My husband T'Laar Bok is a disabled Gulf War 1 Veteran and was diagnosed with terminal brain cancer 12 months ago, he was given 3 months to live.
His mind is a bit funny but still reasonably sharp, his body is failing. Sometimes he logs in and does nothing, just sits at his desk hoping for hours that he can get his limbs under enough control to use the keyboard so he can undock and go do a bit of mining. It is truly heart breaking to watch.
Using a mouse is increasingly difficult for him, I don't think it will be long before it will be impossible. So he can still play Eve he has setup macros to move the mouse and select menu items for him. Mostly the right click nested items that are impossible for him to select. These macros are not automatic and are bound to keys. They're essentially extra keyboard shortcuts.
Recently there has been a lot of talk in the forums about bots and macros and T'Laar has made several posts that he shouldn't have explaining his use of macros. He was up front and honest about why he used them and believed, as I do, he was in no way cheating. The macros do not give him any advantage over other players.
As an example instead of move mouse > right click > move mouse > left click to select menu items it was simply ctrl+s or something similar to do the mouse movements for him. He recently removed several macros as Eve now has the shortcuts built in.
I believe Eve is why he is still here, he loves the game and logs in every day he is able. He has been playing for almost 7 years. He cant play for the next 14 days. I have never seen T'Laar so upset. I fear greatly he will just give up.
Thank you GM Spiral.
Perhaps the EULA needs another paragraph explaining disabled persons are not permitted to play if they need assistive software.

Has the GM in question been made aware of the actual problem (your husband's condition)?

Sadly it would be exploited by soulless illicit macro users.
Sorry to hear about your troubles, though. That depleted uranium is nasty stuff.

Edited by: Ranger 1 on 22/04/2011 20:16:18 I saw his original posts, and expected something of this sort to appear in short order.
You did not dissappoint.
Keyboard short cut Macro's are not against the EULA and do not bring on a ban. They never have been, and do not trigger an investigation. Half the user base uses G-15 keyboards that can do the same thing.
If he (you) got banned, there was a hell of a lot more going on than just using a simple Macro.

Macros like these are okay, because they are just user-assisting not automation. E.g. there are keyboards out there that have built-in macros shouldn't they be banned as well if it's not allowed?

I think you missed the point that this is simply a stealth pro-bot scam. ===== The world will not end in 2012, however there will be a serious nerf to Planetary Interaction. |

On the bright side, it also means all those Iraqi children born with birth defects as a result of the use of Depleted Uranium during Gulf war 1, won't be able to macro-mine either. Another victory for the U.S of A.

I would suggest that you file a petition so that at the very least you can find out why he received the ban.

Its hard to change a rule to help out one dude with the downside of helping hundreds+ macroers who ruin the game.

Why did he get banned?

This.
OP. When he signed up to eve, he agreed to the EULA. I suggest you read it again because if you interpret CCP Sreegs talk at Fanfest even things like Synergy and other mouse emulator progs will no longer be allowed.

maybe he did technically break the rules but who knows if ccp are breaking the law as well as there is tons of disability laws and I never claim to be an expert ont hem, I am not even sure if there is any in iceland but the servers are in london and they have offices in uk and uk certainly does, I am not saying they are but they might be.
This is something the posters husband would have to take up with them though.
This is just somethingt ot hink about I am neither for against his presumed banning since I have no actual facts to work with.

Edited by: Generals4 on 22/04/2011 20:55:59 Am i the only one who thinks this is an alt who just tries to get his main unbanned by telling an invented story? My apologies if it's true but i don't buy it... not on the internet.
EDIT: if you want your "husband" unbanned why don't you just scan some papers from the hospital to prove your story and send it to GM's? Telling a sad story with 0 evidence on the forum won't get you anywhere (at least i hope it won't...)

La Dha, don't listen to the people who criticize your husband (or you). As far as I understand, as long as the simple macros he uses require him to physically press a button on the keyboard or mouse to do anything in the Eve client, your husband should be in the clear.
Let's be clear here. The only kind of macros were are against are the sort that allow ISK farmers to fully automate their physical interaction with the Eve client to the point where they can do their dishes or do any other chore while their Hulk or Retriever is left unattended mining a belt on its own for hours on end.

Its not a troll post go check out http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/DisabledPeople/RightsAndObligations/DisabilityRights/DG_4001068 to see how many rights they have, I personally find it abhorrent since it discriminates against those who are not disabled but I don't make the law personally. ----------------------------------------- View The North Star! NO, thas all YOU may be against. Even "little Bobby down the street" who runs a hulk bot to sell cheap minerals for cheap pewpew ships are a bane of EvE. These are exactly why mineral prices are so low that make other miners run bots to get ISK. ALL bots need banning.
As for this sob story. They have time and time again proved to be a load of bullocks, the only difference hear is that a socalled disabled Veteran has been thrown into the mix.
