Hi all,
Been about 5 years since I was last in New Eden and now I am back. Even though I am Gallente I used to pilot a Raven (still got a 1 run blueprint for when I am rich again). Now to my problem I have fallen a long way (don't stop reading I am not asking for isk just advise) and don't know how to get back into the game, I have about 10 million isk and need to get equipped and would like to run missions so.... could anyone advise me of a good ship/loadout to start and also tell me if at my lvl I can still run low lvl missions to get back into things.
Thanks in advance.
Oh and if anyone remembers the Fourtunis Corp.. Hello! |

Well I guess this all depends on what skills you have, what ships you can fly and the state of your standings.
If we were to assume that you have access to level 1 and 2 agents and can fly frigates and destroyers, then your best bet would be: Merlin, Punisher, Rifter, Tristan or one of the destroyers. Using these to clear out the missions swiftly and cherry picking loot will get your standings up in a short time as well as making a good chunk of ISK to fund for better ships.
Training your social skills (mainly social and connections) will make your life a lot easier with standings. After you feel confident enough with these missions then the next logical step would be getting a battlecruiser and bumping up to level 3 missions.
Now since you state that you have a Raven blueprint, I feel confident to say that you are a Caldari pilot and thus have missile skills so your battlecruiser of choice would be a Drake. It has a sufficient tank as well as enough damage (if fitted right) to deal with most if not all level 3 missions without breaking a sweat.
Finding a good corporation could also greatly help you make more money as well as grouping up with other players to run missions. There you will make the big bucks, so to speak until you feel confident enough and have the resources to run level 4 missions on your own. |

Yep! That's basically what I would have suggested. You said that you were a gallente pilot, so you definitely want to throw in some drones if you are going to be flying Caldari ships. While flying the Drake you can't take out frigates very efficiently, so just pop on 5 light scout drones of your choice to help make things smoother (make sure to bring them back into your cargo hold if your drones get aggro'd)
I would suggest using Missile launchers if you're wanting to go down the PVE path. I'm not sure what kind of playstyle you're looking to get into, but you should be training the skills you want to use in the future now. If you want to PVP, then get your winmatar on! ;)
I'm smiling at the fact that a GM took the time to help you out! Man CCP is so friendly I'd almost think that they're Canadian not Icelandic! ;)

To add to this, regardless of what race you are going to fly. Drones will save your life in missions. If you decide to not go Caldari then there are other ships more than capable of doing missions. If PVE is your game then you may also be interested in Incursions. |

Stick with your raven for now. Check Battle clinic and sort by ratings to get a good raven fit.
Use mission survival to know what dps to tank, mission triggers, and agro groups.
Always agro by smaller groups, and orbit to limit incoming dps. Use the lvl 4 agents you have, dont bother salvaging and looting if your one interest is lp and standing. Figure out what lp rewards you want to acquire and work toward them.
These steps will maximize your income for time.

Yeah I don't have much more that to contribute to this thread. Good stuff above. One piece of advice though: don't let anyone tell you you "can't" do any particular thing because of more SP, because it's wrong, or just because. People really enjoy telling each other they're playing Eve wrong. When it comes down to it, do what's fun for you, and if you're not having fun, try someting different. It's a game after all, and is supposed to be fun.

Cool guys all your input helped a lot. I did a bit of running around and broke open some old crates that my stuff had been stored in a a few stations I used to operate out of ( boy I wish those jerks would be a bit more careful with the sensitive gear most of it was only good for scrap) recycled/sold all I could find that I was not going to use right now and managed to scrape together the price of a Ferox (needed to train BC2 for the Drake so that will be next). Any how being a bit rusty in the old pod I just fitted some small Hybrid rails and did 4 lvl 2 missions to get loosened up a bit and boy is it all coming back. Then I bolted on a set of med rails, looked up some old contacts I had in the Gal' navy security office and one of them put some put some lvl 3 missions my way and it is all good from there on. I have two lvl 4 contacts so that will keep me going for a while. |

No one has said, so I'll just pop on with ... Don't rush into larger ships. And don't fly what you can't afford to lose.
What I'd do is to look up a recommended fit for a PVE Raven (if that is what you want to fly) or PVE Drake (which seems more reasonable at this time) and see what modules it needs. Train the skills for those to at least 3, preferably 4 before you consider flying the ship you are aiming for.
You will kick yourself for losing an expensive Drake when you were not ready for it. |

Well said Chal0ner,
My skills are not too bad I last used the Raven back in 2005 just after they nerft the missiles and got it blown out from under me, I think that is what put me off at the time suddenly when from a ship that could do anything to one that could not defend itself from a bunch of drones. But I know what you mean, you have ot be able to get back to where you were if you lose your ship and even plat' insurance won't cover the modules. |

What I'd do is to look up a recommended fit for a T1 PVE Raven (if that is what you want to fly) or T1 PVE Drake (which seems more reasonable at this time) and see what modules it needs. Train the skills for those to at least 3, preferably 4 before you consider flying the ship you are aiming for. Then go for a T2 fit. When "upgrading" to T2, upgrade the tanking modules first.

Ok next question,
How do I defend my Ferox when a little fighter attacks me with a warp lock device, I can't hit him with my med rails and he kills all 5 of my scout drones leading to a slow death as I refused to pay him 20 million creds. |
