Edited by: Euphanasia Online on 28/04/2011 17:37:37 I have started a new account with a Character i intend to mine and produce on to support my main character and give me something to do whilst nothing is going on, on my main.
So i was wondering what are the essential skills i need to be self-sufficient in this manner?
And in what priority or order do they come? Which should i learn first?
Thanks

Edited by: Emporer Norton on 28/04/2011 22:05:17 It depends on what you are mining and where also if you want to use crystals but I'd say read haladas mining guide will tell what you need But basically all skills to fly exhumer the upgrades 4 and then if you want shield skills and core skills to fit

Now as a miner and industrialist rising slowly there are many things you need to become succesful with refining the ores to make profit
First off go for the best mining ship the hulk i fly a covetor but a hulk with bonuses is a beast to contend with.
Go for modualted strip miners t2 and t2 crystals they help immensely while mining
Get a 6.8 standing with a corporation will help also for perfect refining so can refining efficeny 5 and refinery 5 and metalurgy at least 4(this is crucial to perfect mining) with refining and refining efficeny to 4 and 5 i have a 97.9 refining net yield which is ok. but 100% should be a main goal to make isk from refining. Industry im still learning but mining is pretty damn good start!

Edited by: Skorpynekomimi on 29/04/2011 05:49:39 Train for a Retriever. Then a Covetor, then use that while you source a Hulk. Then move up to T2 strip miners and crystals. Find other people in your corp/alliance who mine, and organise ops supported by an orca.
EDIT: A hulk is not optional. It gets SO much more yield than the retriever and even the covetor.

MINIMUM Required skills to fly a Retriever:
Science - level 4 Mining - level 4 Industry - level 5 Astrogeology - level 3 Mining Barge - level 3
Total skill training time without implants for a completely new character is under 10 days (9 days, 2 hours for my test character).
MINIMUM Required skills to fly a Covetor:
Science - level 4 Mining - level 4 Industry - level 5 Astrogeology - level 5 Mining Barge - level 5
Basically it is the same plan as the Retriever but take Astrogeology & Mining Barge to level 5.
Total skill training time without implants for a completely new character is under 50 days (49 days, 6 hours for my test character).
MINIMUM Required skills to fly a Hulk:
Science - level 4 Mining - level 4 Industry - level 5 Astrogeology - level 5 Mining Barge - level 5 Spaceship Command - level 4 Exhumers - level 3
Basically it is the same plan as the Covetor but adds in the skills Spaceship Command & Exhumers.
Total skill training time without implants for a completely new character is under 52 days (51 days, 2 hours for my test character).
It is strongly recommended for flying the Hulk to get all of the above skills (leave Exhumers @ level 3) to level 5. The total skill training time to bring all the skills to level 5 (excluding Exhumers) without implants for a completely new character is under 66 days (65 days, 17 hours for my test character).

Those were just the MINIMUM skills to pilot those vessels, none of that takes in to account the additional skills needed to actually mine faster & more efficiently.
Here are some skills that a new character starts out with that you should consider bringing to level 5:
Engineering Electronics Navigation Mechanic Shield Operation
Here are some skills that you will need to purchase that you should ABSOLUTELY get and skill up to level 5 - especially if you wish to mine, process & do production/manufacturing:
Cybernetics (must get to level 4/5 to fit some of the best implants) Mining Upgrades (allows you to fit MLUs - essential! at least lvl 4) Drones Mining Drone Operation Drone Durability Drone Interfacing Drone Navigation Drone Sharpshooting Refining Refining Efficiency (level 4 allows use of T2 Mining Crystals!) Metallurgy Mass Production (level 5 allows overall total of 6 manufacturing slots) Advanced Mass Production (level 5 allows overall total of 11 manufacturing slots) Production Efficiency Metallurgy Research Laboratory Operation Advanced Laboratory Operation Supply Chain Management Leadership Mining Foreman (adds 2% to mining yield per level)
The "Ore-Type" Processing skills are essential for miners to use Mining Crystals on T2 strip miners (to use T2 Mining Crystals the skill MUST be at least level 4). Here is a list of the "Processing" skills you should do FIRST for high-sec ores:
Veldspar Processing Scordite Processing Plagioclase Processing Pyroxeres Processing Kernite Processing Omber Processing
And for all the low-sec ores:
Arkonor Processing Bistot Processing Crokite Processing Dark Ochre Processing Gneiss Processing Hedbergite Processing Hemorphite Processing Jaspet Processing
For harvesting Ice/Gas, mining Mercoxit and processing other materials you will need:
Ice Harvesting Ice Processing Gas Cloud Harvesting Mercoxit Processing Scrapmetal Processing
Additional skills you will need to purchase that may not affect your mining yields & speed but WILL vastly improve your piloting skills:
Energy Systems Operation Energy Management Energy Grid Upgrades Electronics Upgrades Weapons Upgrades Targeting Long Range Targeting Signature Analysis Multitasking Evasive Maneuvering Warp Drive Operation Hull Upgrades Shield Management Shield Upgrades Tactical Shield Manipulation Shield Compensation Combat Drone Operation

In the end, just the skills I've listed could take a basic character (NO implants) over 275 days to skill up. My sources for this info were EVEmon & Halada's Mining Guide

Mining and Production are different careers.
You can do both on the same character if you wish. However, the moment you realize that they are different, and how they are different, your income will go up significantly.
