Hi there, I was using search function but all i ended up with was "recruiting-ads" so please excuse me if I am in the wrong sub-forum..
so... i have this one question and will be thankful for all informations and opinions about it:
"What can a player expect once he joins a corporation ?"
I am not merely meaning the usual suspects like -team play -team content (higher missions, WH, PVP and such) -social interaction -fun
what i want to hear more about is more in organisation and structure. what i mean is, for example -goals to achieve as an individual and a as a group -a transparent way to let players benefit from corp activities
is it normal that on corp days you mine all night and the last thing you hear is "its corp day, its 100% corp?" is it normal that the corp advertises its own POS but you never see it , let alone use any of its features ?
so i am asking again, what can i expect in a corp ?
flame on ! and fly safe

so what i mentioned in my OP is somewhat normal ? arent there any guidelines or rules of thumb or something how corp¦s do it ?
i mean i dont want to throw all my playing time and ingame ressources into a corp that tells me "corp day, 100% is corp property now"
that can¦t be normal....

Hi there Zap,
not this is in my opinion definitely not normal.
Sure if you're on a corp mining session everything goes to the corp, but you decide if you want to attend or not. I usually do because it's good for the corp and I get benefits, such as cheaper possibly free ships and mods. As for the POS, in my experience the new members were shown almost from the start the location of the POS and if you wanted to use it you asked management and then got the green light to use it.
As for the goals to achieve, the Corp asks what you want to do, and the possibly suggest a training plan for you in order to fit possible Corp roles. But you should still have your freedom to do what you like.
Hope this helped.

For hi-sec/low-sec corps expect to either be mostly self-sufficient* or a corp ***** (eg high tax, mandatory corp mining ops etc). To actually get real benefits from a corp you need to be in 0.0/W-space where the corp is making enough money to pay its members or at least have a proper ship replacement program*.
* You will probably be able to get at cost T1 ships/mods and some logistics help. But hi-sec corps generally aren't rich enough to do much beyond that. ** Any proper 0.0 corp that doesn't have this is just trying to scam members while the directors and CEO rake in billions. Entire alliances pull this scam off and have since 2003. It is probably the number one cause of alliance collapse and warfare but dumbasses still do it.

In my experience there are wide variations in how well managed corps are. Some are hardly "managed" at all and exist for vague reasons. A few corps exist because corp bosses want other people to do their isk grinding for them. Some have a definite purpose. You really see it all.
What I do know is that isk grinding for the sake of isk grinding is the worst reason for a corp to exist. Just like in real life, money is a poor motivator and there are few people who can be kept happy on the long term playing the game only for their own wallet. People need a purpose that goes further than their own wallet.
The best corps in EVE understand that and will structure the corp somewhat to focus on some activity that gives players a reason to want to log on. One of the things we do in the corp I'm in is to delegate tasks to different people.
For example, someone in corp is a fitting manager who combs the killboards for good fittings and makes sure that the corp has at least one good fitting for every ship in eve. He also makes EFT files for those so when new people join corp we can just mail them the fittings so they can import them into eft and evemon so they know what we like to fly and what they're likely to need to train for.
That gives some focus. Of course the corp is PVP focused so it makes sense for that corp to have something like that. The point is, the fitting manager has a "purpose" for corp beyond just getting ships blown up in fleets and grinding isk.
Another one of our guys runs the forums and the TS3 server. One of them runs a POS in a wormhole so if you're broke you can go in the WH and grind some isk at high-speed for a few days. One of them spends time recruiting, One of them keeps track of who is who (mains and alts) in corp, one of them keeps corp bulletins up to date, one of them does our invention, one of them fills the role of CEO (which we tend to rotate among the long-term members so people don't burn out doing it) etc. etc. The work is really spread around and we do that because on the one hand it's too much for a few people to do, but more importantly, it gives people a purpose and a reason to feel important and connected.
The net result of that, of course, is that the corp is tight and the team has a good spirit because everyone helps the machine run. We also give our guys quite a bit of freedom to develop their own interests/projects/characters while at the same time understanding that if they want to have a long term future in corp that they have to be on the killboard too. The reason for that is simple. If the corp wants a long term future in 0.0 so we can use that space then the killboard stats are an important "product" that we produce. It's our calling card for getting good gigs and it's been working for 5 years so we must be doing something right. So some of our guys play almost entirely for the PVP and others get in fleets a few times a month but ALL of our guys find a way to balance the goals of corp with their own personal goals. And frankly, if you can't do that then you'll eventualy leave, won't you?
All of the best run corps that I've seen in EVE tend to operate in a similar way to what I just described. In our case, our way of operating is the brain child of one or two of our guys who are not only managers in a pixel-empire but managers in real life too... I guess contrary to popular belief, not all managers are idiots. :)
Getting back to your questions, it sounds like you connected up with some real losers. People who tell you after the fact that it was a "corp" op and then take all the loot/ore for themselves are just being greedy and idiotic. You should leave that corp as fast as possible and look for a new one becuase you deserve better than that.

wow.
thanks for all the infos and the feedback. from what hear out of almost all replies is the word "goals". so basically if you encounter a corp without proper goals or goals that are just incompatible with mine: leave or dont even join. next is responsibility... a corp that just manages sheep without giving them tasks, jobs or at least offers transparency : leave or dont even join.
thanks guys. that will help
