and the name stuck. It's is long gone now but I still use the name.
