EvE attracts intelligent people to it's playstyle model. Such people are often imaginative, and can really see where the game could be taken. The glacial pace of development is often frustrating to these kinds of folks, so it's no wonder we see so much ranting and raving around here. As to whether there is more disgruntlement lately, perhaps there has been.
We've just witnessed the failure of the new forums, and we are sitting on the brink of the highly controversial Incarna content after many years of waiting and speculating. I don't find it surprising that the forums are quite active and quite critical lately.
I agree with this and not in a self-ego promoting way. Why is that generic FPS players always seem the happiest in the world? New achievements and hats melt their little hearts and even the smallest lamest efforts ostensibly only to bilk their customers further are met with by the consumer base with cheers and hurrah's for the devs while they gleefully rub their hands together with dollar signs in their eyes muttering "that's right, lap it up you fools".
Whereas we here, in a much more utopian place than they are bitter and not content. And ultimately that is because of what the quoted poster has pointed out. Eve's playerbase recognizes and is fueled on EVE's potential. In fact I'd go so far as to say the sole reason for my playing EVE is not based on what it offers now, but the hope that investment now unlocks its rich potential, with Incarna (as we heard it 2 years ago, not the chunks that are being dropped now) at the forefront of one of those "potential unlocked" moments.
We want so hard for CCP to succeed, and like a parent who scorns their child for satisfactory work, only because they know they could be doing exemplary work, we are never content with CCP's half-deliveries and uncooked product. When will we be there? Hopefully never. But are we at least going down the right path? That's the expression of the forums lately; we see the vehicle wavering as if its driver were intoxicated and we worry; we plead, we beg, we hope that the path remains straight.
