Edited by: Aaron on 18/05/2011 13:56:13 "PVP fight Club is a place where you can have evenly matched fights to prove once and for all who is the best"
I've had a few ideas on how to get such an idea off the ground and if theres anyone out there who can help the above statement become a reality it will be appreciated.
There are lots of good fleet commanders out there and there are some logical fleets where you can really see someone has taken time to plan it and execute it with perfection.
I think us eve players have got to grow up a bit and exersize a bit of self control which will help make pvp fight club become a reality. I think this is a good idea as it will allow for the eve community to plan and execute pvp matches that will compliment the official eve tournament.
I recently responded on a thread where the op felt pvp was dead, i dissagree, in lots of situations pvp is a battle of the minds and for the fleet commanders that cover every possible possibility they will get respect and recognition. (or hatred for that matter)
I can already hear some of the negatives, and all I can say is this; its the eve players that are in full control, we will not need anything to be changed, or a game mechanic to be created so that this venture can be created, It will be in full control of us the eve community.
We've got to start treating certain aspects of pvp like drag racing or boxing and respect it, or is eve online just full of people who just spoil things and never want to see a good idea flourish.
I for one can't wait, I want to challenge the likes of HAX Gang, goonswarm, pandemic legion, NC, to an organsised fight where either fleet commander can only rely upon his/her skills, no supercarrier hotdrop, no 50 man gank squad waiting 2 jumps away, no black ops fleet on standby, just a simple 10 vs 10, or 15 vs 15, whatever, as long as there are rules and we all adhere to them.
Ok, so to start we will need the services of a popular eve player that everyone loves and respects..... we could ask Hippoking to come and be an official, We will need a web site and lots of staff to do all the hampster work and keep the engine going.
Is this possible? Can we organise our own epic pvp?

Aaron, I've wanted to form a eve arena system for a long time, say everyone ponies up 10 m isk or similar and winner take all. Fights would be arranged wherever convenient, etc. There would need to be a large security force and honestly it should happen in low sec.
If you get interest, I'd be up to helping organize.

Edited by: Furb Killer on 18/05/2011 14:00:16 And how many supercaps do you think you can get for that security force? Because the result will be in low sec simply that it will be hotdropped by others.
Dont get me wrong, it would be nice to have, but also unrealistic sadly.

Furb, I agree it would be a challenge, but if we kept it to cruiser hulls and under, we'd have mobility. The challenge of avoiding unwanted pvp to engage in pvp will make it a blast!

The human factor is a tough one to get around there are most likley people who would spoil it I would only ask that these said people come and take part instead, put your core pvp skill out there and challenge someone to a fight with honour.
Also apollo some of the guys ive mentioned won't come to mess about in frigates they'll be comming in fully equipped HACs, command ships, battlecruisers.

When you say things like "challenge someone to a fight with honour" I have to wonder about your naivety.
This is Eve matey and you WILL get hotdropped if there's anything juicy to pop. If not then the locals (and not so locals) will be happy to while away their time on you. End result will be the same.

In no way would I try to discourage you, The idea is a good one, and I wish you success, however...
This has been tried before in various guises, I even tried once myself, but I lack discipline so it flopped soon as I got started.
The problem you will come up against is the players that will grief any and all of your events. Ofc this is EVE so they should be able to disrupt it if they want to, I am not avocating anything else!
The post earlier that quoted the famous line from the movie "first rule of fight club..." is the best way to go. Obv you have to talk about it at first to build support but the RoE and where when etc... should be kept secret.
...anyway, best of luck to you, I will keep my eyes peeled and may come join in if you get something up and running. Add me ingame to any newsletters or stuff you get sorted out. -Landon |

Actually this is not necessarily true. Over the course of several hundred solo fights (in Jita, no less), I have only had one player 'grief' me (they brought in ECM when it was categorically disallowed, as in RvB).

How many do you reckon you'd have had if it was in low-sec as suggested above?

Edited by: Dreldor on 18/05/2011 16:15:46 Aaron, do you think this might work in a class 1 or 2 wormhole system with a static high-sec or low-sec entrance?
The wormhole would limit the ship sizes and prevent hot-drops. Also, you could give out the location of the entrance to members of the 'club' to make it kind of private. You could always move to another wormhole system if people set up cloaky ships to annoy your guys.

Hey guys...
I've put some thought into this and I want to setup a sellers market some where in null sec. Let me know if you think this is a good idea and I'll setup a channel so we can discuss this further. Hopefully one day we'll be able to make a 50 man gang and gank some people but today I just need you all to buy my stuff!
Also, I want to name it something like zero_hub.

Speaking on behalf of low-sec residents - structured PvP has been tried, over and over again, and as many have pointed out - given the mechanics of EVE, its just too cumbersome to organize, enjoy and enforce (over a large scale).
Lots of pirate corps will often hold Assault ship, Cruiser 1v1 tournaments, and since theyre occasional and small, they are usually well managed and fun.
Structured PvP in EVE can only happen with the developers intervention.
What the vast majority of PvP-desiring pilots ive spoken with - pirates and others - want, is an Alliance Tournament like functionality.
Think 'World of Warcraft' battlegrounds PvP or even WoW Arenas. You warp into an area with the enemy in equal numbers - using some sort of pre-determined 'points' system to ensure a mix of ships arrive and fights are fair.
You will still lose your ship when you die, but no podding and at the end of the fight, all winning pilots get ISK/Arena-Points etc.
CCP already has the Alliance tournament functionality worked out - to ensure the area of the fight is defined, people start at the same time, with similar 'priced' fleets.
Lord knows, we wouldve prefered CCP worked on this, rather than Incarna.
But hey ... its CCP, they clearly know best. Iv retired at least 3 paying accounts, and in each, quoted reason for quitting as 'lack of organized pvp, like WoW BGs/Arena' ...
Do your part, if you want to change EVE, vote with your wallet.

Well, there's your problem, right there.
If you make a rule, there will literally be hundreds to line up to break them. If you bring 'enforcers', there will be a thousand to break them as well.
As others have said, this has been tried and tried, time and again. The idea isn't special, you aren't special, and you have brought nothing new to the old idea.

The first rule of PVP Fight Club isà you don't talk about PVP Fight Club!
It would need to truly be a club. i.e. a corp that folks join and can be kicked if they undermine the whole thing and can't be trusted not to talk about Fight Club!

Run it in the nearest clear wormhole you find. You can camp the entrance without risk if it's from highsec, and anyone trying to get in either gets killed or jumps back and gets nowhere. Doesn't require any cap ships or supers to secure. Even a c1 would be fine if you're not using BS. Inside no one takes a standing hit or anything like that. You can even use bubbles. Just needs to be connected to space that all contestants can travel to (even if they need their ship bringing/refitting seperately. AFAIK this has been done before and was successful. |

In my original post I said that nothing needs to be changed to support some sort of fight club. I think im wrong, CCP may need to step in here and design some sort of colleseum or Battle Arena.
If CCP designed a Battle Arena, 2 fleet commanders could access it and configure the fight. they could specify stuff like 10vs10, logistics ships limit, ship limitations, and lots of other related options
The particulars of the fight are selected and it will go back and forth both fleet commanders till they are happy and digitally sign the terms of engagement. The fight is then advertised to possible spectators and on jump gate billboards and perhaps a system could be created to place a wager on the fight.
Fight stats could be stored and it could be presented like a football league.
I think most will agree this is the only way to bring back epic pvp with no suprises, fleet commanders could make quite a name for themselves and it could even be used as a recruitment tool where aliances could offer large amounts of isk to good fleet commanders to join them.
Yeah I think we gotta bring fair and controlled fights into the game. this will make it a battle of minds and create some good competition.
Daneel, the problems running it in WH space are that the WH themselves are difficult to predict, say if a 15vs15 is organised and only 5 from one side and 15 from the other side were able to get through before the WH collapsed, it would be annoying and a waste of good time. the fact is we need a logical solid system for doing it and CCP are the only guys that can provide it.
