I have been told that the Drake outperforms every T1 battleship hull for level 4 missions. This seems unlikely but I figured the best way to find out is leave Motsu and ask the professors on the forums.
Is the Drake really the best level four platform?
Should I train battleships at ALL?
Is Motsu local just full of trolls giving bad advice?

Why yes, yes it is. No BS can beat a drake at anything. In fact the drake is the absolute best ship in the game. If you fly something else, you suck at eve. Thus far you shall read, but no further; for this is my sig. |

Motsu really is just full of trolls.
As to the other question, I haven't used battleships for missions for same time, you really don't need them. Especially if you PVP and are only considering training battleships for PVE, it isn't worth the training time. Cruiser sized hulls can do just fine.
And if you can't fly decent cruisers like HAC's or t3 and don't have the money for Navy ones, a t1 cruiser will do just fine until you do. If you think that a t1 cruiser can't survive a level IV mission, then you are flying it wrong. That being said the new gurista's jamming makes flying anything other than a tengu with ECCM a bit of a pain anyway. It is best to keep training med weapons and such IMO unless your goal in eve is to fly battleships well.

There is a difference between "can do" level 4s, and doing them decently.
A drake can do L4s, but is painfully slow at it since it takes forever for a drake to kill BS rats.
To do L4s in a drake you have to basically fit it as a flying tank, which leaves no room for stuff like BCS.
A BS with T2 tank and decent support skills but only T1 guns/missiles will do L4s far more efficiently than a drake.
Oh and yes Guristas now suck even more and Motsu is still a wretched hive of scum and villany. Glad I mission in places where I dont get Gurista missions.

see, this is what i keep telling people. the drake is great at everything in the game, so there's no reason to fly anything else.

Honestly I fly Guristas missions in a Drake and I pop the BS's in 4-6 volleys. I fit my lows with DCUII and BStabs and I use a AB in hte mid to reduce incomming damage and I never have to run. Admittadly there are a lot of BS that can outperform a drake, but not many that can outperform it's passive tank while pumping out the damage at 60km.
overall the drake is a fine missioner and very nice. But I am still going to be switching it up soon.

Navy Scorp? Its basically a bigger nastier drake, with an even better passive tank. Or there is the rattlesnake too.

I'll play your silly game.
Max Gank Drake: 523 DPS with Scourge Fury. 416 with T1 Scourge. 426 DPS with Fury EM missiles. 333 DPS with T1 EM missiles.
Standard Gank Raven: 616 DPS with Fury. 481 with T1 missiles.
Issues: * Drake only has a 97km range with Sensor Booster. The Raven can fit a Signal Amp to get 121km. There are several missions where mission rats spawn at over 100km.
* Drake's damage bonus is limited to kinetic only.
* A max gank Drake has a painfully smaller tank than the Raven due to CPU issues. It can't fit a big enough shield booster, never mind a cap booster, which is worrisome against Sansha and Blood Raiders.
* With three rigor rigs and a TP, the Raven's T1 missiles can hit cruisers about as well as the Drake's HMLs.
* The Raven's Fury missiles have better DPS against BCs and Battleships. Battleships can have up to 6x the EHP of cruisers.
* The Drake's upgrade path is the Nighthawk with the awkward charisma based skills. The Raven pilot can easily slide into a CNR. A Tengu doesn't benefit from the Battlecruiser skill, especially Battlecruiser V.

I'd like to see your 4 BCU / 3 missile rig passive drake fit.

You were never with me since you missed the keywords "max gank Drake." Which means BCUs and missile rigs, which then requires an active tank and an optional AB to help via speed tanking.
And before you comment further, yes I did use the words "speed tank" and Drake in the same sentence.

At first i lol'd... but then... i lol'd again (= Drake can do any lvl 4 mission (DED Blockade is exception) but you need to make yourself some coffee before starting, in order not to fall asleep (= if you're young caldari pilot then rush to tengu after drake, raven with his cruise missiles is useless, too many skills that you'll need only to do missions

In passive shield tanked Drake you can full-aggro almost every lvl 4 mission. But DPS is too low to fly these missions effectively. Your DPS will be most likely somewhere arround 300-340 DPS with perfect heavy missiles skills and T2 ammo. But you can fly drake before you can get tengu (only 2 months away, when you fly a solid drake). The best thing is, that you can use the same missiles on tengu and you do not need to skill cruise missiles.
Drake + great tank, better than Raven IMO + drake is cheap + solid basis for your future Tengu - DPS for most lvl4 missions. Missions are completeable, but it will take time.

hmm who said troll threads were a waste of bandwidth...
P.S. OP - change drake to tengu in the thread title - then you might have a more believable trolling post - after all people can't hang themselves with a dull knife - gotta give em enough poison if you want them to take the jump.
