I have always had a fascination with history and culture. And the Matari have been Roga's spiritual guidance in a soulless world. I always fancied someone mixxed some Matari DNA into his test tube.
Anyone who has jumped into the Eve fiction rabbit hole, knows it really was alot more than "simple", drunken Viking humor that created it..
For instance, following Wyke Mossari's lead I began looking more into naming conventions. Heimatar, the center of Republic space is named after the identity pride of the Aryan peoples, i.e. Heimat
No wonder the Jove have such a soft spot for the Matari..
One should take in the bit about the ****'s and the current political vulnerability the Republic faces as it takes it's fledgling steps forward..

The design of the Matari was influenced by the Icelanders themselves; such as the old tribes meeting at the ¦ing (¦ingvellir) for political and practical discussion. If you look in the Art of EVE book I believe something is also said about their physicality being influenced from elsewhere; I know the Brutor are designed after the Maori.

I think you have something there, that dovetails with some recent finds leading me towards the Kurgan as the Urheimat with linage to the Tatars.
The "-tar" ending is a common word ending in the Proto-Indo-European language which is the precursor to Latin, Greek, Celtic, Persian,German and Nordic languages.
An interesting table of similar words in derivative languages.
mātṛ or matar = Sanskrit for Mother and Matter.

Yes, I was going to bring up the Urheimat reference if noone else noticed it..
For those who believe it was totaly random (the naming conventions), that must have been one complicated piece of software, considering the overlap of fictional ideas and nomenclature.
Another bit related to language is Centum. You'll notice the map is nearly identical to the above.
History repeating is a recurring theme in Eve. One that has forced me to dismiss the idea that knowledge of Earth died with the Eve Gate's closure. Much of it was likely passed down as myth and legend.
Also, if the Jove have been trying to recreate the circumstances of their affliction to create a cure. They would have to "repeat history" in order to be successful. Sleepers Drones and Rogue Drones are similar, perhaps in more than a offhand way. History repeating? Or convergent scientific pursuit by two seperate nations? There is simply far too much coincidence for it to be such.

As to the Brutor, I always saw South Africa as a likely starting point for the Matari Tribes. Once again, if the Jove wanted to engineer specific human DNA after an ancient haplogroup of Earth, they would need models to foist on the test populations. Germanic is one of the strong roots of the Afrikaan dialects.

The Seven Events of the Apocalypse is considered prophecy but the RL sceptic in me wonders if it is ancient history mythology.

My first Minmatar association is with Vikings. Mostly the system names but also because of how the ships look that could well be wooden water bound ships with sails. The Maori mentioned above could fit in this if we broaden this idea to Polynesia and people that live "with" the sea.
Add to that ship names like Hurricane, Typhoon and some more.
Also the enigmatic logo of the republic which to me looks like an armadillo rolled up but also has a Nautilus in it. The Nautilus again points to the sea. Also the idea of islands could be seen in it with a little imagination.
How about this for funny. Thrasher (disambiguation) -- a song written and performed by Neil Young, featured on the 1979 album, Rust Never Sleeps. -- HMS Thrasher - several different boats

Regarding the Valklear,
Valk (Old Norse) the slain on the battlefield c.f. Valyrie
-lear - Nothing solid, but: -lea (Norwegian) Past tense and past participle of lee (1) -lee (Norwegian) to move something or something moved. (2) -lee-ward (old-English) lee (ôside away from the windö) + -ward (ôdirectionö) (3) -lee (Alta) Water. (4) palea(r) (Vular Latin) chaff or dross (5)
Given their recruitment technique the last seems most relevant.

There is the possibility that not one but three cultures settled on the planet later to be named matar and that those cultures later unified to one.
The Minmatar - most likely ethymology minn and m==ir which the Amarrs replaced with the lating matar.
The mother earth father sun cosmology is obvious in the home system.
