Bought a hulk with full fittings for a member in a previous corp. Plenty of generous and nice people in the game, it just isn't talked about much as tragedy is more appealing. |

I've been generous helping noobs not even in my corp.. sent 5 million out more than once..
But helping guys in your corp should kinda go with the territory.. when you're talking about a new player like yourself that hasnt' figured a way to afford a pretty affordable ship.
Sometimes its not outright gifts.. i remember getting a full cut of lvl 4 miissions i was "helping in " with my incursus 2 weeks into the game... 11 million was a fortune...or in terms of less charity.. corpies should invite the newer players to salvage their anoms or missions to earn above their pve skills..
But on far bigger level.. somehow your corp needs to pay for logi's and dictors and hlep guys out to fly those.. more established corps have moon revenue etc, but if a couple experienced guys are trying to build up a new corp that sort of thing might come from their pockets to achieve their own game goal of building a corp (i.e. generous but also serving they own purpose too).
Oh a much bigger level I kicked in 1 billion isk to help a senior guy in my corp get a titan and so did a number of other guys.. some 2 and 3 billion each.
You little wolf is really pocket change for established players and if they like you as a person to have around in chat and coms, and see potential in you, they'd be pretty senseless not to help you one way or another and encourage you along.

It is, it teach you how to not get screwed, and how scam works in RL (yes really). Scammers is best what could happened to eve. When i read this topic im starting to know who actually falls to a nigerian/spanish scams. LOL

I've helped out my corpmates on occasion if they need the ISK. They get the ship they want, we get to go on better missions, everybody wins.
I wouldn't say I earn a lot at this point, my ISK making ability is severely dented by my short attention span a lot. Some random guy sent me a mining ship once after I chatted in Rookie channel(while I was still a rookie) about making my way in EVE as a miner. So now I return the favour whenever I can.

I sometimes give 2-5m to my corpmates or Couster newbies to help getting them started, And once I bought a catalyst and fitted it for someone who was having a hard time doing missions. Not much, but for someone who's been playing for 3 days it might be a big help

Chances that "Noob" is actually someone's corporate infilitration, scamming, or trader alt, and it's pointless to give them isk because they have more already than I ever will.

I'm a noob and a kind stranger gave me 10 million ISK the other day. It helped me loads and actually kept me playing, I had just lost my first Trasher and was kinda ****ed because I couldn't afford a new one.

I totally endorse this procedure.
You are a good person, Kara :)
Originally by: Kara Sharalien I regularly bankroll new players with better ships. You often see people asking for help with missions in local. I help them out, and then I say "You shouldn't be trying to run that in an osprey, here use this". and give them a skill appropriate ship, often a battle-cruiser.
I've also been known to give out decent amounts of money, 10-15mil. Pocket change for me, weeks of work for a new player.
There are only two limits to my generosity. This first is I don't give to those who ask. Begging is pathetic, and not a form of behavior I wish to encourage. No shame in asking for assistance, this is a multiplayer game, but begging so you don't have to work with other people is bad.
The second is more of a request, but I always ask people who I donate to, to pass the favor on when they are making enough money to be in the same position as me.

if somebody asks for help and it involves money i'll usually say no, if i think somebody needs a hand but instead of hoping for a hand out they're working towards it i'll help them out, i've bought and given away 3 hulks a CNR, Rattlesnake and full set of +5s to various people so far
and the most i've ever been given was a Charon by a friend who quit as he knew i needed one but couldn't afford it (i borrowed his from time to time) ----------
Theres a wonderful world out there..

If you're any decent judge of character and voice coms are part of the picture, you're going to get it right 90% of the time.
The other 10% the spy has gotta be asking really stupid questions, showing you fittings with dual tanks, not have auto-targetting turned off, looking for "spell books" or whatever , wondering how to use the UI to link things (well even experienced players have gaps there) etc.
If I'm giving 10 milllion (or like I said, better to give the guys a sense that they had something to do with "earning" it) and 1/10 times it went to a spy or alt the help I'd have done to that spy would be neglible to his wealth but the help done for the other 9 would be huge.
Also, as my characters in player corps are now in experienced 0.0 corps, I don't find many true noobs deserving and my charity would be more on the order of sending isk to scouts and tackles that lose ships that won't be reimbursed and who missed out on killmails for the roams good or something.
In corps that accept a lot of true begginers, I don't imagine many spyss find it worth their time unless its a begginer corp based in 0.0 which has access to regional intel coms for the place that a noob 0.0 corp would rent from.

I've probably spent more ISK on friends than I have myself; I even lent my Vindicator to someone who managed to keep it alive up until he was bringing it back to me when it got Ganked on the last gate. I laughed it off, considering the chances were slim. I still have my other ships _____________________________________ Haruhiist since December 2008

I've given away a few tens of billions over the last 18 months. Most of it to two friends who I enjoy helping out. One is a nullsec pilot, so I give him cap ships which he names after me. Given my combat skills, it's the closest I come to getting kills (*mynamehere* got on a titan killmail today, etc).

If you were actually concerned with assisting new players in avoiding becoming the victims of a scam then you could just simply tell them the best methods and means for avoiding being scammed. No actual scamming is required and hopefully there will be more Fluffies and rainbows in the world as a result.

Originally by: Kurama Bingyi This past week, I came across something that I wouldn't have expected in a lifetime: Generosity. I made an idle comment in my Corporation's chat about how much I would have loved flying in a Wolf Assault Ship. Knowing that I wouldn't have been able to afford one in the near future (lol poor noob), I just made it one of those, "Meh. If I get one, great; if I don't, oh well" toned messages.
Well, lo and behold, someone had sent me a contract - for free - for a Wolf sitting in a hangar just three jumps away. Along with an optimal T2 fitting. I was utterly speechless. I know it's not the greatest of ships that I could fly, but the entire reason I had come into EVE was the opportunity to fly a Wolf. I had lost three others, before, due to my own stupidity, but this was during a time when I had hardly any major skills trained other than the ones that were required for piloting a Wolf.
So, this really got me thinking: how generous would you be if someone asked for help?
If what you deem as generosity is equivalent to tossing a quarter to a homeless and destitute individual, is it really that generous?
I'm not a rich person in Eve, in the grand scheme of things I'm not even close. However, even I could give you a wolf, or ten, or a hundred, without so much as scratching my wallet.

The value of the Wolf To the OP was not altered by the perceived wealth of his Benefactor. So regardless of how much isk the giver had/has the gift of the Wolf was a generous and kind thing to do. "Every Pirate is a lost soul waiting to be shown the light" |

If you have hundreds of billions, you ARE rich. Average player isk is 3 billion. Stop trying to make "poor" people feel bad.

Seen generosity and meanness all over.
Used to be quite generous, until i gave a guy 200 m and he never logged back on. His ceo said he would pay it back then he never logged back on. A little annoying thinking that guy is laughing at his scamming cleverness, then again maybe he has a sick relative and can't come back to eve right now. 200m is peanuts anyway. It might be called an RPG but i think people really do act as they do in real life. I will continue to be helpful to all but beggars.

I live near a .3 Pirate Headquarter (only a few corps really live there) and whenever a newbie character unknowingly passes by and gets themselves killed by a smart bombing battleship at the gate I always send them a little bit of ISK and explain how to avoid dying this way. I guess I'm one of the few people in Eve with sympathy for new players.

I've given away plenty, though never to beggers.
Normally, when in the giving mood, I do it in NPC corp channels and do so to people starting out, (skillbook isk, basic equipment etc.) or people who have had losses but are looking positively towards replacing them and not overly whining.
I think the most I ever gave for free was 1.7b but it was returned instantly as I misunderstood the level of e-poverty being experienced :) |

People with the hundreds of billions of isk are not as common as one would think. I know of guaranted 1, and another possible 2. To be on topic, i have never received isk or items willy nilly, only advise. Teaching a man to fish doesnt do so well when hes sitting in the wreck of the boat. Myself however have given maybe a bil away to different people. Usually to be people who are new in a corp, or just really down on their luck. Most recently an absolutely fail noob in our alliance chat asked for 5mil a skill. The rest of us turned it int a competition as to who could be the most generous. It stopped when the guy had close to 200mil.

Yes it can happen, I was given a Machariel back in the days when most people had never seen one, was worth just short of a billion at the time. It was a gift from my CEO.
I have also helped many players along the way, especially returning old corp mates who need a leg-up to get back into the game at a competitive level.

When learning skills were being removed, some new player complained about buying the skillbooks a week before and pretty much spent all his/her money...so I sent 15-20 mil.
Someone was complaining in local they couldn't fit T2 autocannons on a frig or something so I suggested meta 4. He didn't have enough cash for meta 4 tho...so I sent a few mil.
I don't give often. I spend tons of cash on new ships that I fly for a day and leave to rot in a station. I just can't stand seeing money in my wallet :P

Ive been borrowed almost 2 bil before by an old corp member after a huge screw up on my part. Ive regularly given ships and such to corpies and friends in game over the years. For me it was about I have more than I need, still do so here have fun. Try not to break it the first time out.
Ive had numerous people try to take advantage of that though and get cut off rather abruptly when they started to treat it like a candy store and didnt give a **** about how hard you had to work for things.
