I thought I understood how to setup a legal, proper fleet in regards to passing bonuses. Seems I do not...
So, can someone here explain the manner in which bonuses are passed down from fleet, wing, and squad slots? To be specific, I have a character with (almost) perfect leadership skills. The only skill not at 5 is fleet command (which is at 4). Everything else is 5 - so all warfare specs are 5, wing 5, etc.
I'm being intentionally vague, as I'd like to see the responses from folks who are perhaps more knowledgable on this subject. I have encountered a situation that I can't explain in regards to where my boosting alt is placed, and how the boosts/bonuses are passed down (and who gets them).
Any help/clarification is greatly appreciated. |

I personally prefer putting the fleet window into hierarchical view instead of the default flat view.
Valid fleets have a green checkmark G£ô in the top left corner of the fleet window for everyone in the fleet. A red X means the fleet is invalid and bonuses are not being applied.
The smallest valid fleet is two people (must both be in space and in the same system):
* Squad Commander (SC) * Squad Member
If you have a Wing Commander (WC) you must have at least one squad commander. If you have a Fleet Commander (FC) you must have at least one Wing Commander. There must be at least one member per squad other than the SC, at least one squad per WC, at least one wing under a FC. WC and FC are otherwise optional.
The people in command positions (SC / WC / FC) MUST have the skills to command the people under them, in order for the fleet to be valid and boosts to be applied.
The squad booster by default is the SC, but it doesn't have to be. Anyone in the squad can be designated the squad booster: right-click on the SC and select "Revoke Booster", then right-click on the new booster and select "Set Squad Booster". Similarly wing and fleet boosters can be changed.
Boosters DO NOT need command skills unless they are in a command position. It is very rare though for a booster not to also have command skills though.
I often mine with my mining booster as a squad member. It allows me to be the SC and warp us both around, but still receive the boosts from him. |

If you take up the FC, WC or SC positions without having the relevant skill, you will 'block' any skills passed on from a superior commander. To explain further:
If you have the Leadership skill (and are SC of a squad that is a size you can pass bonuses on to) then you will pass bonuses from the squad booster and bonuses from the wing commander onto your squad members.
If you are an unskilled SC, then your squad members will not receive any bonuses whatsoever.
If you have the WC skill (and are WC of a wing with as many squads as you can pass bonuses on to) then you will pass bonuses from the wing booster and bonuses from the fleet commander onto your squad commanders.
If you are an unskilled WC, then you will not pass on the bonus from the wing or the fleet booster, however your SCs, if they are skilled themselves, can still pass on their own bonuses.
If you have the FC skill (and are FC of a fleet with as many wings as you can pass bonuses on to) then you pass bonuses from the fleet booster to all wing commanders.
If you are an unskilled FC, then nobody in the fleet receives bonuses from the fleet booster, however the WCs and SCs may still pass on their own bonuses.
Note: Bonuses only affect the players at the level at which they are generated or lower. FCs get no benefit from wing or squad boosters, for example. In addition, there is no partial passing-on of bonuses, e.g. if you have 7 pilots in your squad, you need at least Leadership 4 to pass on ANY bonuses - if you have Leadership 3, then NONE of your squad will receive bonuses.
The bonuses themselves are generated by the Squad/Wing/Fleet Booster, a position in the fleet that by default is assigned to each Squad/Wing/Fleet commander. However the commanders may assign their booster position to any other member below them in the fleet structure. |

^^ Thanks for the reply, Amaranthia.
What you posted is exactly what I thought. Would boosting from warfare links work in the same, "roll down the hierarchy" manner?

Ah, I do not have personal experience with warfare links myself, but the way I understand it, yes, for their bonuses to be applied, the "chain of command" must be intact the same way as for those leadership skills. |

A lot of good information here thanks. I honestly did not know you needed 4 members in a fleet to get the three ganglinks working. |

I will add a question here considering its the same topic.
Lets say you have two people with boosters.
One boosts a fleet, the other a wing.
What was explained to me is boosts do not stack, but you do get the best of what is avaliable.
i.e.
The fleet booster is maxed out in information warfare but not seige, the wing booster is maxed out in seige but not info. So, pilots below both of these boosters would be getting info boosts from the fleet booster and the seige from the wing booster? You basicly get the best of what is available?
Thanks. |

Yes.
Of course the siege boost from the Wing Commander only applies to his squads only (the guys in his wing). The other wings would not get the boost of this certain Wing Commander, only the lesser boost from the FC (as they are below another Wing Commander). |

I'm not sure if this is what you mean - but you only need 2 members in a fleet to get ganglinks working, and with proper fittings, the booster can be running up to six or seven different ganglinks. |

I presume they mean at maxed as a minimum of 4 of those 7 links will be unbonused from the ship.
By contrast if you have a loki at FC, legion at WC, tengu at SC then the maxed bonuses will go to the lucky squad member.
In answer to the op - theres a long standing problem with WC's not receiving their own bonuses. Not sure if its been fixed as sometimes you do ... sometimes you don't receive them.
