Get a better movie maker. The one that comes with Windows sucks.

Why do you want to make 4k movies ? Do you realize that this would be full Cinema resolution and no screen expect a cinema projector could display it correctly ? Also it will be a pain in the ass to handle and for such resolutions you usually use systems like Autodesk Flame or Smoke wich cost a ****load of money. You really should rethink this idea :)

I have to say, that's a pretty unusual resolution to work with - but not impossible. I would recommend you rethink working in that resolution from an editing perspective.
You could theoritically transcode your footage to a lower resolution, which would not necessarilly degrade the quality, but just squish its dimensions proportionatly.
What are the exact dimensions?
4096 x 3112? 3656 + 2664? 4096 + 1714? 3996 + 2160?
The reason is that 4K footage takes a very long time to render...you're talking between 8-12 million pixels per frame, instead of 2-3 million pixels for 1080p.
Also, I'm pretty sure Fraps 'only' goes upto 2560x1600 - how did you capture your EVE Footage?

fraps accept any resolution as long as the screen is wide enough.
I am creating videos to show on a projector so I want the details as good as possible
the size is 3889*1000.
render time is irrelevant
and movie makers custom setting doesn't go beyond 1080 sadly i tried.

for projectors too have as much quality as possible.
allso don't have that kind of money so i was hoping for a free program that could do it.

i know that but I don't have money for the expensive ones and i don't know any good free ones other than movie maker.... also movie maker is actually quite good but not at custom settings.

Back in 2010 neary at the end of the year, a video editing programm called "Lightworks 2010" (http://www.lightworksbeta.com) was set to "open source" and is aviable for free download.
This software was used to edit variuos cinematic movies. For example: Shutter Island, Pulp Fiction, The Departed, 28 Days Later and Mission Impossible. (Infos from: http://www.chip.de/downloads/Lightworks-2010_45845961.html)
Formats and Codecs supported: AVI, QuickTime, MXF, DPX und RED R3D, DV, DVCPRO 50, DVCPRO HD, XDCAM HD, XDCAM EX, P2, AVC Intra, DNxHD, ProRes (Infos are from the same page as linked above)
Detailed Infos can you see on the Lightwork-Page I linked above.
Meanwhile the software reached "Public Beta - 10.0.4".
Last one I know is V-10.0.3. I've also downloaded this software early in this year, but hadnt found the time so far to test it. But I surely will test it soon. Take a look on the Lightwork-Page. Maybe this is something you are looking for.

Not? Oh dear ....
Well maybe the uncompressed code in the AVI (it's only a container) isnt suppoerted. This software is still "beta", but maybe there are coming more formats and codecs as "AddOn" or "PlugIn" or what ever.
I've to check the LW-Forums in the future ...

Originally by: Psyrelle another free program that can save in custom resolutions would be nice
Linkage
You can use the free trial of this.
Tested using Fraps files and custom resolutions of 3889 x 1000 and it rounded down to 3888 x 1000, so you lose 1 pixel on the width, which is half a pixel left and right.
Takes a few seconds and allows for simple edits also, instead of being a simple transcoder.
