well if thats the attitude u have then u can believe whatever the **** u want... u can choose to believe that that "box" they wheeled into the fanfest was a new server or u can believe that that box contained all the secret US governmental data on JFK's assassination.
you can believe that people at ccp hq in iceland actually do work on improving eve online slowly but surely or you can believe that they constantly dodge pyroclastic flows while firing ping pong balls out of their asses!
im not gonna try and change what u believe theyre doing. im here to be constructive and provide an objective and alternate viewpoint on what theyre working on.
though i have to say u sound like the kind of person that believes we should all be dieing painfully at the moment in the "rapture" or some BS like that. hope ur faith wasnt too shaken by the godly no-show! expect it to occur for the rest of your life. CSM Prop 1 CSM Prop 2 |

TLDR: We are not doing non game-changing things like going multithread because its too much effort or slightly modifying the physics engine because it would only give a 5-10% reduction to the load. Instead we are slowing down time, which will have so many downsides we will have to roll it back.

Le sigh.
Look, going multicore will be great in many ways. It will give us a one time perceived peak performance improvement of about 2-3x.
The current state of the art for "lag free" fights seems to be about 500 in local with a reinforced node. So if CCP went multicore tomorrow, that would jump to, let's say... 1250 or so. OK that would be awesome, but the playerbase has already demonstrated that it is both willing and able to bring about larger fleet battles than that. (Remember "3000 in LXQ"?). So lag will still be a problem even in our glorious multicore future.
Given that inescapable conclusion, a proposal by CCP to make the negative effects of lag less arbitrary and unpredictable, which is allthat TiDi is, seems like a very good idea. I would be interested to hear your arguments as to why lag effects should continue to be unpredictable and unevenly applied.

i dont like this idea, and i dont know why its called "time delation", its just slowing down the information signals in large scale battles in that sector and adjacant sectors.
i think much ppl will suffer everytime when there is an battle somewhere, because its their playing time the server system is stealing them to give it to someone else that wants to fight.
also i think it will get exploited.
i see much problems with this strategy because its not solving the real problem at all, the signal processing speed.

no its not. go back to the "official" sources of information on the subject and re-read.

more than it does so now? i dont think so! at least you wont loose assets to random bits of lag like u can do currently.

well if you seem to know so much please give us your insight into how it will most likely be exploited

well thank god you came along! i guess you design and build faster processors then Intel then? CSM Prop 1 CSM Prop 2 |

I don't usually have good things to say about CCP's software development abilities, but this is actually an extremely interesting idea. I hope it can be done with minimal effect on gameplay mechanics.

tbh i do seriously need veritas to see this!!
just wanted to let him know that if the videos coming out to do with the "future vision" of eve and the new DUST514 one with weapons fire between static structures and orbital capital ships are to become a reality he will need to liaise with the dev's in shanghai and newcastle about the issues of server lag and the implementation of time dilation into Dust514.
As de-sync's between the two while theres weapons fire between them will cause A LOT of rage from cap pilots. CSM Prop 1 CSM Prop 2 |

So, I'm generally in favor of this idea since it will provide a stopgap for fair fleet engagements until the tech catches up. After E3 though, I have a question for CCP: have you considered the effects of time dilation on integration with DUST 514? I can't really see the console players fighting in slo-mo, but I also don't see them fighting at different speeds from the EVE players in the same system.

I'd expect Dust-ers to fight in a instanced location, separate from main server, status reports and final outcome would be comunicated at key intervals/fight completion to the eve server. Any TD stuff shouldn't impact the dusters fight. Of course, if you expect to dust-clear a planet and claim it while 1600+ players are still fighting in the system....well...
