...but a whimper
I've hit the ...meh wall with EVE, there's no passion, no anger, no vitriol, I love the game, it has amazing depth, really rewards massive team play, and offers many options to players. But I haven't been stuffed to logon for a week, except to update my skill Q. I sit in station, spinning my ship, and then log off, and play Crysis, or Portal 2 co-op, or Amnesia, or watch the latest Doctor Who episodes... Why? I think it's just that the little niggly issues I've had with Eve the entire time (the APPALLING interface, CCP nerfing every source of income, lack or real variety in misions...) have finally overwhelmed any delight I draw from the game.
But basically, I just don't care any more, perhaps new content would have kept me playing, no, not another stupid tweak to the character customisation screen, or more time and effort spent on aspects of the game you never use, but real new content...Tech 3 battleships, a new career, new skills...
I am writing this (you may be wondering) to let you know that I, at least, AM quitting EVE, I won't be alone.
When people take the time to point out the flaws in this game, and your reply is always some inane "0/10" or "WOW--->" or "working as intended," you aren't helping contribute to the necessary support needed for CCP to see the error of their ways. No-one here thinks EVE is perfect, most openly acknowledge the game has serious flaws, but there are certain members of this forum who seem to delight in taking down any attempt to air grievances, and that helps no-one.
Good bye, good luck, fly safe.

I'm going to say it very clearly now so there can be no mistakes:

Crap a Jedi! *hides*
I was in the same position a couple of months ago so I just took some time away (though still on sub) and then came back and tried something new when I returned. I hope you find what you're looking for with other games, but the sad thing is even with it's massive bugs and flaws EVE still kicks the crap out of most other MMORPG's out there.
Obligatory "can I has your stuff?" line.

It's ridicilously easy to make massive amounts of isk these days in EVE, that's probably what will become this games downfall as well. Economy will crash will all the isk-prints and lack of money sinks atm, especially since we have all these damn carebears who just farm their missions and never spend any of it.
TL;DR of course you're bored, go blow **** up for a change. -

No worries, quite a few of the long-time players have done the same at least once in the past. I've been there at least twice myself.

I think all long term players reach this point from time to time. The sad fact of the matter is that there is no better mmo out there.. Sure some have better graphics, less boring (PVE) gameplay, a quality assurance that isn't a joke and some even have customer support. But all these games are shallow and meaningless compared to eve (at least to me). That's also why I whine so much - if there was a viable alternative then I'd have left in early 2006.
Just don't give away your stuff and maybe even continue training if you can afford it (i stopped sub during my first longer EVE break and regretted it half a year later).
Have a good time at whatever you decide to do.

You don't quit eve , at most you take a break.
We allways come back because to be honest there is not one mmorpg that comes close and trust me a lot of the time i wish there was one and i tried a LOAD of others over time.

Take a step out of high sec?
If u think Eve is not fun due to the lack of the variety in missions. You like 80% of the game population. Are doing it wrong.
On a good nite, and in a good fight. The interface is the last thing u will be thinking of. Hate to say this. but if u want the game to be fun. Nut up or Shut up. Only you can do this. Hope u enjoyed your stay, here is the noob door, let it hit ur @@s on the way out.

The above poster does have a point. EVE in highsec is terribad but that's logical since the game revolves around 0.0.
If you havn't considered it yet then perhaps join a 0.0 alliance or explore some wormholes. The wormholes are my personal backup plan - before I get a bore-out (opposite of burn-out) I'll join a WH corp and give that a try.

Of course you realise I live in Angel null sec, and haven't ventured into hi sec (except to trade in an alt) for 6 months now....no, of course, not, much better to jump to a conclusion based on no evidence, and bag me as a result...clever

I've had that a lot, its not the niggles. Its called eve burnout. You are playing an intense game. Unrelenting, even. So eventually, it gets overwhelming, and you can't be bothered playing.
My advice?
Stop playing. Go play starcraft 2, or CS, or whatever. If this is your first burnout, it'll probably take 3-6 months to get over it.
But for the love of god, don't cancel your account, because in 3-6 months, when a new expansion has been released and all the stuff (wars politics etc.) you were involved in and expending so much effort on have blown over, you will come back and start playing again, and then you'll kick yourself in the head for not keeping your training running.
I'm just starting to blow into a minor burnout as we speak. It'll be over in a few weeks.

You don't like PVP at all, and you're bored of all the PVE content available to you. Sounds like an excellent reason to quit or take a break. Would a T3 battleship really hold your interest for long? or would you be back at this point in a few months? --

I suffer a bit of the same. I reached 2 mayor goals I had set and now am a bit 'meh' too. One was getting access to 0.0, being able to mine ABC ores (I'm not a die hard PvP person) and get my alt into a JF after being able to fly it properly -> Jump drive cal. 5, racial freighter 5 stuff like that. I just found myself not caring much about 0.0 and the massive politics around it.
I'm strongly thinking about selling the JF, collect all my stuff where possible from null and low and........ I just don't know. "The I care'' part is a bit worn off, not in the least because of how I feel lately about CCP. Lots of bragging and promising, yet not delivering or delivering far under par and the way they treat or better not treat their Mac customers after CCP Whisper went up in smoke.
But I'm polluting your thread now, so let me just say best thing you could do is put your account to sleep. Don't log in for a while, don't give away your stuff because even with how terrible CCP is at the moment when it comes to the core of EVE, I have a tiny spark believing that one day they will come back out of this better then before (I hope) and you will want to be part of that again.

i appreciate your points here, i too frequently feel my will to play flagging a bit just because iv played most of what i want to play and often sit in space waiting for a viable pvp target that doesnt look like its gona be a blob or scouting for people in cloaked ship often waiting hours at a time before anything interesting turns up. i did try mining, but without a good corp and active members this is more boring then sitting still in space calling out targets over vent ;P
idk my morall was heavily hit most when i lost a LOKI to a DC i didnt iniciate, i was just logged off the game. no help offered over the petition as logs apparently dont show anything i wonder how many people get that responce!
anywho if you do fancy coming back let me know maybe we can give you a sending off by spending all your old stock by being a-holes and greifing for a bit ;P
ps: if you have a LOKI sitting about in your storage and want to give me a good price on it il pick it up off of you, so u can have a bit of cash if you decide to return, i could use another one thank you very much CCP :D
((i wont turn away freebies but i advise against giving them out rather then selling em, cos if u come back in the future *as i frequently do* then u will regret not having anything to use! or maybe thats the fresh start you need? idk just be cautious ;P and good luck with whatever else you do!))

Edited by: Gavriel Black on 05/05/2011 13:01:01 The fact of the matter is, I'm the same. I don't play EVE so much as log in and train my next skill.
I think many people fail to understand the complexity of computer game development. It's very easy to say "I want this feature, lets do it." but actually developing that feature, testing it, retesting it, releasing it, fixing bugs that didn't appear in testing, it's extremely complicated.
I think that unless you're an extremely boring person, it's quite normal to get bored of EVE. EVE is very young in the grand scheme of things. Only now we're starting to get to the vision that I had of EVE when I first started playing. And hell, even if we had all these features that everyone is begging for I can assure you, you'd still get bored. Why? Because we're only here once and one of the side effects of the human condition is curiosity. As long as there are other computer game developers out there, we'll want to play their games.
So do I actively play EVE? No. This said, as long as we can train skills over time, I'll continue to subscribe, because one day I'll wake up and want to blow the **** out of someone in space via a spreadsheet.
