Hi,
I plan to setup a POS and do some PI in a class 1-3 but so far all ( about 10 ) WH I found the last 2 days were occupied and had already 1-2 POS in them.
What is your expirience ? Do you find silent low end WHs regular or are they also all populated ?

I'd suggest choosing the class and moving your alts into a WH that has a static to said class. If I were doing PI in a WH again, I would choose a C1 with NS static. It does require a fair degree of logistical planning however.

There are lots of unoccupied wormholes.
There are many abandoned wormholes.
The more desirable a wormhole is, the more likely it is occupied. For example, expect all wormholes with a hisec static to be occupied.

Find a static for the class of WH you desire, and scan regularly for an unoccupied WH. Also look on the sell forums - a C1 with a losec static isn't that expensive.

Stupid Question maybe, but are the POS active? Do they have Force Fields on scan?
The C3 I am currently running had 2 POS's on scan, but both were inactive and abandoned due to incapacitated modules.
I agree those with High Sec Statics are way more occupied then Low Sec and Null Statics.
The other issue is finding a decent mix for PI. Unless you are flexible in what you hope to make, finding a good mix of planets also lowers the chance of finding a decent system.
If you can afford to have a pilot just floating around in W-Space, I agree the best thing to do is find a system with a Static to the class of system you are looking for. Then scan out the static everyday and see what you can find. May take awhile to find what you are looking for, but there are still unoccupied W-Space systems.

Edited by: Zircalla on 09/05/2011 13:37:45 Almost all w-space systems with a static to hi sec are occupied and, except for brief periods of time, contain active towers.
There are probably a few low-level w-space systems w/o hi-sec statics that are available, but they are pretty rare. Some friends found a C1 with a low-sec static maybe two months ago, not sure.
Non-empire static systems are out there, but as stated above you kind of have to camp in a system that has a static to the level you want, and that in of itself can be a problem.
We are in a c4 with a c2 static, so we see lots and lots of C2s. Yesterday we had access to an unoccupied C2 with a null and C5 static. Not sure if you are looking for something like that - market access for selling PI will be sporadic (although there were 12 planets, and a nice mix at that).
Anyway, most of the C2s that are 'available' (either no tower or dead towers) only have statics to either null or higher level w-space systems; OTOH, if you are patient and conscientious, C2s have randoms to hi sec at pretty regular intervals (every 7-10 days, I would guess).

I dont mind if its low sec tbh, 0.0 would be another story as logistics getting a real pain in the bum.
IŠll keep on searching

Edited by: Zircalla on 09/05/2011 15:58:30 If you are looking for c1-c3 with an empire static of any sort, be prepared for a long hunt. There are sometimes sales of w-space systems in the market forum. We have sold several over the past year, but not any recently. I highly recommend buying one if you can use a broker or trust the seller. In any case:
- identify what level of w-system you can live with (or can't live with). C1s are fundamentally different (due to mass restrictions) than any other w-space system, but also very popular for that reason. C3s combats rarely contain NPCs with points (but they can, check the site name before attempting to run), so they are relatively easy. For this reason, C3 and below are very popular as well; however, the Ladar and Grav sites in C4s are very similar to C3s, so you might consider a C4 as well. There are probably more C4s available than all the c1s - c3s together. - identify what exits you can live with (or can't live with). We started in a c2 with c1 and hi sec static over a year ago, and left because we were AVOIDING hi sec statics. Be aware that (imho) a C2 static is better than a low-sec static - the C2 will often have a hi sec (a B274 WH) and that makes logistics pretty simple compared to a low-sec. We just make a convoy of goods out when there is a good C2-> hisec route and have a freighter meet us at the exit system carrying POS ice products for the return trip(s) back in. - Stage your beachhead. Have industrials with cloaks in high slots all setup and ready to go, parked at some convenient location, maybe even with jump clones for the pilots there. When an opportunity arrives, you do not want to be running all over empire trying to find the ships/mods/arrays/fuel that you need. Make sure everyone that is going in has scanning ability (or that you have at least one, if not two, alts that can scan). You need to be able to get back to you system in case you are podded. If they are alts to your main account, get them in system before you set up your tower.
Good luck!

Don't underestimate the Sell Orders forum. Spending 2 weeks searching for a home is over 1/2 a billion in missed isk. (unless the sites are really piling up in the system)
One of my alts bought my location for 100mil. I made that money back in a few hours after getting my pos setup as there were a couple dozen sites available. Tracking only ship loot and salvage I'm averaging 20mil per site and about 2.4 new sites per day.

LOL. 10 in a few days? I've done 10 a day for 4 days straight. It's a numbers game. If you enter over a 100, you'll find that 5-10% of them are empty. Maybe more, maybe less. But that's my guestimate based on my own experience -----------------

Edited by: Cipher Jones on 10/05/2011 19:20:39 I've thrown away 2 WH's and found a 3rd unpopulated one in the past 30 days. It had 2 POS's that were dead.
Yes Virginia, there is a wormhole Santa.
Ps. Dont forget to add "Force Field" to your D scan. The WH might not be as active as it looks. . Adapt and overcome or become a monkey on an evolution poster.
