Yesterday I was mining, using my secure containers. I went afk for a while and when I came back some kid had canflipped one of my secure containers.
What happened?
Of course there is the possibility I didnt set a password on my container. Then again...maybe it is possible for others to gain access to my secure containers when I have opened the secure container to transfer the stuff I mined? Any one knows if this is possible?

Most likely you forgot to set password. I have newer hear that GSC with properly set password would have been stolen, when anchored in space.
maybe your thief felt lucky and lets try if hes forgot to password one...

Have you anchored the GSC probably?
Another explanation could be, that he shot it and replaced it, but I don't know whether or not you receive a notification...

Make sure to anchor the container first then set a password, and not the opposite order!

I changed the password on the container now. Whatever happened (quite sure now I did something wrong anchoring or/and making a password) it should be alright now.
Thanks for your help, capsuleers!

A GSC has 500,000 structure. That is 5 times the amount as a freighter. It would take a lot of ships to blow one up.

Yeah, you have to anchor it. It doesn't matter if you set a password or not. If it's not anchored, you can still open it. So anchor it, then set the password and you will be fine.
If you are in a 1.0 or .9 system, you can't anchor the can so it's really pointless to use them over a jetcan.

You either didn't anchor it, didn't set a password, or were in a .8 or above system. I love it when people do that, so fun to scoop the cargo container into my hauler's hold without getting aggro. ****es off miners like no other.

Did you launch it for self? This seems to me the best method to prevent unwanted access to your goods. If you have a hauler alt, you can use the secure cans (or even jet cans if you are very quick) as a transfer "middle ground".
If you forgot to anchor the GSC (which is easy to do if you are not patient), it would despawn after two hours. Ensure it is anchored every time by waiting the 60 seconds, then check it. You check it by:
-Open the GSC menu; look for "Unanchor"
If you see "Anchor", then Anchor it and wait 60 seconds and check it again. Warping away before 60 seconds makes the anchoring mechanic fail and you will lose your GSC you thought was anchored.

No resists and a signature radius of 3000? About 10 minutes give or take with a 800 dps ship. But yeah ... more a waste of time :-)
