Ok, I am in need of a second toon, but I have Hugesnet for my internet(satellite), and would like to know if I would, by some chance, be able to dual box on this satellite connection. At night I am able to play VERY easy while surfing, and watching a vid on you-tube(if that helps).
Thank you in advance for any help.

can't see why you could not eve uses so little data after your logged in, you can play eve on a 56k modem. ----------------------------------------- View The North Star! In All Its Glory!!

Your right the amount of data that is used is tiny, not worried about that. Its the latency that is worrying, at times I can't even go to Google due to the latency, but at night that is not a problem.....sometimes.

well its really gonan dpeend on what you do, I have no idea how bad your latency is but I've played ok with 2-3 accounts at onc eon a mobile broadband dongle and while not exactly the same thing, is similar although I expect yours to probably have higher latency overall movbile broadband does stuggle with prety bad latency that goes up and down alot.
Its probably nto gonna be good for pvp activities but if you mining/manafacturing.trading/npc missions you should be fine, the main issue with high latency is the client closing on you because you take too long to respond. ----------------------------------------- View The North Star! The client closing has been a pain from day one. My latency is well into the thousands, but I have done pvp and as long as people don't start with the "Drone **** of DOOM" I'm fine. Of course for right now I'm trying to shift from FW back to being a carebare(well not realy, as soon as I find a nice class 2 WH I'm gone) So my lag should not hinder too much. Given my info, do you think it would be wise for me to invest in another toon?

well I'd say personally go for it, you seem to want to try it and its not that expensive to try, use your 21 day trial invite to invite yourself (use a differnt email address to one on your account/not sure this is important) then create a new trial, then upgrade that trial with 1 60 days gaem time so now you have 81 days to try it and your main gets a free 30 days, if you think its useless after 81 days just don't renew it. ----------------------------------------- View The North Star! Edited by: Kiandoshia on 23/04/2011 22:06:03 As far as I can remember, you can't be logged in on a trial and a full account on one PC. I may be wrong though :S

you same client I used this Guide
The step How to reposition the EVE program window during windowed mode is no longer relevant though as eve has this feature built in now. ----------------------------------------- View The North Star! In All Its Glory!!

The slow loading of pages like 'google' is often mistaken as high latency. Truth be told it's usually your DNS that causes pages to load slowly initially and then *bam* the entire page seems to appear giving the illusion of high latency, decent bandwidth. For a satellite connection, I'm not so sure what would be the best DNS for you but I can tell you that you should simply use 'ping' to really test your latency and don't rely on the initial webpage load speed. On topic: Your latency won't change much unless you, or a hop between you and Eve, are under high load. Basically, you wouldn't notice a difference running 2 or probably more clients until you're overloaded. Off topic: Find a better DNS using a tool like this: http://code.google.com/p/namebench/

@sableye Followed your instructions, yet when I tried to create the EVE2 folder it said access denied in the command window. I am the primary user of this computer, any idea what I'm doing wrong?

If you want to test the waters you could make a buddy account, have it sub for a month and your main automatically gets 30 days free game time. This basically gives you a trial + 40 day sub on a second account so you can try dual boxing and see how it performs. If you can't run two accounts you haven't lost much other than the investment in skill books and ships for the second account.

I run 7x64 as well, hmmm, would it be possible to simply right click on the eve launcher, run in windowed mode, then do it a seconed time?

I have run up to 5 accounts from a single eve install before. 3 works reasonably for pvp for me at the moment. From what I gather you really don't need to have separate installs for each account.

yes you can do it just they have same resoloution screens ettinsg, I run 2 clients but use 3 accounts and on one client I run 2 of the charcters on one screen and another client with 1 character ona nother screen. its mainly only useful todo what I posted above due to using seperate chache and serpate monitor settinsg if you don't run dual screen its probably mainly useless and even if you do run dual screens you only really have issue if youw ant each cleint to have differnt resoloutiosn then you just need to change it each time on one of the launches.
edit: you can also copy and paste the eve install then use eve mover, I did have a few issues using eve mover after incarna patch though but seemed to work msotly okw hen you got it working ok. eve mover is an app you can download. ----------------------------------------- View The North Star! I THINK I got it working, already had my guy sitting in his station then I opened another eve window and had my friend logg himself in (no I did not copy or steal it) his guy was sitting jita. All I had to do was ALT-TAB between em. I just didn't do anything else like have both meet up or anything like that.
