Tonight I was very excited an incursion was in my area. I got the logistic out was invited to a pug and was on my way. Thats when my friend was asking me to get on Eve voice with the fleet. I was like "huh"? I have it turned on? Nothing we did would work so, I logged out and back in and that's when this weird notify I had been getting from my first day back in eve for about a year caught my eye. Message *You were logged out of Audio chat* I have been asking myself from day one WTF is that? Is eve trying to log me into my old alliance's Intel channels then realizing I am not allowed? No, now I knew it had to do with eve voice.
Needless to say I did not get to enjoy the incursion....no I have spent the last 6 hours tryin to fix eve voice. Every single post I have found dating back to 2009 no one but one guy has had this problem fixed. His fix was to change voiceenabled=0 to voiceenabled=1 in his prefs.ini file. Awesome only the prefs.ini file no longer has the string voiceenabled=0 in it and adding it does zip.
At this point in time I turned to the 2nd useful post where for the first time ever I had seen CCP aknowlage there is a bug dealing with this and the fix was to ask someone else (heh I kid, I'm cranky wouldn't you be?) They asked you contact Vivox, Inc.
Lynda, a Customer Support Specialist for Vivox, Inc. (www.vivox.com) is on the job and I hope we can fix this issue soon. I decided to make a forum post so that is may help others whom may also have this problem....so more to come...

I'm kinda wondering if it has to do with X64 windows? My buddy has 32 bit and his works fine. maybe eve doesn't like my EVGA MB?

Update guys.
First let me say that putting a petition in is a waste. I did so and go no response. I think CCP is to involved with testing station walking right now.
Vivox, Inc. did get back to me and here is what Lynda had to say:
Thank you for the reminder but unfortunately, I need some more time. Our new app for Facebook: "Bobsled by T-Mobile" debuted this week and we've all been out straight just making sure that went smoothly.
I promise next week I will look into your issue further, and sincerely apologize that I was not able to get to it this week.
No worries looks like we are next on the list. We all know how putting something new out can be, look how much work CCP puts into rolling out stuff. So, a little more patience on out part and hopefully we will have some results.
PS: She did ask if CCP had acknowledged a bug on their side. I told her I have not heard nor seen anything from them.

no, not fixed yet. I petitioned but no response yet.
I have opened up several ports, that did nothing. I am not connecting thru a proxy, afaik. I use a cable modem with a wireless router, there is no firewall. Ive even fiddled with lots of setting within the router trying to get something changed there. Nothing changed.

Edited by: Glass Naskingar on 25/04/2011 20:42:27 Same issues here. Turning off my firewall did improve the situation somewhat, i can now get 5-10 minutes of eve voice working before i get the "logged out of voice chat" error. Still not good enough for incursions. My corp uses TS, but thats obviously not going to work for public incursion fleets.
How old is this feature CCP? Why does it not work? Many other games have in-game voice that works fine.
set up:
OS X 10.6 wireless router <- maybe the router's built in firewall is at fault? |

My firewall is turned completely off, so that is not the problem. Ive opened ports on the router, to no change.

I have had this issue since eve-voice was introduced. I even went as far as taking Vent and TS out incase of a conflict, but no joy. Please get this sorted as I am missing out on corp activities!

My advice right now is to put in a petition. CCP is aware there is a problem and told me there are several other reports about it. The more info they have the better IMO. ===================

Well I am 99% sure it's my ZyXel X-550 Router now. But I can't for the life of me get it to work. It's really PO ing me off.
here is my log:

I got a port checker:
5062 UDP : We were not able to ping your router! Port Check Result: Your Port is OPEN on this computer!
This means that our server sent a UDP packet to your computer and it got there as it should. Everything is working as it should and your UDP port is forwarded correctly.
So wait a sec WTH does that mean? My router is okay then why is it logging that it's blocking it? ===================

Edited by: SCOUTMONSTER on 05/05/2011 22:02:41 Well a reply from Vivox,
Quote: Messages in your log output below indicate that both SIP ALG and SPI features are enabled in your router. While they have their purpose, our experience has shown that either or both can interfere with voice functionality.
I suggest that you attempt to first disable SIP ALG in your router (it's the most problematic feature we encounter across all router brands) and test voice. If it is still not working, then try disabling the SPI feature and try again.
SIP ALG is intended to help with voice, specifically SIP, but it usually hurts. It's ironic, but that has been our experience and that of many, many others.
SPI is a security feature; if you disable it, you are reducing the security settings of your router, and you should consider whether you want to run in that mode or not. That is a choice you have to make, and we can only suggest temporarily disabling this feature for testing your voice functionality in EVE Online. I encourage you do search the Internet for people's advice on this particular change, and perhaps that will help you come to your own conclusion.
Kamal
-- Director of Network Operations Vivox, Inc.
Unfortunately the feature to turn off SPI ALG is not listed on my router and I am having trouble flashing the firmware. Turning off SPI did nothing. I also don't like the idea that I have to leave my computer open to attack to play EvE.
It is starting to look like coming back to eve was in vein. I came back because of the incursions. I am not getting in any groups because I have no way to use voice coms. The best groups will not let you in w/o it. So at this point I
a) tell everyone good by, and close my accounts and leave EvE.
b) try and talk CCP into taking Eve voice out of the game so that it will not be so heavily relied on and everyone can enjoy the content.
Somehow I don't see B happing. Like they are going to care about a few folks using ZyXel Routers.
Well, maybe I can talk the wife into a new router. We can't really afford it right now though. this router cost 300+ US.
Maybe ZyXEL can help.
I'll try to hang in there.

Wife's gona kill me I screwed up our 300+ US dollar router trying to flash the firmware. This is becoming a nightmare.
If you have a ZyXel X-550 (not an X550N) router be aware you may NEVER be able to use eve voice. Sucks too cause this is a super fast gaming router. never have had 1 problem with it till I was in a position where I had to get eve voice working.
working with ZyXEL now crossing my fingers. ===================
