Actually a steady decline might suffice for that and be a more realistic wish. At least then the developers would have to seriously consider what do they need to do differently and better, so that their subscriber numbers don't follow that same downward trend.
A quick death of the old republic MMO might also achieve the same thing, since it seems to be the big budget WoW clone(+story). After all if it fails to replicate the success of WoW to a significant extent(steady full price sub count at over a million), other devs/publishers have little chance of ever succeeding by following that same road.
On the other hand if TOR succeeds and WoW stays in good shape, we can look forward to another decade of WoW clones with a gimmick, that will totally make it a new and exciting experience instead of just more of the same.

Not a big deal really... I mean people in WoW so ****ing arrogant it's unreal. Also other games came out and people left to try them out. Also Cata I think was the big reason but some of though players love easy games. Now they made dungeons little harder people crying...

Ugh, please no. I highly doubt Eve-O can handle 50k+ additional players playing in the game while 4k vs 4k fleet battle is happening, oh my days.
On the serious note, meh, personally for me, its "who the hell cares". WoW can afford to lose half of the total and still be fine.
WoW can pretty much be #1 MMO game with most subscribers for years to come in the MMO industry with said 50% sub losses, while eve gains 1-2m subs and still be #1 single sharded server. ----------------------------------- Peace through power! |

Eh ... nothing lasts forever but I'd say it's got a long way to go. Look at Planetside still limping along ... that is until last week ...
EVE isn't as different as a lot of it's players would like to think ... but ... one difference between EVE and other games - is that EVE has continued to grow for 8 years. Most of them start of like Planetside (which came out the same time as EVE), with a big bang, reach a peak and then begin the long slow slide to oblivion (not the game) ...

People can only handle wow for so long, or any game for that matter. And after all wow offers no real challenges. EVE is better that way and is likly to last a fair bit longer. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I am happy with the success of WoW. Let the newbs, kids , ******s play WoW / CoD and leave us to EVE, RPGs...
That is why I really fear for World of Darkness : there will be tons of twilight fans, meaning tons of carebears and whines when WoD takes place in the Vampire : The Masquerade universe which is as violent and dark as New Eden. i think a big part of why wow continues to do as good as it does is the fact lots of blokes can get their mrs to play it also as its pretty for them to look at......if only eve didnt look like lots of little dots on the screen and boxes with ****e in when looked at over your shoulder i wouldnt have had to spend 3 years in wow

Because it means that Blizzard's business model might be showing cracks (failing,) which means it might be a time for a paradigm shift in the general MMO market. Or not.
From the article, Blizzard takes the time to put a lot of polish on what they do. However, the implication is that polish takes time and if people are burning through content faster than Blizzard can make it, then that means polished content might not make good business sense anymore...
CCP is already on record with "the data does not seem to support that polished quality sells better than new features" (Search on "data does not" since there are no page numbers.)
The real question is *why* did Blizzard lose 600k subscribers? Was it because the hard-core players ran out of content too quickly? Were the more casual players turned off by the increased difficulty in dungeons? Were individuals or small groups turned off by the long dungeon finder queue times? Are tanks and healers burned out on being pigeon holed? Is it just because the economy sucks? Did Rift take those 600k subscribers? Will those 600k be back? Did 600k Korean gamers kill themselves by playing WoW non-stop for days without sleeping?

Sure they still have a lot of subscribers but there will be a lot of internal soul searching over the loss of over $8,000,000 USD income per month, those kinds of figures make the bean counters very nervous.

Could a majority of this be attributed to numerous individuals with multiple accounts unseubbing after the horrendous winter as they are geting ready for the Spring ans Summer?
I doubt it, but since no one mentioned it I thought I would.
Plus what was the spike of resubs or new subs after Cataclysm hit the shelfs?

This little subquake was just the entire population of Druid players suddenly waking up and realising that, no, Blizzard will never stop nerfing them. _____________________________________ Haruhiist since December 2008

WoW has instanced small group pvp, which is skill based, rather than being a giant blobfest. Basically, every 5v5 pvp matchup is something like the alliance tournament, but perhaps with more twitch.
Before you say something like "durr wow pvp is easy" .... you should have made an "easy" 75k and then you could say the pvp is easy.
