I hope this is the right page to write this on.
If I want to run several clients on my computer what steps can I take to make the client performance load easier on my computer?
My computer is ; i7 2600, 4 GB ram , 1 GB graphics card and using win7 64. ( btw should I could get more ram ie 8 GB vanilla or just upgrade to 6 Gb 1600 but with the faster speed ). Does anyone know how much ram each client need ?
Can Eve be run ok by using side by side screens on the same monitor ? Or is it better to have overlapping screen and tab between them ? Or, finally is it just better to have separate monitors or does that bring its own problems.
many thanks for the info.

Allow about 1GB RAM per undocked client w/ max settings.
It actually uses a little less than a GB, but you want some buffer room in there so you can listen to music/browse the nets etc without your comp paging out

Your machine is better than mine by far. I run 2 clients with a few optimizations. I've got windows to deny read/write access to the portraits folder. I've defragged my pagefile and put it on a drive separate from my OS and EVE. I run in windowed mode (alt-tabbing in full screen is plain bad.) I shut down extra programs like firefox. I run the client with lower graphics settings. I should shut off brackets on the overview, but I've got a thing for wanting to know what's going on around me. One of these days I'll see if I can start denying read access to other EVE graphical assets. I really wouldn't mind playing "Brackets Online" if it meant improving performance up to industry standards (EVE seriously has some awful client-side performance... seriously.)

Edited by: TriadSte on 06/05/2011 09:04:18 I have a coreI7 and I'll say that CPU-wise it will run maybe 10 eve clients with ease. Your problems start on the RAM with 4gb I think you'll run 4 clients maximum.
Can Eve be run ok by using side by side screens on the same monitor
Yes of course but depending on size of monitor, mostly i'd suggest overlapping is much easier. I personally run in a pretty much full screen windowed mode so I click between screen clients.
On your RAM do yourself a huge favour and upgrade to 6 [3x2gb] or 12 [3x4gb] DDR3 1600 or 1800 if you can afford. This is because it will allow the I7/RAM to run in a triple channel mode. Your 4gb is currently running on dual channel [if using 2x2gb dimms] and your missing a whole lot of speed there. If your running just 1 dimm [1x4gb stick] then single channel mode and if thats true.....wow just no no no no no.
The core I7 was designed for triple channel, to really feel what the I7 can do go and buy some triple channel kit right away.

Edited by: Jokerface666 on 06/05/2011 09:25:15 If possible: USe Multiple Hard disks for each EVE instance, Fill up your RAM slots with FAST RAM, do not use 2 x 2GB RAM for 4 RAM slots, Use either 4 x 2 GB or 4 x 1 GB RAM
Install EVE on one Hard disk Copy it to other hard disk, Start each EVE instance from another disk.
i.e. Disk1 C: D: Disk2 E: Disk3 F:
EVE Installs: D:\EVE I\ E:\EVE II\ F:\EVE III\
This will shorten your read write times on the hard disks. EDIT: Most of the Time the bottleneck on PCs are the Hard Disks.
Theres nothing more i can really think of atm you could do. w00t w00t wtfpwnage train |

So if you're in a tight spot, where lag is not an option, keep at least one client minimized. Also run them both in windowed mode for easier management.

Additional to the previous speakers...
* Windows 64 Bit makes better use of the pysical RAM * If you run 32 Bit applications in 64 Bit Windows, each application gets an virtual adress space of 4 GB. Typically uses 2 GB then (the other half is for system purposes). If you own enough pysical RAM in your 64 Bit Windows (12 GB for eg.) this can be remapped to physical RAM and boost up the performance. Read more: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa366778(v=VS.85).aspx http://blogs.technet.com/b/markrussinovich/archive/2008/11/17/3155406.aspx
* Configure your pagefile to a separate physical disk * To move the pagefile.sys away from the system drive is a noticeable performance boost. But it must be really another physical disk, not a partitionon. If money don't matters, use a SSD with 64 GB or 128 GB as separate physical disk. Or use a cheap, small (but fast -> 7200rpm) 80/120 GB SATA disk. Read more: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/307886 http://www.petri.co.il/pagefile_optimization.htm
* Kill explorer.exe task in Task Manager -> Processes * Start your needed applications, browser, etc. Then kill the explorer.exe task in Task Manager or with a command line tool. You will end up without start menue, without task bar, without desktop. But a noticable performance boost for the running applications will occur. Especially noticeable if you run multiple EVE sessions in Fixed Window mode for better ALT-TAB switching. Read more: http://www.computing.net/answers/windows-xp/stopping-explorerexe/137453.html To get back Task Bar and Start Menue, just press CTRL-ALT-DEL and open Task Manager. Then click File -> Run and type in 'explorer.exe' to get your desktop back.

Originally by: TriadSte ... The core I7 was designed for triple channel, to really feel what the I7 can do go and buy some triple channel kit right away.
The old I7's were triple channel.
He has a I7 2600, which is only dual channel
I'd still recommend he upgrade to 8GB though.
I have a 2500k I5 with 8GB and a 1GB GTX460 with dual monitors, 1x 24" LG high def monitor and the other an LG 32" LED HDTV which looks freaking amazing.
I can run 2 clients (1 on each monitor) in 1920x1080x32 fixed window, Evemon, EFT, Vent, media player and a few browser windows with no issues whatsoever. The main window (the client that has current focus) runs at around 180~ FPS and the second window will run at 60~ FPS. The only optimization I made was turning AA off on the secondary client(16xQ on main client). All other settings stayed on high.
My RAM is a little over 4GB used, my processor sits at about 40% used most of the time. Even in Jita i get no noticeable lag.

You don't need to buy anything, contrary to the typically dumb advice given by those above, but if you must, one of these might help.

Edited by: Barakkus on 06/05/2011 20:50:31 I run 2 clients each windowed on separate monitors, doesn't really do much to the performance of my machine at all. All you need is a nice beefy graphics card and lots of ram if you want to run more than 2. All this mess in this thread is a wee bit overboard. You don't need seperate installations either, just use LSE as described in this article. Just ignore the bit about evemon, and make sure each client (defined by the shortcuts you make) assigns the client to the correct monitor in the graphic settings.
You could use ISBoxer as well, it will run lots of clients and lines them up in a little bar at the bottom of the window so you can switch between clients easily in the main window. I use it for EQ2 to control a character on my laptop, but EVE is very light on resource usage, so I opt for just running 2 clients on separate monitors. ISBoxer will allow you to configure which client uses which core, how much ram to allow per client etc...it's a great multiboxing tool. - - [SERVICE] Corp Standings For POS anchoring
