CCP Should really reply to this, I like the elf-mmo comparison, and believe this change steers the game in the wrong direcion. Some feedback would be nice.

Your OP lacked content and therefore I addressed later posts.

That doesnt make sense - you continue to look foolish.
None of your solutions deal with the problem in the OP.

Your thinking goes back to a time before memory when there was such a thing as a right to privacy, while this is the corporate world of a dark far future.
Do you know every implant that a pod pilot has in their head, every ship that is in there hanger, or every clone that they have installed?
I think my point has been made. <Snip> Slade
Really? What exactly was the point you were making?
You have been lo-jacked, I can bribe an employee of any of a number of Megacorps to tell me exactly where you are at any given time, even if you've never had anything to do with them.
Every credit transaction you make is recorded, you can see some of the records by hitting the load button in your wallet's journal tab and the QENs often list more general data from everyone.
Every transmission through your personal Fluid Router is recorded, if nowhere else than the chatlogs folder on your own machine.

If anyone remembers SWG and what happened there this feels similar but less drastic.
At a stroke SWG had pretty much all its professions removed and totally made irrelevant all the previous gameplay, in effect it was a fresh start. The reason given was that it was impossible to balance all the professions, the truth more like was that the servers couldn't cope. - Most of the SWG population quit.
Now it does look as if CCP have learned from this and have applied some dumbing down of their own (probably to reduce server load). The really big difference is that CCP has dumbed down where the effect is least noticed. I am sorry for the guys who have lost an important part of their game like the OP, but tbh IF it helps the server perform better then its ok by me. Globally I really hate the idea of EVE being dumbed down, and it could be this is the first step in a slippery slope, and if that is the case it would be a huge shame.

I sorta agree with this because I LOATHED the lag associated with the faction standings especially when it liked to default to open or you accidentally clicked it.
However they could have fixed the lag without going the route they did. The issue was bad UI design and poor caching (intra-NPC stuff pretty much never changed, it could have been in the client and changed with patches if need be).
I have come back in the last few weeks after about a year away and most of the recent "improvements" reek of over-worked devs* putting in bad quick fixes. Honestly compared to the kind of work I used to see on EvE this is feeling like a SOE game on life support (RIP Planetside).
* Because everyone else is working on Space Barbies, or other WOD stuff.

The dev's aren't replying in their feedback thread. They aren't going to reply to this one for a simple reason.
THEY SCREWED UP! Plain, simple to the point.

Meh, removal of individual agent standings only was all that was needed IMO. The vast majority of the standings list display lag is due to the mahoosive number of random agents that people spoke to that one time 5 years back. Faction and Corp standings makes up a tiny proportion of that number and thus that lag. Losing this valuable detail has huge repercussions for everything from hunting someone down to seeing if that new recruit is going to cost your corp it's jump clones.

Devs... just admit "we FUBAR'ed it."
The people who pay and play your game deserve better than silence.
It's a pretty big deal to remove NPC to NPC standings. It's static information... it's not like it even adds to lag..
Ammar are ALWAYS -8.0 with blah blah blah
Thukket Tribe... they like the Matar. How do new players gauge all this Xfaction standings?
You've gutted a little bit more immersion from the game with this change.
A new player would have NO IDEA what factions opinions of other factions are... and worse than that:
They won't even KNOW that certain factions even exist, because they can't click on their races faction and then click on the info button of all the nasty factions and pirate factions their race hates...
...to just immerse themselves in the story a little bit more.
Come on Devs. Give as something... |

I have to agree, the change is bunk.
Once upon a time, there were minmatar rpers that would target anyone that came into their space that had good standings with the amarr empire... suppose that sort of thing just won't be possible now.
But, you're right. A bitter ex-slave wouldn't care to know whether or not he was doing business with someone that supported an empire that was once his enslaver.
yea, silly of me to think that.

Could be the dev responsible just didn't think it through.
But the paranoid in me thinks that they hid them so you won't be able to notice when someone pays AURum to get a standings boost with mommy's credit card.

forget all the "whys" .. subject to debate.
What I can state is my feeling about them and I enjoyed the old way. It added an element of texture to the game and let me know more about fellow players which to me added to the mmo experience vs a campaign vs game experience.
None of those type of things stand on their own as important but collectively every little nuance of interest and connection with player histories adds up.

I swore I saw in the patch notes they were re-implementing the standings view or something.
Either way, it's pretty poor foresight to have even the FACTION's faction standings be hidden from players, especially for mission runners who want to know who likes who.
Put this back in.

Edited by: Brainless Bimbo on 30/06/2011 18:45:01 Yeah, i was upset with the removal, diminishes game play greatly, i originally put it down to CCP attempting to save Db hits in a need for speed type of way, but now see it may have other, deeper implications like having it available to WiS Corp Offices at a Aurum price so you can screen ppl.
CCP, fearlessly running away from everything that was eve

If the reason for the removal was purely loading times and thus performance then why was the absolute removal seen as the best solution? Why were options like loading the relationships data as default and adding a button below that saying "load all" which would make the database calls for the remainder on demand not implemented?

Free? You mean there's a way to get it at a price? I didn't see that last time I looked at someone's standings.
The time it took for the standings to load could have been addressed in more intelligent ways. But, CCP nixed the whole concept. The above poster is correct, it has to be because of standing boosts due to aurum.
